Improved Health of Women and Adolescent Girls in Situations of Vulnerability (IHWAG) Project Review of Best Practices in Guyana.
The purpose of this mission to Guyana is with the primary objective of gathering audiovisual materials that highlight best practices and demonstrate the positive impact of the IHWAG Project in Guyana. This is in line with the visibility and advocacy objectives of the Project as it nears its conclusion in 2025.
This review of best practices is a joint effort between the PAHO Guyana Country Office, the IHWAG Project Management Team, the PAHO Communications Department (CMU), and the Latin American Center for Perinatology, Women and Reproductive Health (CLP)
The IHWAG Project would like to showcase the achievements made particularly in Georgetown and in Region 9 with respect to the implementation of the SIP+. In consultation with national counterparts, the collection of a three-to-four-minute story-based video, photographs, and testimonies are key to achieving this objective. It is anticipated that these materials will be included in the final communications product of the Project, a digital logbook.

I chose this picture from the other photos I improved because of the feedback I took into consideration. For many of my photos, I was given advice to fill the frame with my subject as opposed to allowing much background to set in. To edit this photo to those standards, I began with the crop tool. I cropped the image to fill the frame with all the arrangement of flowers. This allowed for much of the brick background to disappear and the flowers became the only focus and only colors. Second, to improve the overall quality of the photo, I played with a variety of tools from Photoshop. I wanted to enhance the colors and use the blur tool to make some of the flowers stand out. To do this, I began with the blur tool and used it over the entire image, initially blurring everything out. I then looked into the manual to see if I could unblur specific flowers to make some look normal. I chose the purple ones because they were already so bright and with my improvements, they would stand out even more. I used the erase tool on those specific ones and this took away the blur effect. For the final alteration, I adjusted the colors. I went to layer, adjustment layer and then chose the hue/saturation option. I increased only the saturation to brighten up the colors. I feel that overall changes brought some life to already lively flower arrangements. I believe this photo could be used within a small frame or even could be colored on a canvas to create beautiful image of many fall colors. During this process, I was also able to help a peer out using the same tools I did which was great, she was having trouble with the blur and erase tool so I was able to steer her in a more clear direction on the steps.
I feel that this photo is artistic because of the techniques I used to improve the overall effect. This photo is now filled with autumn flowers, yet has some vibrant colors stand out! I had to be careful to chose the right colors to blur so it doesn’t alter what I intended the photo to look like and have a steady hand, with the right size brush to only edit what I needed without an confusion in my photo. The result fills the frame and I was able to enhance the colors, while creating the blur effect to make the picture almost look 3D.
