Renovated Summer 2012

My improved shot was a photo of my daughter. The original photo I took of her which I shot from my left of her, showed a flower pot that really didn’t bring anything extra to the photo. Basically it didn’t add value. I wanted to have a photo shoot quality photo of my daughter without having backdrop. My daughter is an easy subject because she adores taking photos. I added our dog to the photo because everyone loves a cute kid with her dog. However, my dog wasn’t really cooperating and her fur could’ve used a good grooming. Also, my do wasn’t looking at the camera on the improved shot, but she was on the original, except for the glare from the flash. However, after playing around with PHOTOSHOP the last few weeks, I realize that my shot could be altered to fit what I’m looking for in improvements. In regards to digital photo quality, I believe that this shot is a pretty decent shot for an amateur photographer. My daughter is centered nicely in this shot and she is filling the frame. The colors of her outfit compliments the photo well why blending in with the color of the stairs. The focus is right on target for which I was shooting this shot. There’s also lines and patterns in the shot that in my opinion offers a better experience than a white backdrop that is typically used in photo shoots. I took this photo shortly after the sun was setting and it presented sort of a shadowy edge around my daughter that you can see on the stairs. As I was shooting these photos it was beginning to get cold and I wish that I was able to do more to get more shots of my daughter at more artistic angles. This was a great experience for me and I know that I will only get better. Digital photography has been evolving so much over the years. I worked at Walgreens and dealt with many photos over the years. I’ve taken photos with Polaroid, 110mm film, 35mm film, Kodak Advantix film and various levels of digital cameras. Never would I have thought that I would someday own a camera like I have and take high quality digital photos. When I purchased my camera I dreamed of being a great photography as a hobby. However, up until this class, it was just a dream. What better way to live a dream than creating it through a lens.

Hm, not really. Posture still not good - I look like a freakin' quotation mark while I'm supposed to move my hips forward, have my hands almost down in my crotch and my arms straight. Oh well, it just takes some practice.

Maybe it is my imagination but recently the air quality has improved in this part of Dublin and there is much less litter.
Dublin City Council refer to this as the ‘Irish Volunteer Monument in Phibsboro’.
As this monument was not included on Google Maps I recently added a pin so that you can locate it if you ever nearby.
For many years I could not gain full access to this memorial because the gates were usually locked which I assumed was to protect against anti-social behaviour. The monument was vandalised in the 1970’s, and the Volunteer stood for many years with no rifle in his hand, until his restoration in 1991. However it would now appear that Dublin City Council are adopting a different approach and are now leaving gates open twenty four hours per day and from what I seen so far indicates that vandalism has reduced … all that is needed now is a reduction in litter.
It was only recently that I noticed that this monument was originally build as a fountain but the water supply must have been removed as is often the case in Dublin.
The Irish Volunteer Monument commemorates members of the Dublin Brigade of the Irish Volunteers who fought and died during the Easter Rising (1916) and the War of Independence (1919-21). The monument depicts a soldier and below the soldier scenes from Irish mythology and ancient Irish history: the arrival of the Milesians (the first inhabitants of Ireland), Cuchulainn fighting at the ford and the death of King Brian Boru at Clontarf in 1014.
The limestone monument was created by Leo Broe (1899–1966) who himself had been a member of the Volunteers. It was unveiled on 19 February 1939.
It's not a matter of aesthetics, it's a matter of information design. All presentations are a work in progress.
