Water born diseases a big danger in refugee camps. Doctors Without Borders set up immunizations ASAP. Guide pointed out that people were often suspicious of the immunization because they feared HIV from the needles or thought they were being given drug trials. Yes, she said, pharmaceutical companies were doing that—performing human drug trials with untested drugs. If she wasn't an eyewitness, she would be called a conspiracist just for saying that. I had just learned from a Thai friend, whose uncle is a doctor that, human trials were being done in Thailand too. This exhibit had a lot of interesting tidbits to share that would normally be called leftist. I also didn't know that measles had been largely eradicated. I was one of the few people raising my hand when she asked if anyone had had measles. Measles used to be a passage of childhood, but not for under 30 set.

Description: “I call this photo ‘Laugh and the world laughs with you…’. I visited my daughter during her study abroad in Ireland, and as we biked through Inis Mor, we stopped to take photos of the amazing coastline. We were greeted by this friendly horse. I love this photo because it looks like he is laughing/smiling as we were, too. I also love the color of his mane. People pay to have highlights like that!”

This year, more than ever, Albertans should get immunized against influenza to protect their health and support the province’s fight against COVID-19.

Flu shots are now available free of charge at pharmacies and doctors’ offices across the province. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is also offering immunizations by appointment for those under five years old and those in their household.

This year’s flu season presents an additional challenge as Alberta responds to COVID-19. Immunization will help protect vulnerable Albertans, as well as decrease influenza-related tests, emergency room visits and hospitalizations during the pandemic.

The government has ordered a record 1.96 million doses of vaccine to help protect the health of Albertans.

“Getting immunized is more important now than ever before. It’s the best way to protect your health and the health of your friends and neighbours. It will also allow our health system to keep focusing on the fight against COVID-19 while we continue safely opening Alberta’s economy.”

Jason Kenney, Premier

“We’ve purchased a record amount of vaccine and made changes to ensure that getting your flu shot is as safe and easy as possible. By keeping cases of influenza low, we can make sure our health-care system can keep responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and all the other health-care needs that Albertans face every day.” said Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health.

“The flu shot won’t prevent COVID-19, but it will reduce your chances of getting sick with influenza and spreading it to others. While getting immunized helps, it’s also crucial to wash your hands often, cover coughs and sneezes and stay home when sick. If you have flu symptoms, book a test for COVID-19 as symptoms are similar. Let’s all do our part to keep one another safe.” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health. Happy Mothers Day to all...

Before I was a mom

I never tripped over toys

or forgot words to a lullaby.

I didn't worry whether or not

my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a mom

I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind

and my thoughts.

I slept all night.

Before I was a mom

I never held down a screaming child

so doctors could do tests.

Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night

watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a mom

I never held a sleeping baby just because

I didn't want to put her down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces

when I couldn't stop the hurt.

I never knew that something so small

could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a mom.

Before I was a mom

I didn't know the feeling of

having my heart outside my body..

I didn't know how special it could feel

to feed a hungry baby.

I didn't know that bond

between a mother and her child.

I didn't know that something so small

could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a mom

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night

every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.

I had never known the warmth,

the joy,

the love,

the heartache,

the wonderment

or the satisfaction of being a mom.

The 13th Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) will be celebrated from April 25th to May 2nd, 2015. The regional slogan for VWA 2015 is “Boost your power! Get vaccinated!” Vaccines are weakened or killed pathogens that help your immune system fight diseases. Vaccines do not make you sick, but prepare your body to fight off disease when exposed to full strength pathogens in the future. Vaccines boost the power of your immune system and fight off more than 20 different vaccine-preventable diseases. To read more on how vaccines boost your power, check out: www.paho.org/vwa/

That's what the nurse described it as.

I had to have my immunization updates.

Turns out I'm overdue A LOT OF THEM.

The last time I had the bulk of them was back in 1990, when I was merely 5 years old!

And then the update dosage of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccine was also required.

And tetanus.

And Polio.

And rubina.

And loads more OTHER STUFF...

I had my Hep A and some other one mixed together and shot in my left arm.

And I had my Hep B shot in my right arm.

My right arm took 3 days to recover.

It also cost me 25 pounds too. Humph. And will probably cost me more in the future when I need to get my next two. It's also funny, because, again, miraculously I JUST had that right amount in my purse. Funny that. God providing yet again.

Anyway. I need to return again next tuesday to see the nurse. And get my next set of jabs too. In both arms again. Gunna take me a while to recover.

But that's ok. I'm a trooper. And will be vaccine-ed against the deadly schtuff!

Did I tell you, I'm a trooper?

Happy (half-)Birthday Lukas!

Lukas is one roll-over closer to chasing his big sister around the house. He can now roll from front to back ad nauseum and has been found under our Christmas tree and under our chaise lounge after a few minutes of non-supervision. We figure he'll be crawling within a week or two.

Here are a few other milestones/details:

- has sampled the gamut of cereals and is moving on to fruits & veggies (carrots tonight)

- is wearing 12-month-old clothing

- loves clutching and grabbing onto things (including hair, ears and lips)

- puts everything into his mouth

- absolutely loves splashing in the bathtub (we've started putting Makayla and Lukas in the bath together)

- still no teeth

- is still doing reasonably well at sleeping through the night

- has a much better attitude than Makayla when it comes to going potty (Lukas has pooed on the potty) ;' )
