When seeking guidance, trees offer a sense of calm. They stand before us as symbols of patience and wisdom.

A new week after one full week of scorching 🔥 weather, we needed a break! Happy Bench Monday!
▪That amazing double trunk tree is the Cunninghamia lanceolata (China Fir). A conifer, evergreen tree, 50-80 ft (15-25 m) tall in landscapes, may reach 150 ft (50 m) tall in native range, conical or pyramidal in shape. Often multitrunked, bark color ranges from dark gray to reddish brown, longitudinal fissures, cracking into irregular flakes revealing an aromatic, yellowish or reddish inner bark.▪
It's very difficult for me to thank everyone individually, so thank you all very much for your visit and your comment, much appreciated.
"You can live years next door to a big pine tree, honored to have so venerable a neighbor, even when it sheds needles all over your flowers or wakes you, dropping big cones onto your deck at still of night."

“The way to love the world is to know the world! But cities are not the world; churches and mosques are not the world; skyscrapers, airports are not the world! The tree is the world, the birds are the world, the blowing wind is the world, and the waves are the world!
If you want to love the world, see the real world, that is, the world which we did not build, the world that was here long before us!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan
Everybody needs time to reflect and contemplate, and the most inspirational and peaceful place to do so is in nature.

Perhaps once a beautiful tree, now it lies in the form of a terrifying beast on the forest floor. 😉

Dead or dying trees don’t always need to be removed, if they are located in a forested area or away from people and structures. These trees can serve as a home and refuge for woodpeckers and other wildlife. In addition, its nutrients enrich the soil near decaying wood, helping new plants to grow and keeping living ones healthy as the nutrients are reabsorbed.
I saw this tree in the park last year and felt so sad. No signs of life, it was rotting and full of fungi. Trees are my favorite gifts from nature.
Who else goes to the woods to find peace only to discover themselves in the process? I find forests unclutter the mind with each breath the trees afford me.
― Michael Poeltl
This is one from the archives. It was taken on the Oregon coast - a long walk through the forest and ended up at the beach.

Autumn is beginning to show its colors, but most of the foliage is still green. From the top of the hill you can see the small fishing dock and behind the fence, part of the tunnel wall.

In autumn I have always called these Sumac leaves, tongues of fire because of their intense red color and shape. They always stand out wherever they are.

Looking up at the top of this old tree is difficult. Between the texture of the bark and the intricate branches of the tree, your vision becomes lost the more you try to focus towards the top.
"An impressive tree by any standard, the Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboidesis) relatively carefree and fast-growing. Its fine, feathery leaves are certainly a standout feature, and even though this tree is deciduous, it produces rounded cones. The dawn redwood was long thought to be extinct — with evidence of its existence found among dinosaur fossils — until it was discovered alive and well in a rural, mountainous area of China. It is now grown worldwide."

More dew, fog — it's all about that dew point when the temperature drops in early hours — and this morning, more webs and bokeh. About as shot, except for crop.

“A cherry tree was coming into bloom, shooting out a froth of sugar-pink blossoms. She could see from its size and the gnarled branches that it was a mature tree, yet still capable of putting on such a wonderful show.
A new beginning every spring, even from an old tree.”
― Maggie Alderson, The Scent of You

Such is the dichotomy of forests. Even the smallest remembers what it was to cover nations, and the shadows they contain will whisper the knowledge to anyone who listens.
― Seanan McGuire
Walking through here, I felt like I was in the midst of a dense forest, when in actual fact, it was a treed pathway beside a duck pond. It still had the same magical feel for me as being in a thick forest.
This photo is from last year. Spring is just around the corner, next week. While I was driving my car, I saw that some cherry trees started to bloom. I'm waiting for them to fully bloom, but these artic cold and windy days make it very difficult...lot of flowers on the ground.

It's sometimes difficult to photograph in the summer where the greens of the trees create a uniformity in the scene. Look for contrasts and light that isolates a tree. "I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself. "
Edward Steichen
We pass this lovely tree on our early morning walks and she is such a beauty. I often wonder where her family went, or if she has always been alone.
Not ashamed to admit I give her a hug now and again. I am in awe of her.
The birds love her canopy and I'm sure she provides a home for many invertebrates as well.
Not only is she a magnificent sight, but she also delights us with an uplifting lemon scent which we can sometimes smell from quite a distance before reaching her.
Her trunk is smooth, white/silver/pale pink and slightly mottled. Copper-coloured bark is shed in thin flakes.
Perhaps therefore, Corymbia citriodora, the lemon-scented gum. Native and endemic to this area and up into Queensland.
She must be 30 plus m in height.

“Yesterday is but a dream, tomorrow but a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this day. Such is the salutation to the dawn.” -Sanskrit Proverb quotes
