It is common for the vagrant community to arm itself with improvised weapons. To use this weapon you simply insert the rope into your fingers and swing the lock with a haymaker punch. If landed the effect is devastating and you are less likely to injure your hand. Typically the lock and cord set up is kept in a pant pocket.

I found this on a park table and is the first of its kind I have seen in person.

This woman lives in the improvised housing along the N2. There are 12 people that share these 4 rooms. There are lavatories down the street and around the corner. You can get prepaid electricity if there is some romex run to your place. There are also "public" cell phone kiosks nearby. The government is trying to surmount the need for housing that faces the people that are pouring into their country, especially since improvised housing areas that spring up are totally unsafe from a fire standpoint with very limited access to potable water.

Before I answered the phone... I was like: "what?"

Soft ice cream on the ferry made a good improvised burn salve. It cooled the burn and the oil in the soft ice cream seemed to give it a protective coat too keeping the air off of it.

The only trouble we had with the little blue car during the entire trip was in downtown Vancouver in start and stop traffic. The car overheated. We had to stop a couple of times and add water to the radiator. The second time the pressure hadn't released enough before David went to take the cap off fully and we had a recreation of Old faithful geysering into him. His right hand got scalded somewhat and even his eyelids were sore for a bit. It hurt, but wasn't too serious.

Once we were moving even 20 km/hour the engine was cooling again. We had it looked at and fixed the next day. The fan relay had stopped working so the fan had not been turning on. The problem only showed up in the stop and start conditions of a traffic jam.

Ah, cable ties - what would we do without them?

Improvised Tortellini Soup

* 1 chicken breast, cut up into bite-sized pieces

* 1 container chicken broth, 1 container Trader Joe’s vegetable broth (both low sodium)

* Package of Barilla tortellini (I believe it was Spinach and Cheese filling)

* 1 summer squash, cut up into bite-sized pieces

* Lemon peel from 1 lemon

* Spices: salt (maybe), thyme, rosemary

* Extra virgin olive oil

Since I made this a month ago, I don’t remember exactly how I cooked it, but I think I heated the oil in a soup pot then cooked the chicken in it until it was just cooked through. I added the broth and everything else (EXCEPT the tortellini) and cooked the soup until the squash was tender. Finally, I added the tortellini and cooked it through (about another 10 minutes). Although the red broth initially surprised him, my boyfriend loved this soup and has requested it again.

and a well conceived idea.

The owners of Calke Abbey, Ticknall, Derbyshire were very secretive and reclusive as well as being major collectors of just about anything. This dog, rather than being thrown away, had a matchbox placed under a broken leg.

It rained between my place and the train station. Not unexpectedly.
