Gare de Catinzaco

Modernity and history live together in the Square Mile. CLose together.

I would like to say this was an intentional inclusion of the man and his dog but in honesty I didn't see him until after taking the shot. I was slightly annoyed but when I compared it to the shot without I preferred this one.

PH-LLG "Neptunus"

Lockheed L-188C Electra

188-2014

Martinair Holland

PH-LLG is about to line up for take-off on Riem’s runway 25. Noted several times at the airport during 1968 (9 April 1968, 14 May 1968, 9 June 1968, 22 July 1968). Previously had also been seen here with KLM, e.g. on 25 February 1967. (Dates from Klaus Held’s Riem chronicle).

Information from airhistory.net - thanks to Ole Johan Beck:

First flight 1960, delivered new to KLM as PH-LLG named "Neptunus" February 25th 1960. Repainted to the new KLM revision ca 1965. April 1st 1968 Leased to Martinair until September 1968. January 12th 1969 N857U Universal Airlines. May 1969 converted to freighter L-188C(F). May 5th 1972 Saturn Airways. December 1976 TIA (merged). October 1979 N857U Transamerica. September 1984 Interstate Airlines, October 1987 SE-IZU Falcon Air, March 1993 G-FIZU Hunting Cargo. May 1997 EI-CHY rr, December 1998 G-FIZU Atlantic Airlines. March 1999 Channel Express. September 2016 Buffalo Airways C-GIZU for spares.

From the excellent Martinair history in Flash 1978 no. 92:

"To bridge the period between fading out of the DC-7s and the arrival of all three DC-9s on order, an Electra was leased from KLM in April 1968. The lease was intended for a two years period but KLM’s opportunity to favourably dispose of its entire Electra inventory limited PH-LLG’s life with Martinair to nine months only."

The Scala dei Turchi (Italian: "Stair of the Turks") is a rocky cliff on the coast of Realmonte, near Porto Empedocle, southern Sicily, Italy. It has become a tourist attraction due to its unusual white color, as well as by its mention in Andrea Camilleri's series of detective stories about Commissario Montalbano.

The Scala is formed by marl, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name. The latter part of the name derives from the frequent raids carried on by Moors.

In August 2007, the municipality of Realmonte applied for the inclusion of the Scala dei Turchi (together with the nearby Roman Villa Aurea) in the UNESCO Heritage List.

So because of ... circumstances, my flight was delayed to where I had to overnight at the airport. So, bored, and with a camera handy, I took some photos. Here are some results!

OO-TEG "Adrianus Andreas Jnr"

Airbus A300B4-103

017

Trans European Airways (TEA), leased to EgyptAir

OO-TEG was also noted at Riem on 6 May and 13 May 1979 in this hybrid livery. Here, the aircraft is coming in to land on runway 07. The first reported sighting of this airframe at Riem was on 10 November 1976 with TEA. On 31 March 1980, the aircraft would re-appear as SU-BBS with EgyptAir, and later during the 1980s it would frequently be seen here as D-AHLC with Hapag-Lloyd.

The second A300 for TEA (first flight October 7, 1975) was delivered on October 15, 1975. Baptized "Adrianus Andreas Jnr", it went operational two days later. From the beginning of April 1977, OO-TEG was leased to Egyptair, at first in this hybrid livery (first noted such at Cairo on April 6 1977). On July 2 1979 it was reregistered to SU-BBS and resprayed in their full livery by November of the same year, it would never return to TEA. (Source: www.skystef.be)

Leased to Hapag-Lloyd as D-AHLC from March 1983,the aircraft went on to Air Inter as F-GJIS in January 1990 and was leased to Holiday Airlines as TC-RAA from March 1995. The last registration was F-GLOC with Air France. Stored at CHR (Chateauroux) in February 1997 and broken-up there in 1998, completely gone by November 2003.
