Sydney has a new hotel, the first new build luxury hotel in Sydney's CBD since the Westin Hotel opened in 1999 at No 1 Martin Place, and the first since the 2000 Olympics.
The $500 million Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour opened its doors on Tuesday Oct 3rd 2017 for a charity fundraiser but was not opened officially until a few days later, on the 6th October by NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Adam Marshall.
The 590 room 35 level Sofitel Hotel is conveniently located opposite the International Convention Centre and is right in the centre of Darling Harbour with easy access to the city and by ferry to Circular Quay.
The hotel is owned by part-time Sydney cosmetic surgeon and Australia's biggest private hotel owner, Dr Jerry Schwartz with Sofitel Darling Harbour his biggest undertaking to date.
With its infinity pool overlooking Darling Harbour and commanding views over the city, Darling Harbour and west over the Anzac Bridge, the hotel is sure to prove popular with Australian and international visitors to Sydney.
Just had a Getty invite for quite a few of the Infinity Pool shots, not sure yet if they need a property release though. If they're considered suitably 'generic' enough then maybe they'll help pay for next years holiday. First though I may just check that the hotel themselves aren't interested in licensing them in return for a weeks all-inclusive next year......
Not sure either will be interested in my family snaps though, nor the general flickr populace, so I won't be posting too many shots like this though even if to me they're priceless......

Amankila was my first ever encounter and inaugural stay with an Amanresort. I have been an urban dweller who loves the hustle bustle and concrete jungle of a metropolis, so it took me quite awhile to finally stay at a secluded resort. I should have come earlier, because both the hotel and the Amankila experience were truly unforgettable. Not even the 3 hours journey to the hotel from the airport deterred me from coming nor having second thought.
Being my inaugural Aman stay, it is only natural that it has a lasting impression. The cliffside ocean view is spectacular; the architecture is breathtaking; the three-tier infinity pool is truly out of this world; the service is impeccable and the charming lady GM is so hospitable and friendly, you would mistaken her for a supermodel who is staying at the resort!. What not to love about Amankila?
What I miss most is the memory left behind. The breakfast on the hill was a great experience. In fact, I kept thinking about it and the Nasi Goreng breakfast at Amanjiwo the whole week already.. And I haven't even mentioned the breathtaking Kilasari Suite yet!. Stunning Balinese architecture with its own infinity pool from the top of the resort. The view is so spectacular.. I still could not forget the special Rijstafel dinner by the Suite's pool amidst the serene lights from the floating candles.. It's like living on a scene of a very beautiful dream..
Both Amankila and Amanjiwo in Indonesia are two of the most popular Amanresorts in the world with Amanjiwo being the founder's personal favourite!. I can easily see why..

I took a number of sunrise photos of the Lake Argyle Infinity Pool at sunrise, I would have liked a late afternoon shot with the ranges in the background nicely lit up but not much chance of that happening as the pool is typically being used and a big camera and tripod at the pool would look a bit suss as everyone is in their bathers.

Im not getting out much at the moment, so another re-edit im afraid, the last for a while though, I promise! This was view from my hotel room (although this is obviously ground level) at the resort I stayed at during my time in Borneo, I could have quite happily woken up to this view for the rest of my life, it truly was heaven on earth ♥

I have to postpone the queue to upload some of the hotel reviews from my recent trips to Hong Kong and Taiwan, including a recent visit to one of my favourite hotels, The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place during this major holiday period; all because I could not wait to show off this spectacular resort that impresses me so much architecturally.
The Capella in Singapore is Asia's newest 6 star resort. It is the group's first debut in Asia, and also its flagship property. This is one of the hotels that I have been so eagerly-awaited to stay.
Initially, it was the Mandarin Oriental, Beijing that was supposed to be this year's most anticipated stay. Unfortunately, due to the major fire incident during the Chinese New Year, the hotel has been closed until further notice. Therefore, several hotels was handpicked for the occassion, including The Peninsula Hong Kong, which turned out to be quite disappointing and highly overrated.
The Capella, on the other hand, intrigues me alot from the start. It is one of those trophy projects that a nation could be proud of having. The key elements to this kind of project would be a spectacular location, groundbreaking design, team of award-winning architects and designers, a great hotel brand; and most importantly the right (and deep-pocketed) owners who share the same vision and eye on details that allows this dream to become a reality.
Capella has all of this. Owned by one of the most respectful firms in the industry, Pontiac Land, -which also owns The Ritz-Carlton Millenia, Conrad Centennial and The Regent; Capella has all the budget it needs to become one of Asia's most spectacular hotels, where no expense have been spared and no details have been overlooked....

Recent visitors to my photostream may recognise this image of the infinity pool at the Paloma Club Sultan but I think this 'v2' is a vast improvement. The main difference is I've flipped the girl round so she's looking into the frame but more subtlety I've cropped it slightly and increased the contrast and saturation (the original upload was pretty much 'straight out of the camera').
