There are vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines (visual lines) seen in the wings; which convey movement by drawing the eye in multiple directions throughout the entirety of the wings. These lines are very thin and delicate in nature. In contrast, the vertical line of the body of the butterfly is thicker; conveying structure and strength.
In contrast, the vertical, black stripes (organic, visual lines) of the wings are thicker and add power to the delicate wings. The diagonal black lines of the perimeter of the wings are also thicker; conveying stability and adding movement; to draw one's view around the beauty of the entire creature and image. The lines of the perimeter also add value and texture to the butterfly (subject).
Interestingly, there are also organic, implied lines around the perimeter of the butterfly's wings (like mark-making). These are found within the yellow rectangular shapes, which add movement and visual interest...
