The stairs to the top are very steep and difficult to climb. According to one of the versions, the name of the mountain is connected with the fact that, having climbed this mountain, people sighed with relief.

Once upon a time, during my studies at the institute, when the modern one, the so-called "Castle of Richard the Lionheart", was an ordinary communal anthill, and the "tourist" stairs had not yet been built, a friend brought me to the top of Uzdyhalnitsa.

It was at midnight, after a good time in the restaurant of the Dnipro hotel. We climbed the wooden stairs inside the house, on each floor of which a light bulb barely flickered, there were old chairs and buckets. All this was very reminiscent of "Voronyacha Slobidka" from the famous novel by Ilf and Petrov. The stairs led to the very top - it was a courtyard where trees grew, clothes dried on a line, there was a bench and a table. And from where the "fastest" panoramic view of Podil, shining with lights, opened. It was a warm and beautiful Ukrainian, almost Gogol night at the end of May. I will never forget the impression I received. My friend's name was Zakon Kuruchbekov, he came to study in Kyiv from Uzbekistan (then the Uzbek SSR). When asked who showed him this place, he just smiled.

Колись, в часи мого навчання в інституті, коли сучасний, так званий «Замок Річарда Левове Серце», був звичайним комунальним мурашником, а «туристичні» сходи ще не побудували, на верхівку Уздихальниці мене привів товариш.

Було це опівночі, після гарно проведеного часу у ресторані готелю «Дніпро». Піднімалися ми дерев’яними сходами всередині будинку на кожному поверсі якого ледь жевріла лампочка, стояли старі стільці і відра. Все це дуже нагадувало «Воронячу слобідку» зі славетного роману Ільфа і Петрова. Сходи вивели на самий верх - це був внутрішній двір де росли дерева, сохла на мотузці білизна, була лавочка і столик. І з цього дворика відкривався «самашедший» панорамний вид на Поділ, що сяяв вогнями. Була тепла і гарна українська, майже гоголівська, ніч кінця травня. Ніколи не забуду отриманого враження. Мого товариша звали Закон Куручбеков, він приїхав навчатися в Киів з Узбекистану (тоді Узбекська ССР). На питання, хто показав йому це місце, він лише посміхнувся.

«Поезжайте в Киев и спросите там, что делал Паниковский до революции, и вам скажут, что до революции Паниковский был слепым. Я выходил в очках и с палочкой на Крещатик и просил какого-нибудь господина почище помочь бедному слепому перейти улицу. На другом тротуаре у него уже не хватало часов или бумажника. Я платил городовому на углу Крещатика и Прорезной пять рублей в месяц, и меня никто не трогал» — именно так говорил Паниковский в романе «Золотой теленок».

Continuing with pictures from a fantastic "fog-morning" in a small villige called Pershyttan. Iron production in Pershyttan started as early as the 14th century and continued in various forms until 1967.

IC 2013 verlässt soeben den Bahnhof Illertissen auf dem Weg Richtung Altenstadt. Illertissen wird vom mechanischen Stellwerk Ilf gesteuert. 2008 wurde Ilf mit einem kleinen Dr S2 Pult ergänzt, die mechanische Verschlusslogik wurde nicht ersetzt, sodass das Dr S2 nur die Steuerung der Weichen und Lichtsignale übernimmt. Die Weichen des Dr S2 werden mechanisch geriegelt und damit Signalanhängig gemacht. Die Riegel sind mit Hebelsperren ausgerüstet und damit ihrerseits vom Dr S2 abhängig. Durch diese Maßnahmen konnte 2008 der Ww auf Ilw eingespart werden.

Ein weiteres Formsignal-Idyll findet sich in Illertissen an der Illertalbahn zwischen Ulm und Memmingen. Vermutlich nach genauer Wirtschaftlichkeitsrechnung wurde anno 2008 das nördliche Stellwerk stillgelegt und die Form- auf Lichtsignale umgebaut. Das südliche Stellwerk Illertissen Ilf aus dem Jahr 1939 beherbergt hingegen nach wie vor den Fdl der nun alle acht Signale und vier Weichen von dort aus steuern darf.

Weiteres Personal sitzt vermutlich im Bahnhof in dem Bahnsteig 2 nur niveaugleich erreicht werden kann.

Pünktlich und damit ohne jeglichen kreuzungsbedingten Halt donnert am 4. September 2020 der "Illertalexpress" (IC 2013 "Allgäu" mit verkürztem Laufweg Stuttgart-Oberstdorf) vorbei an der Vogtmühle und am im Stil der späten 80er-Jahre beschilderten Stellwerk.

Während der rote Flitzer des Fdl häufig vor Ort zu sehen ist dürfte der Einsatz der Karlsruher Leih-Lok 218 484 (vor 218 487) in Ulmer Diensten mittlerweile wieder Vergangenheit sein.

Die Aufnahme entstand vom Hochstativ. Es bedarf mindestens einer Leiter, um über einen an den Gleisen stehenden Gastank hinwegschauen zu können.

Since Aurizon’s take over of the One Rail Australia business, it’s become increasingly uncommon to see two CLF/CLP class locomotives paired up without other motive power outside of local transfers and intrastate grain traffic, so seeing two CL’s on an Intermodal service was a welcomed change as CLP16/CLF6 run Aurizon’s 6MX1 from North Dynon to Spencer Jct via Port Pirie through the locality of Calomba on Saturday the 21st of December 2024.

 

After arrival in Port Pirie, this train will shunt to enable fellow Aurizon Intermodal service 6SP1 to arrive and add the In-Line Fuelling wagon, the Crew Car and the loading for the journey West to Forrestfield. The Streamliners and a sole flat wagon containing ILF tanks will then run to Spencer Jct and stable to form 4114S back to Adelaide with 7PS1’s loading on Monday.

 

Hired power from Railfirst Asset Management dominates this train on most services however reliability issues with the GL and CM classes has seen Aurizon’s locomotives featured more regularly in the month since I photographed this service last. It’s expected that further orders of ACD class units due to arrive during 2025 will enable the two GL class locomotives to be dehired while the CM’s will remain, further Aurizon locomotives from the Eastern Bulk business unit are rumoured to arrive during the new year for traffic such as MX/XM services.

Elbląg [ˈɛlblɔnk] (Speaker Icon.svg listen) (German: Elbing (Ltspkr.png listen); Lithuanian: Elbinga) is a city in northern Poland with 127,892 inhabitants (2006). It is the capital of Elbląg County and has been assigned to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship since 1999. Before then it was the capital of Elbląg Voivodeship (1975–1998) and a county seat in Gdańsk Voivodeship (1945–1975). The city is a port on the river Elbląg which flows into the Vistula Lagoon about 10 km to the north, thus giving the city access to the Baltic Sea via the Russian-controlled Strait of Baltiysk.

 

It was first mentioned as "Ilfing" in The Voyages of Ohthere and Wulfstan which was written in Anglo-Saxon in King Alfred's reign using information from a Viking who had visited the area.

 

During the Middle Ages, the Old Prussian settlement of Truso was located at Lake Drużno near the current site of Elbląg in historical Pogesania; the settlement burned down in the 10th century.[1] The Teutonic Knights conquered the region and the inhabitants dispersed in the process. The Teutonic Order built a castle and founded Elbing at the lake with a population mostly from Lübeck; today the much smaller lake does not reach the city any more. After the defeat of the Teutonic Knights and the destruction of the castle by the inhabitants, the city successively was under the sovereignty of the Polish crown (1466), the Kingdom of Prussia (1772), and Germany (1871). Elbing was heavily damaged in World War II, its German citizens were expelled upon the war's end. The city became part of Poland in 1945 and was repopulated with Polish citizens.

'Twas a dark and stormy day...

 

I didn't quite manage to keep the rain and the spray from the falls off of my lens, but this one didn't have too many splatters on the lens.

 

I'm really trying hard to not let my photography go dormant in the winter. It's tough to do when it's raining and cold, but I got out there, and took some pictures despite the weather.
