Increased bus service.

April 14, 2016. Boston, MA.

Workers rallied and marched through the streets of Boston to demand that minimum wage be increased to $15. Two bills pending on Beacon Hill would raise wages to $15 an hour for about 1,500 service employees at Logan Airport and over 200,000 workers at fast food and "big box" retail chain outlets across the state. Low-wage employees including airport workers, adjunct professors and home care workers turned out to show their solidarity with fast-food workers. The "Fight for $15" campaign is being backed by the Service Employees International Union and began in late 2012, with striking fast-food workers in New York City. Since then, the growing demonstrations have helped make hourly pay a major political issue. Organizers said strikes and protests were planned for cities including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami.

Solar powered borehole and dip tank rehabilitation.

The Dlawa community had not had a dip tank since 1978. They had been surviving through usage of pour-on chemical which is expensive and ineffective as it cannot cover the whole animal-leading to poor livestock health and high livestock mortality. The community is pleased to be one of the beneficiaries of the dip tanks that have been rehabilitated by the project. In addition to the dip tank, the community’s borehole has been solarized helping with provision of water for livestock and household use and even for use by the nearby school. The provision of water has also allowed for a demo vegetable plot which has increased the household’s nutritional diets.

Korea is another standout country for its recent increase in the percentage of its population that has a tertiary education. Graduates increased 5.3% between 1999 and 2009, the fifth-highest among OECD countries. Like the UK, this rate is greater than the country’s recent population growth. Korea is also one of only two countries — the other being Finland — in which the most popular fields of study are not social sciences, business and law. In Korea, new students choose to study education, humanities and arts at the greatest rates. Only 59.6% of expenditures on educational institutions come from public funds — the second-lowest rate.

HISTORY:

The Leeds and Liverpool canal was built from 1772 to increase industrial transportation between West Yorkshire and the Merseyside ports. Limestone, textiles and coal were in critical demand between Yorkshire and Lancashire at this time where trains were still only beginning to happen. Committees in Bradford and Liverpool formed and for a while disputed over their different respective plans for the route Following appeasement, the route as proposed via engineers John Longbotham and James Brindley was built at a cost of nearly £260, 000 and a length of 109 miles. The first phase, from Bingley to Shipley was up and running by 1774. By this time, Brindley had passed, and Longbotham had taken over as chief engineer. The construction from the Liverpool end reached Wigan in 1781.

The canal's overall construction spanned five decades, delayed further by money and disputes and also the colonial war in the late 1700s. Trade from Yorkshire to Liverpool was already brisk by the time construction finished, including branches - significantly the ones to Bradford and Wigan. Although both steam and horse drawn railways were available by 1800, the canal continued to thrive for a century.

Horse drawn barges would last impressively until 1960 while industrial trade remaining until the 1980s, by which time the bulk of such work was being done, quite inevitably by trains and lorries.

Today, the Leeds and Liverpool canal stretches for 127 miles, crossing the Pennines between the two cities, with additional branches bringing people - and still business - to and from other towns in Yorkshire and Lancashire on its journey. 91 locks are included, notably the notorious 5 Locks at Bingley, which take an apparent 3-4 hours to negotiate.

The towpath is used heavily by both walkers and cyclists on its route, with the Leeds end being notably active especially during commuter hours. At the newly developed Granary Wharf, the canal basin area has been heavily redeveloped in recent years while the new southern entrance to Leeds station also providing additionally quick access to the canal route.

Cattle Breed Improvement

In Matabeleland North of Zimbabwe where Mrs Mphala survives with her husband and 2 grandchildren, livestock is the main source of economic activity. The breed of cattle predominantly found in that area is however smaller in frame, achieving low weight and fetching less prices on the market compared to the larger breeds. Through the project, Mrs Mphala is one of the beneficiaries that received a subsidy to purchase a Brahman pedigree bull that she has begun breeding with her cows in the hope of improving her breed. In addition to the subsidy the Mphla household also received training on animal husbandry and health and nutrition for the bull.

which by chance reached up to exactly the base of the tower,

a situation which required

no aid from the imagination

to render it impressive.

Increasing dermal penetration of active cosmetic agents by delivering active molecules precisely to a selected area of action is the highest priority for any innovative “Smart” cosmetology treatment. This achieves the most efficient biological effect and is considered as the “cure all” of modern cosmetology. One of the most efficient and proven technologies - Iontophoresis is a method of introducing active substances into the skin by electric field strength. Mircod has developed an innovative microelectronic patch allowing modern cosmetic companies to introduce an innovative, friendly and easy to use products for controllable, targeted, intelligent and individualized cosmetic delivery. The term “iontophoresis” stands for ion transport. Low power and voltage have the ability to change the structure of cell membranes. The skin becomes permeable, it begins the activation of metabolism and regeneration processes. This is due to the formation of electromagnetic fields when electrodes with different poles are applied to the skin surface. The formation of new, as well as the reorientation of existing ions in the blood, lymph, and interstitial fluid begins. Different types of fabrics have different electrical conductivity. Electrodes applied to the skin provoke the occurrence of polarization processes, electroosmosis, electro-diffusion, irritation of nerve endings at all levels. This leads to vasodilation, which causes activation of lymph outflow and blood flow, and skin pores open.

Improving household nutrition

Nutrition is a crucial aspect that cross-cuts accross all of FAO’s work and is central in achieving the goal of zero hunger. Both small and large livestock contribute greatly to household nutrition. The ‘Making a living from Livestock’ project has been supporting an initiative on infant and young child feeding by diversifying household diets including locally available small livestock and livestock products. Through the project, Village Health Workers such as Portia Ncube have received training on infant nutritional health, diets and weight monitoring that her and her group are passing on to members of the community.

Silver City Historic District (Boundary Increase & Amendment)

Silver City, New Mexico

Listed 09/25/2013

Reference Number: 13000767

The town of Silver City includes four main historic districts. The Silver City Historic District (SCHD), representing the core commercial downtown, the earliest and finest residences of prominent settlers, and important public buildings such as the Grant County Courthouse, which was the town's first National Register district listing in 1978 (#375377). The Chihuahua Hill Historic District is located to the south; North Addition to the north; and, Black's Addition to the west-ali adjoining the SCHD. The Big Ditch or San Vicente Arroyo is the site of the original Main Street, which was destroyed by a catastrophic flood in 1895. Today, the Ditch creates a ribbon of green space with sizable trees and parkland that is an amenity to the town, and serves as the eastern boundary of the SCHD. This amendment and small boundary increase includes an extension of the period of significance, which originally ended in 1930, to 1960. The south end of Bullard Street, which includes the Bullard Hotel, the Texas-Louisiana Power Plant, the Silver Liquor Company Warehouse, the Ice Storage Building, and the Home Furniture Building was excluded from the early district listing. However, these resources, which fall within the new period of significance, warrant inclusion based on their location, historic integrity, and strong associations with the railroad boom of Silver City. This last block on the east side of South Bullard is being nominated as a boundary increase to the Silver City Historic District for local significance under Criterion A for Community Planning/Development and Criterion C for Architecture as intact examples of a railroad-era hotel, power plant supplying electricity to the town and nearby communities, and warehouses used for storage of important commodities. These resources reflect Silver City's early twentieth-century growth and reveal the influence that the railroad had on commercial development. The new period of significance also allows the inclusion of many important landmark buildings that date from between 1930 and 1960 and were considered neutral in the original nomination. These historic resources are interwoven with the late nineteenth and early twentieth century building fabric, and reflect the growth experienced in Silver City between the Depression and the years following World War II. The added resources represent evolving taste in design and style, new building technologies such as the abundant use of steel casement windows and even curtain walls, and Silver City's move toward modernization. These resources, too, are eligible for inclusion under Criteria A and C.

In our O~~m country, we' a~e live in times marked by an increase in aggressive communalism, corporate loot and corruption, .

suppress~on of student~ nghts on campuses and denial of basic facilities, assaults on democratic rights and civil liberties, the s~~press10n of workers struggles and people's movements and also a physical and ideological offensive on women's freedom. R1dmg on the wave of mass anger against price rise, corruption and corporate loot of Congress rule, communal fascist forces led by BJP-RSS have come to power with a huge majority promising 'acche din'. However, in just a few months of the NDA rule, the reality of this much-touted acche din has already come to the fore. Railway fares have been enormously hiked (a move which .

was incidentally opposed by Modi when he was aspiring to become the Prime Minister) thus leading to an overall hike in consumer prices, prices of basic commodities are still skyrocketing, and moreover the NDA has carried forward and even accelerated several of UPA's disastrous economic policies such as large-scale FDI in various sectors including Insurance and defence. .

Besides, the communal fascist forces have already launched their vitriolic campaign of hate and division across the country. The stage was set when one accused for Instigating riots in UP, was 'rewarded' with a Ministerial post in the Union cabinet and .

soon after, a young Muslim software engineer was murdered in Pune, a Muslim caterer was forced to break his fast during rozo by elected MPs belonging to the Shiv Sena, RSS ideologues are being given a free reign to claim that all Indians are 'Hindus', and now the entire state of UP is being carefully brought under the sway of a communal frenzy, even well-known public figures such as Sania Mirza are being forced to 'prove' their 'nationality'. BJP-RSS' pet project of saffronising education started with a big .

If the Congress refused to take steps to improve the institutional response to rape and sexual violence, the NDA continues to appoint rape accused as Ministers In senior positions of power. The NDA has moreover shown all indications in its first budget of carrying forward and intensifying the UPA's legacy of "fund-cuts" for social welfare schemes such as NREGA and public health care, and for education. .

As we've said before, the brain does not operate at one brainwave frequency at any given time.

By using an EEG unit to detect the minute electrical signals the brain generates, we can witness the effect of an environment or stimulus on the brain itself.

The image below shows the brainwaves of an individual suffering from a stressful environment, prior to using the the Brain Evolution System for the first time:

This brainwave sample was taken right after the subject's brain was exposed to high pressure problem solving. During this test the subject was visibly agitated and inefficient.

Notice the high peaks (amplitude) of the brainwaves, in the 3D rendering above left. Also, take notice of the accompanying high BETA brainwaves in the overhead peak indicator view, above right.

After 5 Minutes

This next image shows the same individual experiencing the first 5 minutes of BrainEv usage. Notice the significant decrease of amplitude in the brainwaves. During this period, the user reported feelings of refreshment and focus.

After 12 Minutes

A mere 12 minutes into the program and the listener descends toward low Alpha and Theta frequencies. During this period the user reported feelings of deep tranquillity and full body relaxation.

After 15 Minutes

The next EEG reading shows brainwaves 15 minutes into the program. You can see significant evidence of brainwave entrainment, as the brainwaves reach a consistent average of low Alpha and Theta frequencies.

As the session completed, the listener reported a state of "absolute peace," which accompanied a profound connection to visual information and ideas.

15 Minute Comparison

Compare these brainwave to the agitated and violent EEG patterns from the beginning brainwave sample and the results are dramatic - all within just 15 minutes.

Imagine...

If such profound results are possible after the first 15 minutes of use, think of what you'll experience throughout the entire brainwave entrainment course! www.nucellcanada.ca/store

I am really happy with the colourway so far, but I am not sure if I am going to attempt to match the stripes or not. I tried when I started the second skein, but the colors didn't repeat the same as the first. I think I will probably let go of my obsessive compulsive tendencies and just let the colors be chosen by destiny.

AUTONOMOUSLY ON THE ROAD

While the idea of fully driverless cars and taxi services still seems years away, the future of autonomous trucks on the road seems a lot more plausible. And it could not come at a more critical time, as the trucking industry faces driver shortages, long transit times, and increased demand for freight. We’ll hear from two companies well on the road to proving that trucking has become the fastest route to commercializing and scaling self-driving technology.

Amidst increased geopolitical tensions, there has been growing concern that terrorist groups, lone wolves or rogue nations might use biological weapons, or any type of CBRN weapon. International reports and studies provide good reason to believe that threats from a deliberate use of CBRN weapons are no longer inconceivable: international counter-terrorism experts consider a possible CBRN weapon attack possible.

Countries in Europe are gradually raising their level of preparedness for the possible event of a CBRN incident that could become a national security problem. The European Commission released in October 2017 its Action Plan to enhance preparedness against CBRN security risks as part of its comprehensive anti-terrorism package.

Sufficient and timely preparedness are essential and should be considered a high priority for the European Union. Europe can improve its coordination and learn best practices from international organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and past experiences in the United States of America.

This seminar provides a platform for a timely discussion and opportunity to exchange views between MEPs, European and international experts and relevant stakeholders, with the aim of taking further European political actions and raise awareness inside the EU institutions and beyond. And hopefully it can work out a satisfactory answer to the main question: is Europe sufficiently prepared?

Stress, a curse or a boon? Discussing Eustress, Distress, Acute Stress, and Chronic Stress…

Everybody has to deal with stress in everyday situations in today's world. However, we ought to know the basics about stress, its different kinds to be able to deal with them a little better.

What exactly is Stress?

The physical response of the body to a real or imagined threat or danger is known as stress. When you are threatened, your body produces stress hormones that prepare you to react, called a "fight or flight" response. This response is intended to be beneficial. To deal with the threat, our heart rate rises, providing blood and oxygen to our muscles while also increasing our adrenaline levels. It might also take a serious face if the stressor keeps troubling us for a longer time, leading this response to repeat itself. This article dwells on the problematic and beneficial factors of various types of stress.

Eustress

More often than not, the "threat" We discussed above will be viewed as a task to complete in a shorter period. This sort of stress, known as eustress, is neither unpleasant nor harmful to our health. It is the type of stress we feel when starting a new career, getting prepared for a child's birth, or relocating. Our bodies' stress hormones can aid us by motivating us and encouraging us to be more productive and excited. It can benefit our mental health by promoting us to create a positive impact through our successful attempts.

Acute Stress

Acute stress has recurrent impacts on practically everyone at some point or the other in their lives. It has to do with current events and pressures, such as being late for work or forgetting an essential appointment. A small amount of this form of stress might be beneficial, inspiring you to keep going and complete tasks. These small pressures can mount up over time, but by better organizing, your time, taking care of your health, and practising relaxation techniques, you can handle acute stress effectively.

Chronic Stress

Chronic stress is a long-term, persistent state of stress that, if left untreated, can have a significant impact on your health.

Chronic stress has a negative impact on both the mind and the body. It causes both physical and psychological symptoms, which can make it difficult for a person to function regularly in their daily lives. Chronic stress is not always easy to spot. People become so acclimated to it since it is so prevalent and long-lasting that it comes to feel normal.

Distress

Any of these sorts of stress might cause distress if you are unable to cope with it. When you have a lot of acute stress elements, chronic stress from events that you can't change for a long time, or habitual behaviours that cause you to have unpleasant emotional tension regularly, you're in distress. Internal factors, such as stress that is caused by our repetitive thoughts and emotions rather than external factors, have the large potential of producing distress. Internal patterns of fears, phobias, compulsive thought habits, and high demand for perfectionism can all cause us pain.

Concluding Words

Get professional help if your stress is out of control, causing panic attacks, depression, or health difficulties. Therapy can be an essential and beneficial technique in learning to cope with chronic stress sources and prevent being in a distressed condition.

Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.

History

The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.
