Over the next few days I will upload photos from Pirongia Forest Park. Come join me and discover all the interesting things!

The green slopes of Mt Pirongia can be found 25km south of Hamilton. With a range of easy to more challenging options, the Pirongia walks provide a rejuvenating experience amongst lush native forest and clear mountain streams.

The Mangakara Nature Walk

(We started off with this easy track, but will definitely go back to discover the other more challenging options!)

The Mangakara Nature Walk on Mt Pirongia is an enjoyable one hour circuit through native forest.

The easy track meanders through ancient forest past large rimu, kahikatea, tawa, pukatea and kohekohe trees and crosses over the Mangakara stream before looping back around.

Educational signs describe point of interest and the mountains history along the way with something new to discover at each station.

Info (E/D):

Sculptures in battle with the sea? Can you comb the wind? Or grasp the sea? Three steel monuments attempt the impossible again and again. Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002) built his "Wind Combs" into the rocky coast of San Sebastián. They stretch down from craggy cliffs towards the roaring, foaming, swirling waves.

Chillida, one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century, was a passionately avowed Basque who was born and also died in San Sebastián. With the "Wind Combs", three sculptures made of rusty steel, each weighing twelve tonnes, he created a moving monument to his home town, the sea and not least to himself.

Chillida admired the physical strength and precision craftsmanship of the blacksmiths, which also influenced his art. Each of these huge sculptures, created in 1977, looks as if titans had forged them with tremendous forces, splitting, twisting and bending the metal. In doing so, he puts the "Wind Combs" to the ultimate test, confronts the sculptures with the raw forces of nature, opposes the chaos of waves and spray with the form of his steel sculptures. The "Wind Combs" stage the coast and the sea.

Hey, friends! A happy day for me today: that trick with my 'visual diet' succeeded, i enforced my processing work and finally finished preparing May 2016 pics which means i can stop that endless April show. It took more than 8 months to share more than 800 pics... i was intended to stop after about 600 pics but the show was prolonged due the reasons i described in this post <-

So, what's next?

1. The May 2016 was the same productive as April, which means i got to upload a tonn of prepared pics (i expect it gonna be about 2000 of them) and range them step by step to reduce it for about 600 pic which i will be sharing in the next 6 months or so.

2. Then i'll start sorting the raw pics from June 2016, then will process the selected ones. Same with Jule and August. A lot of work for sure: the summer months altogether is something like 1,5 of April or May by the number of pics. The good news is each next month after May my productivity reduced, so from now the time is on my side, and each next mounth-show will be shorter than the preceding.

3. When all three summer months of 2016 will be sorted and processed, i'll return to viewing my flickr fellows streams, maybe to my groups too (not so sure about them right now). Hopefully in the early 2022. Regarding my own pics - i plan to change my approach of working with my archive to more chaotic and less meticulous one starting from Autumn 2016.

Now I take one (or two) day off and then back with May's pics.

Info from the NT website.

“New Worke“ began life as a hunting lodge in the mid 1500s. It was built by the courtier, Sir Nicholas Poyntz, using medieval stones from a nearby dissolved abbey. This was never his family home but he used it as an impressive place for lavish entertaining.

Over the next 400 years, the house was expanded and remodelled a number of times. A succession of families made their home in what is now Newark Park. The most significant building phase was undertaken in the 1790s by the Reverend Lewis Clutterbuck using the architect, James Wyatt.

The Clutterbuck family continued to own Newark Park – although for 50 years it was leased to the King Family. Three generations later, Catherine Annie Power-Clutterbuck left the estate to the National Trust in 1949.

By 1970, the estate was in need of some restoration. An American architect, Bob Parsons, leased it from the National Trust and spent almost 30 years taming the grounds and returning the house to a home. Once again, it became a place known for its hospitality.

The estate has some lovely walks through the woodlands, well worth a visit. As yet we have not been inside the house, keeping that for a rainy day!

The Externsteine, are a unique cultural monument that has fascinated people since time immemorial. A medieval, sacred site in the midst of bizarre Sandstone cliffs, this is how visitors experience the Externsteine in the heart of the Lipperland.

The characteristic Rock formation rises up to 40 meters into the air. Both the viewing platform with the staircase from the 19th century, as well as the medieval grotto bear witness to the eventful history.

Above all, however, the relief of the Descent from the Cross, which was carved into the rocks by medieval stonemasons, is of worldwide importance.

The oldest nature reserve in Lippe around the Rock group invites you to immerse yourself in early history with its surrounding forests.

The Externsteine are part of the middle mountain range of the Teutoburg Forest, which is mainly composed of sandstones from the Lower Cretaceous period.

In the course of mountain building about 70 million years ago, the originally flat sandstone was pressed vertically in the area of the mountain range.

This monumental group of rocks, one of the most remarkable natural and cultural monuments in Central Europe, still raises many questions today.

A picturesque tall white-harled house on the north side of the junction between Back Causeway and The Cross in Culross (W FIfe), The Study dates from c.1610. This is said to be where Bishop Leighton of Dunblane (1611-84), who lived nearby in Bishop Leighton's House, composed his sermons. Built as a merchant's house, next to Culross Palace one of the finest in Culross, the building was acquired by the National Trust for Scotland in the 1930s. It was renovated by Ian G. Lindsay and Partners in 1959, winning a Civic Trust Award in 1962. The Study is now A-listed and is open to the public for guided tours.

The building is L-plan and comprises a three-storey main block, with a tower facing the street which rises higher. This contains a turnpike stair, with the upper stage corbelled out and containing the actual study. The orange pantiled roofs feature crow-stepped gables and catslide dormers. The windows to the front feature lattice leadwork and wooden shutters below, allowing the windows to open. Inside there are original fireplaces and timber panelling, while the beamed ceiling of the first-floor room is a reconstruction of the 1960s, brightly painted with fruit and flowers in homage to its 17th century forerunner.
