This beauty was taken in my garden in Littlestone in Kent(I haven't had much time to get out much lately!)
Earwigs
Earwigs make up the insect order Dermaptera. With about 2,000 species in 12 families, they are one of the smaller insect orders. Earwigs have characteristic cerci, a pair of forceps-like pincers on their abdomen, and membranous wings folded underneath short, rarely used forewings, hence the scientific order name, "skin wings". Some groups are tiny parasites on mammals and lack the typical pincers. Earwigs are found on all continents except Antarctica.
Earwigs are mostly nocturnal and often hide in small, moist crevices during the day, and are active at night, feeding on a wide variety of insects and plants. Damage to foliage, flowers, and various crops is commonly blamed on earwigs, especially the common earwig Forficula auricularia.
Earwigs have five molts in the year before they become adults. Many earwig species display maternal care, which is uncommon among insects.
Female earwigs may care for their eggs, and even after they have hatched as nymphs will continue to watch over offspring until their second molt. As the nymphs molt, sexual dimorphism such as differences in pincer shapes begins to show.
Some earwig specimen fossils are in the extinct suborders Archidermaptera or Eodermaptera, the former dating to the Late Triassic and the latter to the Middle Jurassic. Many orders of insect have been theorized to be closely related to earwigs, though the icebugs of Grylloblattaria are most likely.

After an evening walk yesterday my back stiffened up. Normally that only happens if and when I forget to stretch after a longish bike ride/ walk. And usually a day later. This time it happened like an hour after the promenade. I did walk wearing my icebugs, not sure if that had anything to do with it, though. Anyway, I tried fixing it with a stretch routine and a Decembersemla, because why not.
Making my way to the old tree. Met a woman out walking her dog. She asked me if I had cleats, so I showed her my Icebug boots before continuing down the icy path.
A couple of Winters ago I walked down to the cliffs here at the Lower Lake for a few photos. Not seeing the ice, I fell and hurt my back. I got up quickly, jumped on the bike and pedaled for home. The following morning I couldn't move. It was impossible to even get dressed. It took two weeks before I was up and running again. During that time, I ordered a pair of Icebug boots, and these days if it is snowy, and or icy I always wear them when I am out shooting.

Morning run - Fortsätter kräftgången med en besvärlig hosta och halsont som bara vägrar att ge sig. Today the world is very icy after rain fell, and froze instantly on contact with the ground. So it was on with the icebugs (studded shoes) and a walk mostly on the roads. This is about 1,5 kilometres from home and that sun is almost on the horizon despite it being only an hour after the solar noon.
From here we walked down to the lake across the field.
It was very quiet down at the lake and we listened to the ice "booming". As the whole frozen lake surface contracts and expands it makes noises not unlike those recording of whales "singing", Boom-whee! The sounds are very low and gentle. You both hear and feel them. This time we were on the shore but even when you are out on the ice they aren't in the least bit worrying. It's like the ice is breathing, and is actually a sign the ice is good and strong.
There are two places where a current flows on this lake. Avoid them and you are fine! (One of them is the narrow section on the right in this picture, the other is where the stream flows into the lake and can't be seen here.)
My new runningshoes for this winter Icebug DTS - Jag valde att vara helt rationell och logisk i det här valet då jag ville byta bort mina Asics Fujisetsu. Läste på om dessa men håller inte med om att de skulle kännas hårda, snarare tvärtom, fötterna är skönt ombonade. De är dessutom är 30 gram lättare än mina Asics vilket inte gör saken sämre, de här springer jag både snabbare och skönare i. 14 mm drop?!? Ja, det ger lite av en känsla av att konstant stå i startblocket, van med 9 mm från mina Kayano20 men uppenbarligen funkar det ju bra för mig. På långkastrullen :-P idag blev det 22 km @ 5.16 min i -10 grader och där funkade de på alltifrån bar asfalt till is och snötäckta stigar. With 19 studs in each shoe I run were I wanna run - Blev en lugn rekreationsmil i återhämtningsplanen på förmiddagen som gjordes progressivt på andra halvan. Isigt och knöligt ute i markerna men litade helt på dubbarna. Recoveryrun - Första vändan på en vecka blev en långsam mil som kommer att följs av några fler långsamma mil framöver. Runstreaken slutade efter 37 löpdagar med en förkylning och ett ömmande knä. Långsam återbyggnad är nu modellen. duracellbambi: Det är lurigt med att ändra på saker och ting har jag märkt. Har ett par ASICs GT2170 - 14mm funkar dåligt för mig, men det är ju så väldigt individuellt.
upaflash: Inte säkert de är orsaken men har aldrig kört så mycket och jag vill ju gå åt andra hållet egentligen men de var så cosy och mjuka. Ahh alltid svårt att byta skor, kostsamt framför allt. Ska ha nya trail (kanske Nike kieger) och landsvägsskor (funderar på Adidas) inom kort också... @duracellbambi
duracellbambi: Bra skor som funkar känner jag är prioriterat. Jag var lite feg och köpte efterföljare till samma som jag sprungit i förra året det kändes tryggt då det fungerat bra. Bra där de har deal att man får byta efter 30dgr om man inte trivs, intersport har det här. Iofs måste man provlöpa o filma i butik och få råd men det ingår ju.
