Question I -IE-

Show us an activity you enjoy doing. Tell us how you think it contributes to your personal and professional development

My goal is to point out through this photo the opportunities that sometimes give us some sports such as the ski , which in this case is my favorite and the one that I enjoy practicing the most. It is a real privilege, as it is well observed in the image, to be able to reach the top of these mountains and in the distance see the sea. It is a priceless experience.

More than an activity I really enjoy practicing, skiing is a way of life that I have been enjoying for a long time since childhood. Fortunately, in Granada (my hometown and where I've been living since I was born) it is located one of the best ski resorts in Europe known as “Estación de Esquí de Sierra Nevada”. Luckily, this has made me committed to the practice of this sport since I was little and at the moment I cant live without.

Skiing for me is a way to escape the everyday life to which one is subjected week after week. Going up to the mountain, a little small world up there where everything is happiness, good vibrations, joy and a wide range of positive attributes that describe this sport and this skiing resort. Practicing this sport has encouraged my desire to excel in this discipline, which requires the technique and dedication from the first day that someone decides to start riding. Once you learn, you just have to enjoy it. Being able to carry out this hobby today, means a quite remarkable personal development, it helps me maintaining myself in an emotional stability and tranquility that is hardly found today. It helps me to make decisions, to break with the everyday life and dedicate a few days to oneself. In short, it makes you a better person.

As to my professional development, Sierra Nevada gave me this year the opportunity to join as a volunteer the Ski and Snowboard World Championships that took place in this ski resort. I was fortunately selected for this program, and was able to enjoy that enriching experience in many aspects. I was responsible of the goal of my section (Halfpipe). I never thought that someone could rely on me such a big responsability and afterwards prometed me after seeing me working and they did it. They truly trusted me in being able to carry out this event with such importance as it has been the SN 2017 World Cup. Therefore, this has caused a great professional development in my life. I was able to work hand by hand with well known skiing and snowboarding professionals. I am very thankful of this experience, it has been great to train many different aspects of teamwork and leadership, also gave us the knowledge of how members of an event of such prestige worked, and I have highly improved my level of English.

Above all, It has been a lifetime practicing this sport and I hope to continue doing it in the future.

In labor terms, I would like to dedicate myself to this sport during sometime in the future. I would like to train professionally so that I can obtain the specific qualification to teach, and therefore to being able to work during the skiing season . There are plenty of opportunities here in Sierra Nevada and I would like to take advantage of them once I complete my master. So that the population can have the chance to know one of the most beautiful places in my city.

Question C.-IE-

Describe a time when you took a great risk. What was the outcome?

One of the biggest risks that I have had to face in my life is shown by these two images. Both photographs, show some of the hardest moments I've endured in the mountain fortunately the outcome was positive. More specifically, I was working in the ski and snowboard World Championships wich took place in Sierra Nevada this year 201. I was in charge of the goal of Halfpipe (mode I was assigned throughout the competition). Due to the lack of volunteer staff in one of the championship events, they needed our help in preparing the track on the day of the race. I volunteered along with more colleagues in my group. At first if the weather conditions allowed us, everything should have gone the way it was prepared.

We had an early call at 6am, we had to be already on track with the material prepared around 6:30 in the morning. The day came, it had not stopped snowing all night, yet the test continued and our help was still needed. We agreed to go up and we assumed that the conditions were adverse (there was still no light, it continued to snow, there was a notable drop in temperatures, a lot of wind and bad visibility conditions) Our work was in general terms: some of us prepared the track for the classification and others waited next to a specialized technician close to the doors in case it moved, we had to place it in the right spot. They were very basic tasks at first, but that day the storm made them really difficult to develop. We had to wait for two hours sitting under the snowstorm to fix the track, once it was ready we had to go down next to the technician one by one through the different doors and place ourselves next to each door. It was complicated because of the poor visibility that was making it impossible for us to carry out our task properly and besides all this we had to add the low temperature there was that day which froze our hands and face. In the end, the competition was canceled because it was impossible to continue. All this series of events that I have narrated here made me count it today and rejoice in some way of having been there and of not having surrendered to the first. It made me overtake myself to the very thing I thought I would never do. The fear that day we had to leave it behind and trust ourselves and believe that we could do it despite the poor conditions that accompany us.

In the end, the result was to show the great work we could all carry out as a team. Each of us knew how to give the best of himself/herself and by adding these actions we all did a successful job that day. After this experience I learned mainly what it is to work in group under that level of pressure in which none of us is comfortable and yet the task is carried out satisfactorily.

Recently, Half Dome has become famous for its appearance on Mac OSX wallpaper, which has given fame not only to the rock formation but also to Yosemite National Park. A lot of people don’t know it, but it was an inspiration for the logo of the brand North Face.

Not every sunset on the surface of Half Dome is the same, not all of them are as is impressive as would be expected. Sometimes, the light doesn't reflect that much and sometimes the color of the surface is opaque. Capturing the sunset at Half Dome was one of the things I was looking forward to the most on my Yosemite National Park visit. On the first attempt of taking the picture, the sunset wasn’t as magical as I would’ve expected and it was somehow uninteresting.

The next day, I tried again to take the picture from a different spot and this time, the sunset was magical and the colors were very warm and the reflection was fascinating. Not every attempt of taking a picture is successful and I’ve learned through time that life gives you new opportunities everyday and it doesn’t matter how frustrating a situation might be, a positive attitude is required to try again and have no fear of failing.

Camping at the Acatenango Volcano crater has been one of the best experiences of my life, even though the way up was challenging and exhausting, the whole adventure was worth it. The last eruption of this volcano was more than 40 years ago, right now it is considered an inactive one and that’s why it is possible to camp at the crater. The peak of the Acatenango is one of the highests in Central America (C.A.), from the top you can see with bare eyes the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala City, Antigua Guatemala (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Tajumulco Volcano (the highest peak in C.A.).

It is possible to walk around the crater, there are many viewpoints to go to and the view at each one is stunning. It is mind blowing to see that there’s no snow at that elevation, because it is almost 4,000 m above sea level and the peak is above the clouds. The Fire Volcano is the Acatenango’s neighbour and the distance between them is around 3 km,. I was extremely lucky: the timing of the adventure couldn’t have been better, since the Fire Volcano was erupting all day and all night nonstop that day and It was a great opportunity to watch front row an amazing mother nature show. Watching the lava rivers flowing at night was impressive and the noise of each eruption was sensational and striking.

As in life, in business and also in photography I believe in lucky strikes. When I took this picture I thought about the remarkable shape of the crater and how this would look as a black and white silhouette photograph. I wasn’t aware of how identified I would feel with this specific picture until I was checking all the photos I took on the computer and I noticed this person standing alone and separated from the group. I immediately named the picture “Think Different”.

One of the things that I try the most as an enthusiastic photographer is to take pictures from a unique point of view or separated from the crowds. Thinking differently has helped me in photography and in my personal and professional life to see things from different points of view which has led me to new ideas and unique results. That’s why I felt identified with the person who stood apart from the rest, enjoying the moment and watching the landscape from a different point of view by himself. I consider this picture a lucky strike because I didn’t see the person who was alone in the frame and it turned out to be a creative and peculiar one.

Since I was little boy I remember being amazed by the Golden Gate bridge and I always wondered how the people who built it were able to do it. The bridge is amazing and iconic and there's no doubt about why it is amongst one of the wonders of the modern world. I can't think of another bridge as marvelous as this one, not even Tower Bridge or Brooklyn Bridge.

This is one of the pictures that I planned the most before taking it. I took into consideration the location by searching in Google Maps for nice beaches; the time of the sunset in San Francisco so I knew I had to be there on time to be able to find a good spot to set up my camera; and I already knew that I wanted to use a Neutral Density filter that allowed me to make a long exposure to get that silky smooth water effect.

When the moment of taking the picture finally arrived, it was quite easy for me to find the spot and set up my camera to capture the moment. As a result of the preparation, I was able to get the picture I wanted on the first shot.

This photo is part of my application for the Master in Management at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain.

It refers to question J: "How do you imagine social interaction within 10 years, taking into consideration the impact of technology on human relations?"

Given the circumstances we live in today it will not take long until we will not see those around any more. Postcards will become a relic of the past of social interaction. As much as I believe in them being the most beautiful souvenir to be received, it appears to be inevitable that postcards will disappear. The future holds some magnificent inventions for us. Already today, we can talk and see one another, though thousands of miles apart, yet it may feel like we sit right opposite each other. Facetime, Skype, Google Hangout & Co. making it possible. The reach of the internet will extend to uncovered grounds and new engineering will make it faster than ever, as companies have just started to roll out 4G coverage.

It is certainly very difficult to imagine what impact technology will have on human relations. I imagine it to bring us closer in a digital sense, but drive us apart in the psychical reality. At presenet technology allows us to apply for jobs, find a girlfriend or order anything from an apple to a Zippo lighter online, hence no psychical social interaction is required. It will probably not take long until one can complete his entire educational career at home or on the go. Another interesting example is a new invention that allow couples to have virtual sex whilst being at different locations through vibrating underwear.

In any way, it is going to be an exiting time ahead of us and how we are going to interact with one another. Though one thing is for sure, less postcards will be send around the globe.

Before my first visit to Yosemite National Park I was really excited about it and I looked for hundreds of pictures so I could get an idea of what the park is really like. When I arrived, I couldn't believe the huge granite walls and the height of the trees, it was something unreal and it seemed like the whole landscape was an art painting.

There's no technology around and the cell reception is quite poor. In other words, it is the greatest place to hit the reset button and connect with nature. After I set up my tent, I decided to go for my first hike across the Valley. I was eager to know the surroundings to be able to take pictures.

While hiking, I found this viewpoint, where I was able to see El Capitan, Merced River and The Three Brothers. I sat for a moment and relished the view, I remembered that I saw several pictures taken at the same place, but this moment was unique, I was there.

Photography has taught me that there are millions of ways of capturing a moment and there's no secret recipe for the perfect picture. The most important thing to do is to follow your instincts, give your personal signature to the picture, take risks and if the picture isn't the best there's always something new to learn from your past experiences that might be helpful in the future.

After a long day walking in the wonderful streets of Paris, my friends and I decided to go to the Eiffel Tower and enjoy the 360º view of the city. The sunset was just starting and it was a great place to take pictures from a great viewpoint. It is a widespread fact that sunrises and sunsets are the best moments for photography and those specific parts of the day are known as the Golden Hour, called this way because the pictures have this smooth and warm light that is impossible to get at any other time of the day.

On our way up to the second floor of the tower, an unexpected storm passed by and we thought the whole plan of watching Paris from the Eiffel Tower was going to be ruined, so we decided to wait hoping for the best. Lucky enough, we didn't have to wait too long for the rain to pass, and after it went away the sky cleared and the best moment of the day started: the Golden Hour.

The light was stunning, the rain was really helpful because it produced some beautiful reflections on the tower structure. I walked to get away from the crowds and found the best placed to take my camera out and capture a wonderful moment.

Even though at the moment I was still learning about photography and I didn't know much about it, I was able to take the picture and get the right camera settings and composition. After I took it, I looked on my camera screen and it was exactly what I had I hoped for and what my eyes saw at the moment. To this day, this is one of my favorite pictures and this and nine others of my Euro Trip were selected by a local magazine to write an article about me, called "Moment Hunter".

Joined a global organization called Aiesec and became a exchanged participant to Egypt. Assisted in one of Cairo NGO called Resala, aiming to help people living in poor considition and teach English to kids. We also hold several cultural-sharing events to communicate with volunteers from all over the world.

These two volunteer experiences have taught me how to cooperate with teammates, communicate with people from different backgrounds, and how to handle crisis.

Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in the United States and it is one of the most popular spots to visit around the park. When I visited the park on the last days of spring, I was lucky to be able to watch some water flowing because in summer the falls tend to dry.

The morning that I hiked to the falls, I met an old lady who had visited Yosemite for more than 35 straight years. I saw that she was making a beautiful drawing of the falls and I asked if that was her hobby and she replied that she loved to go to the park and draw because it was so peaceful and relaxing for her.

I told her that it was my first time at the park and I showed her the pictures that I had taken until that moment. We talked for a while on how beautiful and magical the park is. She told me that even though she had visited the park too many times it never ceased to amaze her.

At the moment, I thought that staying 5 days at the park would be too much but nowadays I wish it could have been more. The park is huge and there are a lot of things to do and you are able to connect with many diverse people from around the world and hear different experiences they had in the park.

Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the whole world. It is not too big and not too small and you are able to walk around easily, which is something I really enjoy doing. I’d rather walk than use the car. The people in Chicago are really nice and it is quite easy to start a conversation with them. Last but not least, the architecture of the skyscrapers is simply stunning.

I visited Chicago for the first time on a business trip, but I decided to schedule my trip 3 days before the event I was attending to get the chance to know more about the history of the city (which I think is really interesting) and to take some pictures.

I've always wanted to go to Millennium Park to be able to see the Cloud Gate sculpture, better known as "The Bean" because of its peculiar shape and resemblance to a bean. The size of it was a little bit disappointing because I always thought it would be bigger, but the reflecting surface and the distortion it causes on its surroundings is really impressive and it compensates for the size of it.

Usually I don't take too many pictures at sunrise, but I decided to give Cloud Gate a try to avoid the crowds and to get a picture without people and to give a look of loneliness to it.
