An old favorite spiffed up a bit. This was one of the first photos I was halfway happy with when I ventured away from 35mm to digital. Unfortunately I had the camera set for low resolution and there isn't much of a file to work with. I don't normally do much alteration to my photos, besides bright/contrast and a little color correction. What you see is what you get for the most part, but I'm fooling around with a few oldies to improve my rather mediocre Photoshop skills.

Photographed at the Lakeside STA
Yes that is the same fence from which the wet web bung in the prior photo - a two-fer.
From Cornell:
The sweet, lazy whistles of Eastern Meadowlarks waft over summer grasslands and farms in eastern North America. The birds themselves sing from fenceposts and telephone lines or stalk through the grasses, probing the ground for insects with their long, sharp bills. On the ground, their brown-and-black dappled upperparts camouflage the birds among dirt clods and dry grasses. But up on perches, they reveal bright-yellow underparts and a striking black chevron across the chest.
Lakeside Ranch Stormwater Treatment Area (STA)
Located in western Martin County, the Lakeside Ranch Stormwater Treatment Area plays a crucial role in the restoration of the Lake Okeechobee watershed by improving the quality of water flowing into the lake. The wetlands treats stormwater runoff from the Taylor Creek and Nubbin Slough basins to the north before that runoff enters Lake Okeechobee.
Approximately 2,700 acres of Lakeside Ranch is open to the public to enjoy hiking, bicycling, wildlife viewing or simply relaxing. The recreation area is surrounded by levees that are accessible to visitors on foot or on bicycle.
Weather conditions improved in the late afternoon. This is a northwestward view from a hill that used to be the site for Chichijima's weather station.
The island in the left is Nishijima (脿島, western island), while those in the right are Hyoutanjima (ē¢ē®Ŗ島 gourd island), Anijima (å 島 older brother island), and Hitomarujima (äŗŗäøø島).
According the climate data provided by Japan Meteorological Agency, average temperature of the coldest month in Chichijima is 18.5 degree Celsius, which means Chichijima has a tropical climate.
Annual precipitation of Chichijima is 1,296 mm, and the precipitation of the driest month is 51.6 mm, which means Chichijima has the tropical monsoon climate (Am) as compared to the humid subtropical climate (Cfa) in the Izu islands and the main island part of Tokyo.
Chichijima's climate is relatively dry judging from the Japanese standard; annual precipitation of downtown Tokyo is 1,530 mm.

Congratulations to Surfers Bay's September 2022 Bay Guy and Girl Gangrul and Freya!. Make sure to say hi and congrats to them when you see them around the sim!

Still fine tuning my new camera.
I am liking it more and more as I am learning about the new and improved functionalities!
Improved my editing process, and I think I can get cleaner IR results from that little 1/2.3-inch sensor. Still some other maintenance to do on the camera, but this came out well enough that I'm going to share it.
This is a Panasonic Lumix ZS6 with the hot mirror removed and a 720nm filter. I then swapped red and blue channels in post to get yellow trees and blue sky instead of the reverse, and did some additional color adjustments.
I really like IR skies. IR reveals quite a bit of detail and drama.
These images are also my fall fix before the leaves have even started to change.

After their overnight run from Medley, FL, FEC train 336 switches onto the Cemex City Point lead at CP City Point in Cocoa, FL.
CP City Point was rebuilt from its original configuration a few months prior to this photo. Originally, it was just the single main and the City Point lead with some standard vaders. Now, as you can see, there's a whole new main being built and two tracks that turn west off of the main to head toward Orlando for Brightline.
Sandown pier was opened in 1878. It has been modified a number of times since then, partly to repair from storm, fires, but also to improve its offering to the public.

Trees improve air quality
Forests help purify drinking water
One large tree is a day's worth of oxygen for up to four people!
"A mighty wind blew night and day
It stole the oak tree's leaves away,
Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark
But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around."
A 35mm slide image, originally shared almost a decade ago, that has brushed up nicely courtesy of the improved digital darkroom skills (and software packages) I've managed to pick up over the last few years.
In this shot an Eastern Region Rail Rover and an overnight train from London Kings Cross provided for a dawn arrival in Newcastle Central, where first light catches a class 03 shunter at the eastern end of the station ready for the day's action. The Keep, a must-do destination for rail snappers visiting Newcastle back then, stands imposingly in the background.
As ever, exposure was a bit finger in the air with the Zodel F Lightmeter (a 60's vintage hand-me-down from my Dad), but two or three bracketed shots for safety managed to yield a result.
I had a couple of these ERRR's over the years and they provided superb rail photography opportunities for this East Midlander who had rarely ventured further east than Grantham.
This version should go to full-screen quite well. The original has been deleted.

After some nights spent to learn and practice new imaging techniques, I propose a version of my first attempt to Andromeda Galaxy, less harsh, more realistic and detailed and (I hope) nicer to see.

Running on track 2 due to track 1 being out of service for maintenance, a passenger test extra, with freshly rebuilt CTrail GE P40BH 6711 and five cars, makes its way south on a dismal afternoon in Wallingford. 6711 is former New Jersey Transit 4803 and Amtrak 820, which was built in July of 1993. The 12 Connecticut Department of Transportation P40s are being overhauled and repainted at Amtrak's Beech Grove Shops in Indiana.
This is an improved version of an upload from a few years back. Now I have worked on it I will probably enter it into competition.

Original title āWorking Girlā was inappropriate. Looked back at all my photos that year and asked myself what I liked best, and why. This is the type photo for a core themeāimages resolving contradictions. In this case, order and chaos, as the woman cleans the window of a clock shop with a perfectly horizontal squeegee stroke in a sea of bubbles. Love her contemplative expression, and the clutter of urban reflections superimposed on the orderly interior of a Viennese clock seller.

Much improved redo process May-2025. How do you think?

Kakku (or Kekku) Pagodas is a complex of 2,478 Buddhist Pagodas on a remote hill top, a few hours southeast of Inle Lake in Pa-Oh territory in Shan State, Myanmar.
.
The origin of the site is not clear. Some accounts attribute the foundation to the 3rd century BCE through King Ashoka of India, renowned for his role in spreading Buddhism. More certain seems, that the largest pagoda at 40m height was built during the 12th century under King Alaungsithu of Bagan, and that the largest number of pagodas dates from the 17th and 18th centuries.
.
Undoubted is, the site reflects centuries of devotion and craftsmanship, and rich spiritual and architectural heritage of the Pa-O ethnic group and Myanmar. Pagodas built from brick and intricately carved stucco, topped by tall spires with bells and Boddhi-leaf shaped plates dangling in the wind, high up in the hills of a beautiful scenic mountain landscape. Some Pagodas had Buddha images placed inside; some were reasonably maintained, with others showing various stages of decay with wild flowers and plants growing on them.
.
The site and region has long been inaccessible as restricted area under various military governments, but during my visit in 2015 (a period of experimentation with democratic reforms and relative opening and freedom) it was possible to arrange a tour with official guides. The area is probably off-limits again since the putsch in Feb-2021, as fighting between the army and resisting ethnic groups and militias has been reported in the state.
.
At the time of writing this here in May-2025 it's about time i process a few more images from this area, after the long overdue and much improved re-do of published shots is complete. I feel very privileged to have seen this wonderful site AND got some nice pics. Just wish I'd been a better photographer back then (and that my camera's AF had not malfunctioned too often :)
