Missy's entry for the THIS IS BLYTHE "Heroes" photo contest...this is Missy's doll, Bunbun McElroy, as "Amy Sedaris"...it's an homage to the image inside of the dust jacket to Amy's fab book, "I Like You"....(Missy changed the color of the background from white to green in Photoshop)
I had some friends over for brunch on my patio this morning and I made the cinnamon sour cream coffee cake out of "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence" by Amy Sedaris. I'm not a big fan of walnuts, so I used a streusel topping instead of the walnut topping that the recipe called for. It was SO GOOD, and the sour cream makes the cake very moist. Seriously. BEST COFFEE CAKE EVER.
For FGR....confession time
my second confession is that i should have been doing hwk instead of posting and playing on flickr...

Spaghetti squash tossed with olive oil, salt & pepper, with parmesean, fresh basil and meatballs (I always just use the recipe in the Amy Sedaris book for these). I wanted a very "fall" dinner to go with the commencement of Katie's Autumnal Film Festival (ha!).
Ox and the Jeero's were watching Team America on DVD last night so you can imagine the amount of little laughs that they were producing the whole way through the film.
This morning myself and Mireille went to the bakery to pick up some croissants and quarkballchen for breakfast.
While we were sorting everything out we heard Ox saying "I like you, you have balls, I like balls" to both Jeero's who were standing with a quarkballchen each.
They're mad this lot!!!
Can't keep Johnny down

This clip has no picture unfortunately. I turned the movie feature on my phone and captured a couple seconds of Sadie talking to me while I was away for two weeks on a trip last month.
The cutest thing about it is that she was slightly mad at me for being away in the first place.
Every layover in an airport on the way home, I just sat around listening to this over and over again. <3
Imagine you are floating along on a cloud of joy. A jar of rainbows swings delicately from a multicolored cord of yarn tied around your neck.
You look and see a giant bubble floating your way. Encapsulated in the swirls of color is a pretty little bird. As you look closer you realize that the bird is actually a silly, lighthearted girl in a bird costume strumming a ukulele.
The girl leans in, tells you her name is Sunshine and begins to fill your ears with catchy songs of love and life, mixed with equal parts seriousness and ridiculousness. As this songstress tantalizes you into a musical web of bliss you begin to notice that other bubbles have begun to congregate around you, and just as you least expect it, the bubbles begin to quiver and pop quite unexpectedly.
Happy musicians and their instruments spill out around you. Their calamity has toppled your cloud and caused you to tumble through the sky. The melody swiftly sweeps you up and and gently deposits you upon the sands of a soft warm beach. As you dig your toes into the deliciously cool underbelly of the sand you notice the setting sun as it explodes into a prism of color which is reflected and refracted upon the surface of the water below.
You take a big breath in and as you exhale, the sounds of your own laughter mingle with those of the song that has now taken residence in your brain. Excitement fills your body as you sway and dance to the rhythm. You feel strong, empowered, inspired to love and share your smiling, dancing joy with all who surround you. You’ve just been given a big musical hug by i like you. Because friend, that’s what we do.
We hope that you get these songs stuck in your head and they bring a perpetual smile to your lips and a lightness in your heart. It’s really a small thing that we are sharing here, in our humble attempt to make a big difference.
And, since we all know, live music is an experience – we hope you will come out and experience life with us. Because, we really do like you. :)
~i like you.

When I read it, I couldn't help but imagine Sunshine in the bubble and the boys all looking up at her in the clouds. So this is what i came up with! :)
Recipe from I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence by Amy Sedaris. Pasta with caramelized onions, Greek yogurt, parmesan and roasted pine nuts. (Made to take to Easter dinner tomorrow.)
Lyrics from The Blow's song 'Let's Play Boys Chase Girls'.
My scanner is still in New Zealand so I'm photographing my sketches and colouring them from those photos at the moment.
Part of my ongoing Doodle-a-day project.

P.s. you have to press the red button and have your loudspeakers turned on ;-) Hugs..
Stack of promotional audiobook sampler CDs from Amy Sedaris' forthcoming (October 16, 2006) hospitality cookbook, "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence." Amy said, "Do whatever you want with 'em." So I made some coasters out of the cardboard sleeves.
Donation jar (at top of picture), lighter ("poof it's magic"), Jerri "pee on mee" pill box, stash boxes.
I made a number of hand painted compliments, exclamations, and gratuities that are now for sale at i-like-you (Mpls) Give the gift that keeps on giving!!

Guy's brother will be house sitting while we're away so we've been trying to fix all the little quirks to the house that we've noticed while we've been here.
One of which was the stove which was labelled with a solitary "H" when we arrived and which we have figured out through trial and burnt garlic breads.
Today I embraced my inner Amy Sedaris, grabbed my label maker and set to. Marvel at the results!
