Dubai's Marina Skyline shot from 101 The Palm. During a recent holiday to Dubai I was keen to re-shoot previous locations to make a few improvements. This view must be one of the best available of the cityscape.
A few nights prior I had shot this scene well into the night (with a tripod) but found the contrast between the bright lights and the black night sky too harsh. I prefer this light in the blue hour, unfortunately I was deemed as being 'professional' with my tripod (in my dreams) on this occasion. I improvised by using my very handy Manfrotto Pocket to balance - very tentatively - on a railing. All things considered I was pleased to get the shot away, although I did lose a lens hood to the water below. It could have been worse.
This little wax eye was being chased off the bird feeder by larger wax eyes. I had just feed our Burmese cat so enlisted the empty can to set up a syrup feeder away from the main feeder. Great to see it enjoyed a hassle free feed.
A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to prevent sun-stroke when he has no sun hat ! Of course, you don't see too many of these nowdays. Full marks for improvisation!

Meanwhile the blinds that should have darkened the room failed to work, so the photowork never worked, and we only saw pale versions of what I think could have been a great show.
Nevertheless the sounds were inspiring!
I didn't have the tripod with me, so imporvised and put the camera on the grass...not quite the same!
