International reports and studies provide good reason to believe that threats from a deliberate use of CBRN weapons are no longer inconceivable: international counter-terrorism experts consider a possible CBRN weapon attack possible.
Countries in Europe are gradually raising their level of preparedness for the possible event of a CBRN incident that could become a national security problem. The European Commission released in October 2017 its Action Plan to enhance preparedness against CBRN security risks as part of its comprehensive anti-terrorism package.
Sufficient and timely preparedness are essential and should be considered a high priority for the European Union. Europe can improve its coordination and learn best practices from international organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and past experiences in the United States of America.
This seminar provides a platform for a timely discussion and opportunity to exchange views between MEPs, European and international experts and relevant stakeholders, with the aim of taking further European political actions and raise awareness inside the EU institutions and beyond. Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.
History
The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.

Today the Project Inception Ceremony was held to launch the project on “Enabling civil society to play a greater role in advancing gender equality and women’s rights”. The project aims to increase the role of the civil society in advancing women’s rights and promote rural women’s economic and social participation. Representatives of government agencies, diplomatic corps, civil society and media took part at the ceremony.
The two-year project will be jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, and Women’s Association for Rational Development. The project is funded by the European Union and UNDP, with a total budget of 444 000 euro.
The new project is based on UNDP’s past experience with promoting rural women’s economic and social participation, and will focus on Sabirabad, Neftchala, Bilasuvar and Baku regions. The project will support the implementation of the CEDAW Convention by assisting women in selected regions of Azerbaijan to become economically and socially active and empowered. The project’s target group will be rural women, youth, local communities, and NGOs dedicated to women’s rights.
The project team will work closely with the government and civil society organizations to provide capacity building for NGOs on national commitments to CEDAW; capacity building for Women Resource Centres; trainings for women in social participation and entrepreneurial skills; and support for women’s business start-ups.
Solar powered borehole and dip tank rehabilitation.
The Dlawa community had not had a dip tank since 1978. They had been surviving through usage of pour-on chemical which is expensive and ineffective as it cannot cover the whole animal-leading to poor livestock health and high livestock mortality. The community is pleased to be one of the beneficiaries of the dip tanks that have been rehabilitated by the project. In addition to the dip tank, the community’s borehole has been solarized helping with provision of water for livestock and household use and even for use by the nearby school. The provision of water has also allowed for a demo vegetable plot which has increased the household’s nutritional diets.
This newly acquired tripod should significantly increase the quality of my still life and macro photography, all of which has been handheld so far. A group of medicines extracted from foxglove plants are called Digitalin. The use of D. purpurea extract containing cardiac glycosides for the treatment of heart conditions was first described in the English-speaking medical literature by William Withering, in 1785, which is considered the beginning of modern therapeutics. It is used to increase cardiac contractility (it is a positive inotrope) and as an antiarrhythmic agent to control the heart rate, particularly in the irregular (and often fast) atrial fibrillation. Digitalis is hence often prescribed for patients in atrial fibrillation, especially if they have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Digoxin was approved for heart failure in 1998 under current regulations by the Food and Drug Administration on the basis of prospective, randomized study and clinical trials. It was also approved for the control of ventricular response rate for patients with atrial fibrillation. American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guidelines recommend digoxin for symptomatic chronic heart failure for patients with reduced systolic function, preservation of systolic function, and/or rate control for atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular response. Heart Failure Society of America guidelines for heart failure provide similar recommendations. Despite its relatively recent approval by the Food and Drug Administration and the guideline recommendations, the therapeutic use of digoxin is declining in patients with heart failure—likely the result of several factors. Digoxin has not been promoted by the pharmaceutical industry and has received little attention at national and international meetings—possibly due to the development and promotion of other, newly patented therapies for heart failure. Safety concerns regarding a proposed link between digoxin therapy and increased mortality in women may also be contributing to the decline in therapeutic use of digoxin

This grant provides financial assistance with maintenance needs and upgrades so valuable programs, facilities and services can continue to be provided in safe and healthy environments for all Calgarians to enjoy.
