So, it's day three already, and I decided to put in a quick shot of some colourful paper clips...
...only it took me a lot longer than expected to get the colours I wanted without a whole lot of nasty shadows!
I must have tried about four different lighting set-ups before settling on the one that produced this!
Anyway, I'm quite happy with the results, even if it did take me longer than expected!
I guess that's another thing you can rely on a 365 project for - taking a whole lot more time than you'd expected to take even the most simplest of shots!
Oh well, only another 362 more to go...
I was quite pleased with this one, and thought it looked a bit like a computer generated image!
It's actually a milk drop, coloured with food colouring, falling into a shot glass full of milk! The droplet is a bit dark because the two flashes I used, to the left and right, were a little too far behind the droplet to illuminate the front of it, but, like I say, I rather like the outcome anyway!
I'm a bit annoyed with myself tonight, as I've managed to break the valve I use to regulate how quickly the droplets fall from my water drop rig! It's not an expensive part, only a few pennies, but I haven't got a replacement, and I won't be able to get hold of another one until after the weekend!
This could present a problem for my 365 day project and the current month of liquids I'm shooting!
Oh well, these things are sent to try us! :)
I spent the whole day in the garden today, catching up on springtime tasks that I missed doing while I had my cellulitis!
I potted on seedlings, sowed more seeds and planted bulbs! I also constructed a new cold frame, and filled it with lettuce, herb and chilli seeds! There should certainly be plenty to photograph when summer arrives!
All of this activity got me aching all over, so I wasn't looking forward to standing over my water drop rig for an hour while I coaxed a water drop collision from it!
To get around this, I decided to go for a new style of shot, which if nothing else, is colourful!
I've been playing with this type of colourful rippling for a while, and I hope you like it!
If I've stopped aching tomorrow, I'll be more patient and try and catch a collision within the colours! :)
Sorry for posting and running (or shuffling away) - I'll try and catch up with everyone tomorrow, if not earlier...

So, for today's water drop shot, I was playing with my lighting system, and was experimenting with a new drip tray that I use to catch the falling drops!
Also, I've now progressed my water drop rig so I can use two external flashguns plus the on-board camera flash!
I still need to tinker with the system to get it more to my liking, and when I've got it exactly how I want it, I'll write about it on my blog!
So, again, today I was after a nice water crown shot, and although I got more than one keeper, I preferred this little gem!
Tomorrow, I promise, I'll post that water crown! Honest! :)
For those who are interested, I used a gold gel on one of the external flashguns to get the two tone effect here, which I quite like!
I'm staying with my self-imposed reflection theme this week!
I thought I'd also try and build on the high key theme of last week and try and introduce a little bit of colour into the water surface - which was achieved by doubling up two dark blue gels on a highly placed flashgun!
I'm finding it more difficult to generate water drop collisions though, as the space available for introducing the water drop catching cup seems to be getting less and less! See the video of my set-up for more details!
I may have to increase the height of my water drippy thing to compensate! Stay tuned! :)

I made a small modification to my water supply valve today, and this shot was a quick test to see if I could release more than one drop at a time!
It came out waaaaay better than I could have imagined - so much so that it became my shot of the day! :)
It may be raining, but at least it's making things look quite pretty! :)

I had another unusual encounter with a water drop collision today!
This one occurred a good two or three inches above where I'd normally be expecting to see one! That pink horizontal line in the background is the edge of my drip tray, and I normally catch the collision well below that mark!
However, in this one, the water spike seems to be quite thin, and has soared into the air! I'm not 100% sure why this is, as I have very few variables I can change in my set-up, and I thought I had a good handle on what changing all of them did! Obviously I don't!!
One thing I've been trying to do is vary the size of the droplets being dropped, but I've not been having much luck in doing that - maybe on this occasion I did?
Oh well, I wish it didn't have the horrible drip tray line in the background, but as it's another first for me, it had to be my picture of the day! :)

This is probably my best water crown shot to date...
I was quite pleased with the height of the sides and also the reflection! In fact it would have been my shot of the day if I hadn't subsequently captured my flying saucer / bowler hat image! :)
I couldn't resist uploading one more from today's water drop session! In this one I tried three different coloured flash gels, although I don't think it worked as well as using only two!
However, I'd never captured a torus like shape before, so was quite pleased about that!

I think I may be having one of my funny turns again!
Every time I look at this, I think I can see either a tortoise with a jet pack strapped to its back instead of its usual shell, or sometimes I see a cannon!
Either way I quite like it as it's quite an interesting water formation!
What do you see?

This week's Macro Mondays group theme is Guess What It Is?: 08/07/2013.
What a great theme!
Those of you who've followed me for a while know that I'm quite partial to this type of macro guessing game! In fact back in 2011 I did a whole month's worth of images you had to guess as part of my 365 day project!
Anyway, this is today's effort! I'll post the answer tomorrow!
HMM! :)

I'm finding it trickier and trickier to find interesting abstract images for my Abstract Nature theme, and I'm only nine images in!
However, I thought these hydrangea bract buds fit the bill nicely!
I've got about ten more shots in mind, then I'm definitely going to be struggling!
I'll keep persevering though! :)

Having spent a lot of time, effort and money to try and eradicate this most persistent weed from my garden, as you can see, it hasn't been a complete success!
I still have to take a journey around the garden every day, and douse any new shoots I see with weed killer! So far, I've been winning the battle, but as the weather gets better, I fear I may soon be on the losing side of the war!
I was quite surprised to see this most invasive weed growing in Exbury Gardens, where it looked to be taking over some parts of the more less kempt areas!
Oh well!
Sorry for posting and running yet again! I've been caught up in real life again, so my flickr time has suffered! I'll try and get to everyone when I get some free time! :)

I was very pleased with the clarity of this one!
Another thing I was pleased with was seeing my letter was the letter of the week in this week's Amateur Photographer magazine (see below)! They even printed some of my water splash images to illustrate my point about coloured lighting gels!
How fantastic was that? :)

Wow! After 89 consecutive days of shooting water drop splashes and collisions, I've finally broken free of my water drippy thing, and have shot something completely different for my 365 day project!
This is one of my lilies, either an oriental or asiatic variety (let me know if you know which!), showing a spurt of new growth since the days got a bit warmer here!
I rather liked the pattern the leaves were making!
I'm not sure I'm going to have a theme this month, although it could well be In My Garden!

I think I may have invented a new type of water drop collision, as I've never seen anything quite like this before! :)
For the first time this week I had a bit of energy to play with my water drop rig! I started playing with the angle at which the water drop valve releases water, and also provided the water feed bottle with a bit more water than usual!
After a few test shots, I started to get results like this!
I think I'm all caught up on commenting, but if I've missed you, I'm sorry, it wasn't intentional, and I'll catch up with you next time around! :)
All of this flickr excitement has exhausted me, so I'm off for a lie down...

I've always loved shooting abstract water shots, but they never seem to get any easier to time or get in focus!
To help with this, I'm currently building a rig to help me get more consistent results! Hopefully I'll get it finished before my month of liquids is complete!
This is the first time I've tried this type of shot with my new camera, so it's good to know we're still both capable of shooting this type of shot! :)
This one reminded me of a pyramid of acrobats all standing on each others shoulders, only in this abstract version, there only seems to be one guy at the bottom, and none of the acrobats have any legs!
In medical related news, after a visit to the doctor this morning, I've been prescribed two different types of penicillin to attack the nastiness that is my cellulitis! Hopefully this will mean me feeling much better in the next couple of days!
In the meantime I've got quite a lot of catching up to do...

I seem to be in a bit of a green rut at the moment, that being the predominant colour of my last three pictures of the day!
I have to say thanks to Janet! Her recent poppy image inspired me to get in close for today's Abstract Nature endeavours! :)
Sorry for posting and running - I'll try and catch up with everyone this evening! I'm off to do a bit of long overdue gardening! :)

I was going to have a month off themes this month, but it turned out that the hot weather brought my garden to life!
So, Flowers were the order of the day! I couldn't believe how many different flowers I had!
All but five of the photos are taken in my garden, and only three of them are weeds - but they're pretty weeds! :)
I've no idea what I'm going to shoot next month! Watch this space, as they say!
