It was snowing couple of times this year, but barely saw it at Niagara Falls (melting). I remember the icing world of Niagara Falls year ago… Searched my archived photos, just by watching these photos, I could feel the icing cold, remembered my hands numbed, eyelashes iced together, camera died due to -28C, could not touch tripod… 😉 It was very cold that year, even the water sprays were frozen in the air... Most of the Niagara Falls were frozen except horseshoe falls which flew forever. The Niagara river was covered with the thick ice, but the power flow from the horseshoe falls was still on… it never stops!
It was sunrise, but the sun was blocked behind the clouds, very light morning colors. On the right corner, you can see the observing platform which was covered with icing… the photo of this platform is here 😊

The fruits of the Spindle tree were covered with a thin layer of ice, one frosty morning. It made them look quite delicious, but don't eat them: they are poisonous! [Explored on 20/01/2023, #94]

Last night felt really cold, so cold I decided to light a fire to keep warm. So this morning I understood just why it was so cold when I opened the blinds and saw the mountain dusted with snow!! First snowfall of the year.
For the "Looking close... on Friday!" challenge "Sprinkles"....
Sprinkles are not part of my kitchen cupboards at all ... but I do like to sprinkle some tiny rolls of chocolate (white and dark) on a special cake or 'fancy'.
Have a happy Saturday! 😊

This is a more unusual view of the Cauldron falls in Rannoch Moor at the start of Glencoe. The falls where iced over in parts and I liked the contrast between the flowing water and the static ice.
Glazing in the trees and sections of the river freezing over as well. Captured while hiking around in Gunpowder Falls State Park.
Happy Birthday to Torrie!
A coconut butter cream icing, on a giant yellow cupcake with a lemon surprise in the middle.
First I ate a slice from the front, then a slice from the back, and suddenly realized that I had a category called cake......so I hurried for the camera, took a bunch of shots, and then I ate the rest.....

Close-up of frost on a window (with blurred Jack pines in the background). Lots of frost, as it was very cold, about -17 C or +2 F.

It's looking decidedly wintry here in Maine, after fresh snow last week and frigid temps over the last few days.
Thank you for visiting!

I rarely get a chance to capture frost or snow, so this is from my archives. A freezing fog came down and coated everything with ice - a rare happening in SE UK - HSoS!
Solheimasandur plane wreck in 1973 at south Iceland.
The Douglas R4D-8 US Navy transport plane had delivered supplies at Hofn Hornafjördur Airport for the radar-station in Stokksnes, Iceland. En route the airplane encountered severe icing. The crew were not able to maintain altitude. A forced landing was carried out on an ice covered river on near coast of Iceland. The ice broke but the airplane did not sink.
The remains of the plane were abandoned and the main fuselage as still there since 1973.

A few images to post from the St. Lawrence River shore where we last paddled Jan 22, that's now icing up due to severe cold weather. This area we recently canoed is now inaccessible. This is obviously the west with the sunset, below the east...
