This is a monster of trees. I remember looking up at this same tree five, ten, even twenty years ago. To me it was (and is) always magical, I couldn't help but touch it. Sometimes when you touch a tree, you can feel its energy. Try it sometime. :)

Killruddery House and Gardens

Our NZ Pohutukawa Tree (Metrosideros excelsa) is at least 150 years old and grows at the bottom of our driveway. The width of the trunk matches my height of 164 cm (5ft 4in). New Zealand's oldest known Pohutukawa grows at the furthermost northern tip of NZ at Cape Reinga and is said to be at least 800 years old.

Pohutukawa (pronounced Po hoo too car wa) have the ability to sprout root systems as and where needed. Their adventitious roots form out of trunks and branches and are able to grow in air over surfaces as they search for crevices, pockets of soil and moisture. They can be seen growing strongly, both in lush green forests and along the craggy rock faces of windy sea edge cliffs.

Yesterday, I went for a walk in a Toronto neighbourhood, near Bloor St and just enjoyed seeing these tall trees and looking at how the light hits them and changes everything!
