To appreciate this photo you have to zoom in close (the brown paper, for example) to see how the color works. It's not how a camera normally works, but it is how impressionist painters used color.
Impressionism; "a style characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color".
The name of the style derives from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satirical 1874 review. The name was originally meant as a derogatory term, but it was soon adopted by the painters, and by 1877 they were using it as an identifier of their style and their exhibitions.
The Post-Impressionists rejected Impressionism's concern with the spontaneous and naturalistic rendering of light and color. Instead they favored an emphasis on more symbolic content, formal order and structure. Similar to the Impressionists, however, they stressed the artificiality of the picture.
However, we photographers are obsessed with our megapixels in our pursuit to recreate the reality of a scene instead of creating images.

A lake in southern Indiana comes alive following an afternoon rainstorm. With nightfall the bullfrogs came out to declare the beauty of their pond.

- Fens, like bogs, are peatlands, but because they are fed by groundwater they are not so acidic as bogs.
These systems are often covered by grasses, sedges, rushes, and wildflowers. Over time, peat may build up and separate the fen from its groundwater supply. When this happens, the fen receives fewer nutrients and may become a bog.
- Purple moor-grass (Molinia caerulea) is usually abundant here.

- Een ven is een klein, meestal ondiep meer dat voorkomt op Pleistocene zandgronden. Vennen hebben wisselende waterstanden en zijn zelden groter dan enkele hectaren. Onder vennen worden uitsluitend natuurlijke wateren verstaan.
Drenthe is een van de provincies in Nederland waar vennen talrijk zijn. Hier is vaak sprake van een ondoordringbare keileemlaag dicht aan de oppervlakte, waardoor het venwater alleen door zijdelings wegzijgen opgenomen kan worden in het grondwater.
De twee belangrijkste concentraties zijn in de eerste plaats de Hondsrug, met de boswachterijen Schoonlo, Grollo en Hooghalen en daarnaast het Dwingelderveld en omgeving tussen Ruinen, Beilen en Havelte.
In de natuur en ecologie spelen vennen een belangrijke rol. Aan de rand van een ven treedt veelal een natuurlijk transitieproces op. Er groeien allerlei planten, waaronder veel mossen. Na afsterven ervan blijven resten achter die onder water nauwelijks vergaan, daardoor treedt verlanding op. In de loop van eeuwen kan zo een pakket hoogveen ontstaan. Dit veen is later bij turfwinning vaak weer weggegraven.
- De meest algemene plant met zijn karakteristieke hoge pollen in en om vennen is waarschijnlijk het pijpenstrootje, Lat.: Molinia coerulea, ook: Bente, Bentgras, Bentepollen, Piontetop, Raoi.
Pijpenstrootje profiteerde van de verhoogde stikstofdepositie gedurende de laatste decennia. Ook kon de soort zich uitbreiden door de ontwatering van veel natuurgebieden, aangezien de soort goed bestand is tegen wisselende waterstanden, in tegenstelling tot andere soorten van het heidelandschap, zoals dopheide en snavelbiezen. Daardoor zijn monotone pijpenstrootjesvelden ontstaan, met een dikke laag onverteerde plantenresten op de bodem.
Pijpenstrootje werd vroeger gebruikt om Goudse pijpen schoon te maken, vandaar de naam. Tevens werden stengels gebruikt als isolatiemateriaal onder dakpannen en voor vlechtwerk in bijv. bijenkorven.
