When newly emerged, the Ringlet has a velvety appearance and is almost black, with a white fringe to the wings. The small circles on the underwings, which give the butterfly its name, vary in number and size and maybe enlarged and elongated or reduced to small white spots; occasionally they lack the black ring. They are a dark brown butterfly and similar to male Meadow Brown.
Bramble and Wild Privet flowers are favourite nectar sources, and adults continue to fly with a characteristic bobbing flight in dull, cloudy conditions when most other butterflies are inactive.
This widespread butterfly has extended its range in England and Scotland in recent years. Widespread on damp grassland throughout Britain and Ireland.

Lasses Birgitta (died 1550). She was the first woman executed for sorcery in Sweden. After the trial of Birgitta, the Swedish witch hunt remained more or less inactive until the 1590s, and the real witch hysteria was not to break loose until 1668. Approximately 400 people executed for the crime in Sweden. Most of these were women - but Birgitta was the only one burned alive.

Strokkur is Iceland’s most visited active geyser. One of the three major attractions on the world-famous Golden Circle sightseeing route, it is usually visited alongside Gullfoss Waterfall and Þingvellir National Park.
Strokkur is found in the Geysir Geothermal Area, titled after the Great Geysir, which lent its name to all others across the world. It is the greatest active geyser on site; Geysir itself is in a period of inactivity. Strokkur erupts more regularly than Geysir ever did, blasting water to heights of around fifteen to twenty metres every five to ten minutes, although it is known to reach up to fort

Widespread and common throughout Britain and Ireland. The Gatekeeper is generally smaller and more orange with a row of tiny white dots on the hind underwings.
The Meadow Brown is the most abundant butterfly species in many habitats. Hundreds may be seen together at some sites, flying low over the vegetation. Adults fly even in dull weather when most other butterflies are inactive.
Regional variations in the spotting pattern on the wings have led to it being studied extensively by geneticists over many years. Larger forms occur in Ireland and the north of Scotland.
It is one of our most widespread species, but many colonies have been lost due to agricultural intensification.
We all know it's sometimes nice to sit down for a really big meal., and this lucky Heron had just flown in to do exactly that! Christmas had arrived early! He had been a very active Heron., going about all his usual fishing., but then he caught this! Unsurprisingly he spent the rest of the afternoon inactive and content by the side of the lake., no doubt contemplating if there might just be another one off those monster worms somewhere close by? Forget the waste-line., that was delicious!
The Nlak’pamux Church, also known as St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church. c. Early 1900's
Believed to be built sometime between 1905 - 1907
A photographer's favorite.
A small wood framed, Gothic Revival building, it is quite straightforward in design, with a small narthex at the front of the rectangular nave, a small bell tower over the entrance and a small altar extending out the rear. The bell tower is of interesting design, rising out of the gable of the narthex, with a shingled steeple like a little brown helmet, surmounted by a wooden cross. The belfry vents, with gable tops, are open all around, exposing the 26 inch bell which still hangs within. The building is clad entirely in shingles, many of which are now coming adrift, indicating its recent years of inactivity. All openings are rectangular, lacking Gothic arches, doubtless concessions to economics and the need to complete the church in a timely fashion.
Spences Bridge is a community in the Canadian province of British Columbia, situated 35 km north east of Lytton and 44 km south of Ashcroft. In 1892, the population included 32 people of European ancestry and 130 First Nations people. There were five general stores, three hotels, one Church of England and one school. Wikipedia

Just sort of liked the color combination.........Thank you my Flickr buddies for all of the well wishes on the pinched nerve situation in my back. It is still pretty sensitive. But I have been trying to get out and walk a bit. The inactivity makes the joints stiffen up ( as well as the brain) 😜😁😂
Poike, the oldest volcano:
The Poike volcano was the first piece of land that emerged from the sea and, together with subsequent volcanic eruptions, formed the present territory of Easter Island. Its somewhat remote and isolated location and its difficult access make Poike a little-visited place. However, this mysterious territory contains secret corners and ancient legends that invite to discover it calmly and to know better the past of the island.
Poike, the first volcano on the island:
The name of Poike, usually translated by “hill”, seems to come from the Rapanui expression “Po” (night); “ike” (break) which means “place where the night breaks” because it is the first place on the island that receives the first rays of the rising sun.
Indeed, the Poike is located at the eastern end of Easter Island, and is the oldest of the three main volcanoes on the island, next to the Rano Kau and the Ma’unga Terevaka, which originated their formation. It is estimated that this first eruptive center emerged from the sea about 3 million years ago creating the so-called Poike Peninsula, although its activity was maintained until about 300 thousand years ago. Originally this peninsula was an island but later it was joined to the main body of the island, by lava flows coming from the Terevaka and other nearby volcanic centers.
The Poike is now an inactive volcano with a fairly symmetrical cone shape. The main crater has a circular shape and by its resemblance to a halo of sun or moon was called Pua Katiki, although in another version its name would mean “hill that serves to monitor the cattle.” Unlike other craters, this is totally dry and measures around 150 meters in diameter and about 10 meters deep. Inside a small eucalyptus forest grows that crowns the summit like a leafy green plume visible from afar.
From Pua Katiki, where the Poike reaches a maximum height of 460 meters, a wide plain of gentle slope is observed. which covers an area of about 4.5 km from east to west and 3.5 km from north to south. This large area, almost exclusively covered by a type of grass called here hoi (Sporobolus indicus), ends abruptly on 100-meter-high coastal cliffs formed by the continuous erosion of the sea on the Poike peninsula.
_______________________________________________
For some unknown reason, during the period of construction of the large statues, considered the golden age of the island, it is believed that the inhabitants of the Poike peninsula remained separate from the others and hardly participated in the work of carving in the quarries of Rano Raraku.
One proof of its isolation is that only two of the statues found in the Poike are made of the lapilli tuff of the Rano Raraku, while the rest of the statues were made of the white trachyte coming from the Poike deposits.

Took a train ride over to Nottingham today to see family and thought I'd give the camera an outing after almost 3 months of inactivity.
First good news is the return fare from Acton Bridge is still just under £15👍 Second good news was the sun made a brave attempt to appear for the Tesco containers - which just happened to pass five minutes before my train was due👍👍
Doing the honours today was DRS class 88 no. 88009 'Diana', and the train is the 5.40am Daventry - Mossend (4S43). There may be a bit of artistic licence here and there - but every little helps, as they say.

It is a bit hard to realize that there would be a place in Hawaii where you would need your warm jacket. Yet you will find that place at the summit of Haleakala mountain (which is an inactive volcano). A 22 mile long twisted road (really sharp curves!) is your way from 1000 ft to 10000 ft elevation. Many people were biking up there, though the scale of the challenge is easily understandable (9K ft of elevation in just 22 miles). Fortunately there is plenty of parking up there, at least after sunrise. The summit of the mountain is usually covered with clouds making the whole scene unearthly and magical. I was there on a day with low clouds, well as low as they can be considered when they are at 10.000 ft, so getting clear shots of the surroundings was hard.

From a time long ago, the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 (formerly CVA-67) is the only ship of her class (a variant of the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carriers) and the last conventionally powered carrier built for the United States Navy to take the seas. She is nicknamed "Big John".
After nearly 40 years of service in the United States Navy, Kennedy was officially decommissioned on 1 August 2007. She is berthed at the NAVSEA Inactive Ships On-site Maintenance facility in Philadelphia and, until late 2017, was available for donation as a museum and memorial to a qualified organization. In late 2017, the Navy revoked her "donation hold" status and designated her for dismantling.
She took the seas to support during the Yom Kippur War, was also deployed to the Mediterranean Sea for Beirut, Lebanon after 24 marines were killed by bombing in their sleep. Additionally, she took the seas in Operation Desert Storm, as well as to support actions in the Mediterranean Sea off of the coast of Yugoslavia. Afterward she returned to Philadelphia where she sits in the Navy Yard at the mouth of the Delaware River. Old soldiers don’t die. They just fade away.

Hello my beautiful people!! how are u? I hope you are well, I missed you <3
Well, this description will be somewhat different, since I write for you and some of my sponsors.
First of all, a thousand apologies for being sooo inactive, my flickr was suspended due to the new rules and I had to wait almost a week for the problem to be solved.
Second, I've had to delete almost all of my photos from old to some new (in this case, the ones I felt didn't meet the “safe” standard).
And third and last, I will be making posts a little less constant because my university scheduled me in the afternoon and I hardly have much time between jobs, projects and exams, because I have to redo my schedules and get used to it. However, after so many obstacles I am still encouraged and always committed to continue making my posts, always giving my best. I hope you can understand and that, despite this, you continue to trust me to be a blogger ♥️ Without further ado, I hope you all have a nice and excellent day, thanks for stopping to read.
After this short but long commercial break , today, I bring you one of several new photos that I hope you like and give it many likes, comment what you think, follow me (i follow back :x) and share with your friends, it would help me a lot to continue growing and improving to be a better blogger every day <3

This moment seems chilled by a cloud.
Let us poke the squirming fellow

Jacamars are reacted to puffbirds and more distantly to barbet and toucans. www.nrm.se/download/18.4e32c81078a8d9249800021325/Johanss...
From Wiki: The jacamars are a family, Galbulidae, of near passerine birds from tropical South and Central America, extending up to Mexico. The family contains five genera and 18 species. They are closely related to the puffbirds, another Neotropical family, and the two families are often separated into their own order, Galbuliformes, separate from the Piciformes. They are principally birds of low-altitude woodlands and forests, and particularly of forest edge and canopy.
Jacamars are insectivores. They spend most of the day perched (inactive) waiting for flying-by insects or butterflies to snatch in mid air and return to the same spot.

Found this Worker Bee doing what Bees do… Stop and Smell the Flowers. Maybe that’s something we all could benefit from : )
____________________________
More than you may want to know about Worker Bees:
A worker bee is any female bee that lacks the full reproductive capacity of the colony's queen bee. While worker bees occur in all bee species, the term is rarely used for any bees other than honey bees.
Honey bee workers gather pollen into the pollen baskets on their back legs and carry it back to the hive where it is used as food for the developing brood. Pollen carried on their bodies may be carried to another flower where a small portion can rub off onto the pistil, resulting in cross pollination.
A significant amount of the world's food supply depends greatly on crop pollination by honey bees. Nectar is sucked up through the proboscis, mixed with enzymes in the stomach, and carried back to the hive, where it is stored in wax cells and evaporated into honey.
The life span of a worker bee is generally only a few months, and rarely can survive a year. The life span is 1-2 months in summer and can be up to 6-8 months over autumn and winter.
Honeybee workers keep the hive temperature uniform in the critical brood area (where new bees are raised). This is in the center of the hive. Workers must maintain the hive's brood chamber at 34.4 C to incubate the eggs. If it is too hot, they collect water and deposit it around the hive, then fan air through with their wings causing cooling by evaporation. If it is too cold, they cluster together to generate body heat.
The life of all honeybees start as an egg, which is laid by the queen in the bottom of a wax cell in the brood area of a hive. A worker egg hatches after three days into a larva. Nurse bees feed it royal jelly at first, then pollen and honey for six days. It then becomes an inactive pupa.
During its 14 days as a pupa, sealed in a capped cell, it grows into a worker bee, emerging on the 21st day. In most species of honeybees, workers do everything but lay eggs and mate. They build the comb from wax extruded from glands under their abdomen.

I've been inactive the past three weeks because of a back injury and pain. I had a two-week supply of images from recent bike rides, so you probably didn't notice the lapse. I have required a cane to walk, but I can ride a bike without pain. This is my first bike ride in three weeks! I've done one more ride since then. Yesterday I did my first hike without a cane with very little pain. I'm back!

Pole Creek Ranch has cows in a distant field and more horses than shown plus a camel, but we especially enjoyed the goats. We were invited to let them lick peanuts from our hand and not to worry if they jumped the fence as they would jump back in again. That brown goat on our side of the fence leaped over the fence, or on to the top rail which she could walk on with ease. She also gave me a gentle bump to request more peanuts. The snow covered, inactive volcanic peaks are Broken Top, South Sister, Middle Sister and North Sister.
The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is an inactive coal mine in Alberta, Canada that operated from 1936 to 1979. Located in East Coulee near Drumheller, it is considered to be Canada's most complete historic coal mine and is home to the country's last standing wooden coal tipple, and the largest still standing in North America. It was designated an Alberta Provincial Historic Resource in 1989 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 2002 ~ Wiki

After this short but long commercial break , today, I bring you one of several new photos that I hope you like and give it many likes, comment what you think, follow me (i follow back :x) and share with your friends, it would help me a lot to continue growing and improving to be a better blogger every day <3
I love you very much, keep taking care of yourselves and meet your daily goals my loves!!
I forgot, I created a twitter for photos of SL anyway, I hope you can follow me there and can support my photos that I take with love <3 (@AckermannSerena)

Valanga irregularis (common name "giant grasshopper", "giant valanga" or "hedge grasshopper") belongs to the Family of Acrididae. The distribution is restricted in the Australian tropics and subtropics. The species belongs to the largest grasshopper of the continent. Usually the animal lives a solitary mode of life.
Valanga irregularis is native in the tropic and subtropic regions of Australia, northward of Sydney.
The species favours a moist climate. In spring and autumn they are often found in grassland or forest. If the atmospheric conditions are ideal they sometimes leave for suburban gardens.
Adults generally spend the winter months in their hideout but they remain not completely inactive as they leave their lair from time to time for eating or sunbathing. The mating season begins in the first warm spring days. The males call the females with noises and they typically meet on the food supply.
