A view of the rock Cinchado at the Los Roques de Garcia rock formations in the Mount Teide National Park with the hulking mass of the inactive volcano of Teide as a backdrop. I say inactive its not playing up like Mount Etna is at the moment and can only say I'm glad we did not experience anything like they have been experiencing on Etna.
The base of Cinchado is constantly being eroded and will one day topple over. The different colours in the layers of the rock are quite eye catching and the whole area is like a scene from another world, quite unlike anything in the UK.Pity I hadn't the time to explore further and will bee worthy of a return visit in the future.Well worth a visit if you get the chance.
Thanks for taking the time to view this and other images in my photo stream.

Again I will search the woods behind my place for any active hummingbird nests but so far in my life I have only found them in Winter and of course inactive.
The upper portion of the Freshwater Lake Trail in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Dominica, is along the rim of an inactive volcano.
Chimborazo is a currently inactive stratovolcano in the Cordillera Occidental range of the Andes. Its last known eruption is believed to have occurred around A.D. 550.
With a peak elevation of 6,263 m (20,548 ft), Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador. It is the highest peak near the equator. Chimborazo is not the highest mountain by elevation above sea level, but its location along the equatorial bulge makes its summit the farthest point on the Earth's surface from the Earth's center.
An early start and I found a heavy frost. I searched all my usual haunts for butterflies and found just two Orange Tips [Anthocaris cardamines], at the edge of a field. The cold had made them inactive but the rising sun was melting the frost quickly, leaving them covered in dew drops. Worth a look at full size, if you have the time, I love the dew drops on his eye!

Bull snake. They're not aggressive but get too close and they coil up and strike. Relatively harmless and beneficial.
Unlike birds and mammals, reptiles do not maintain a constant internal body temperature. Without fur or feathers for insulation, they cannot stay warm on a cold day, and without sweat glands or the ability to pant, they cannot cool off on a hot one. Instead, they move into the sun or into the shade as needed. During cooler parts of the year they become inactive. Because of their slow metabolism and heat-seeking behavior, reptiles are cold-blooded.

Well, this description will be somewhat different, since I write for you and some of my sponsors.
First of all, a thousand apologies for being sooo inactive, my flickr was suspended due to the new rules and I had to wait almost a week for the problem to be solved.
Second, I've had to delete almost all of my photos from old to some new (in this case, the ones I felt didn't meet the “safe” standard).
And third and last, I will be making posts a little less constant because my university scheduled me in the afternoon and I hardly have much time between jobs, projects and exams, because I have to redo my schedules and get used to it. However, after so many obstacles I am still encouraged and always committed to continue making my posts, always giving my best. I hope you can understand and that, despite this, you continue to trust me to be a blogger ♥️ Without further ado, I hope you all have a nice and excellent day, thanks for stopping to read.

I had seen these older Pied-billed Grebe chicks a few times, but on each occasion they were inactive and alone. On this occasion, Mom (or maybe Dad) came out of nowhere and all the kids gathered around. It wasn’t for feeding but seemed to me to just be family bonding time. Happy Fathers’ Day to all the fathers out there. (Podilymbus podiceps). (Sony a1ii, 400mm lens with 1.4 extender giving 560mm, 1/2500 second, f/9, ISO 1600)

I am currently in a full time business program, and hoping to secure a $5,000 CAD grant for 'Poppy's Petites'.
Poppy's Petites 2.0 plans to relaunch at the end of March @ poppyspetites.etsy.com
The store will have lots more than ever before, and will begin offering optional variations on store items, like hair clip, magnet, pin , etc
I am super swamped but super excited that I have so much going on right now.
As some of you may have noticed, The Most Popular Poppy Picture Contest is currently not running, for an indefinite period.
I'm hoping to have enough time this summer to host a couple!
Also thanks to Yoko*Dolls for Poppy's amazing dress!
Mount Erciyes (Turkish: Erciyes Dağı), also known as Argaeus (Greek: Άργαίος), its etymon, is an inactive volcano in Kayseri Province, Turkey. It is a large stratovolcano surrounded by many monogenetic vents and lava domes, and one maar. The bulk of the volcano is formed by lava flows of andesitic and dacitic composition. At some time in the past, part of the summit collapsed towards the east.
The volcano began to form in the Miocene. At first, a volcano farther east named Koç Dağ formed from lava flows. Then, again to the east, large explosive eruptions formed a caldera. During the Pleistocene, Mount Erciyes proper grew inside the caldera together with a group of lava domes. Lateral eruptions of Erciyes may have generated ash layers in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean during the early Holocene.
The last eruptions occurred during the early Holocene and may have deposited ash as far away as Palestine; the occurrence of historical volcanism is uncertain. Future eruptions of Erciyes may endanger the nearby cities to the north. The volcano was glaciated during the Pleistocene. One regular glacier still exists, but is receding.

Another angle of the dam in Yaropolets.
The Yaropoletskaya hydroelectric power station is an inactive small hydroelectric power station on the Lama River in the village of Yaropolets, Volokolamsk urban district, Moscow region of Russia, one of the first rural power plants in the USSR.
In the fall of 1918, a group of Yaropolets enthusiasts, led by school labor teacher Pyotr Kirillov, decided to create a power plant in the village. They drew up a project for a station with 5 horsepower produced by the engine of a flax processing station. This power turned out to be insufficient, and on the basis of the water mill of the Chernyshev estate, a hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 12.5 kilowatts was created in the annex. The hydroelectric power station made it possible to illuminate the village. In November 1920, Vladimir Lenin came to neighboring Kashino to open the so-called “first rural power station” (diesel). A delegation from Yaropolets also arrived there, which persuaded Lenin and Krupskaya to come to the Yaropoletskaya hydroelectric station and help in its modernization. A turbine built at a plant near Moscow was installed, which made it possible to develop a power of 48 kilowatts and illuminate neighboring villages.
According to the sign in the hydroelectric power station building, in 1939, the power plant named after Lenin, with the assistance of Krupskaya and Gleb Krzhizhanovsky, was reconstructed with the construction of a new dam and hydroelectric power station building. According to some sources, in the fall of 1941 the Nazis blew up the hydroelectric power station, after the war it was restored and in 1959 connected to the general network. According to others, the Nazis gathered, but did not blow up the hydroelectric power station, and it worked until 1958. In the 1980s, the hydroelectric power station, which did not produce electricity, was turned into a museum: the dam and spillway were reconstructed, and a new building was built.

Phare de Sainte Marie. The Phare de Sainte Marie is an inactive lighthouse built to mark the harbor of Marseille, France. Completed in 1855, it is made of natural-finished local limestone and stands 70 feet high. It is located at the north side of the Passe de la Joliette. This is at the southern entrance to the series of bassins that form the harbor. It was upgraded to electrical illumination in 1922 but is now inactive.
When newly emerged, the Ringlet has a velvety appearance and is almost black, with a white fringe to the wings. The small circles on the underwings, which give the butterfly its name, vary in number and size and maybe enlarged and elongated or reduced to small white spots; occasionally they lack the black ring. They are a dark brown butterfly and similar to male Meadow Brown
Bramble and Wild Privet flowers are favourite nectar sources, and adults continue to fly with a characteristic bobbing flight in dull, cloudy conditions when most other butterflies are inactive.
This widespread butterfly has extended its range in England and Scotland in recent years. Widespread on damp grassland throughout Britain and Ireland.
On a snowy morning, UP 1440 switches Granville Yard on the far northwest side of Milwaukee. Having already dropped some cars, the crew is arranging a setout for WSOR to pick up later on. The lights to the right illuminate(d) UP's former autorack facility here, which has been inactive for quite a number of years, now only in occasional use to store cars.
The size of the crater indicates how powerful Monarch Geyser, which is located in the Back Basin of Yellowstone National Park’s Norris Geyser Basin, was during its heyday. From the 1880s through the early 1900s this powerful geyser shot massive amounts of water between 100 and 200 feet high for a duration of 5 to 10 minutes. The geysers went dormant in 1913. In the mid-1990’s there was a short rejuvenation with small eruptions from one vent of 5 to 10 feet high. That has ceased and the geyser is currently a mostly quiet green pool. In a place where things change as much as they do at Norris, there is always the hope that the geyser may one day have major eruptions again.
On 22 July Snälltåget ran a special service RS 29671 between Malmö and Innsbruck in Austria. The 1700-km trip was covered by a 10-car rake and two Vectrons on its ends. 193 965 was seen driving the train, while 193 288 was inactive at the back. This picture focuses on the first loco, seen between Tårnby and Ørestad in Denmark. Pictures of the return train coming soon.
Taken in a field a short walk from the house in Axbridge. A cold enough morning that makes these flies quite inactive, enough to take a few shots at least.

It’s up and down at the moment. Over the last 3 weeks I’ve had a more active time photography wise after a good period of inactivity, but now I’m feeling a little burnt out again. I may venture out tomorrow morning to perversely shoot a rain forecast sunrise, that should really put the dampeners on the old photography lark.

An enigmatic nocturnal bird endemic to Australia, often heard making a high-pitched eerie sound at night. This one photographed during the day (partly obscured by foliage) when stone-curlews are usually inactive and standing quietly in the shade hoping not to be seen. Their cryptic plumage also makes them hard to spot among foliage and leaf litter.
Lyonization (also called X-inactivation) refers to the normal phenomenon in which one of the two X chromosomes in every cell of a female individual is inactivated. The coloration of certain cats is a visible manifestation of X-inactivation. The black and orange alleles of a fur coloration gene reside on the X chromosome. For any given patch of fur, the inactivation of an X chromosome that carries one allele results in the fur color of the other, active allele. For this reason cats with spotted fur are female.
I captured this recently during a walk in the woods.

Hooded mergansers pair up during their fall migration, so you might get to see some interesting behaviours other than the just the foraging that a majority of species focus on as they head south.
They males (pictured here) can be quite animated and make their head feathers puff up to form a prominent black and white hood. On this day, the birds were relative inactive, with the few birds present mostly swimming along calmly in a group or alone. Guess they were in the warm-up phase.

Last week, the Oberpfalz had a lovely sunny weekend. After a few doubts, I left Sweden on Friday to enjoy 218s on the RE 2 between Hof and Regensburg. Unfortunately, a few trains had been cancelled on Thursday and Friday there, which would be a shame if that continued during the weekend. However, it fit nicely in the agenda and I had some Interrail left, so why not :p
Currently, the 218s of Bw Kempten cannot be used in the Allgäu, as the Intercity trains to Oberstdorf are cancelled until the beginning of March. As a result, many of their locos currently help out between Regensburg and Hof. At the moment, that includes their blue/beige 218 446 and their orient red 218 406, but those locos seemed inactive upon departure. However, already on Friday afternoon, the 218 446 joined on the RE 2. On Saturday, we could therefore see the loco in Nabburg with RE 4861 from Hof to München Hbf, together with many other photographers.

Well, maybe the code line poles still stand. Spring of 2023 was the end of the line, literally, for the Hoosier Sub. After almost 15 years of inactivity, which saw theft of many semaphores and code wire, it will now become Indiana's longest rail trail at almost 70 miles and leaves Washington County with no railroad whatsoever.
