Wall-E and I would like to raise awareness that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, as Robin Williams passing, says an awful lot about our relationship with celebrity.
The more media attention this is getting, the more it has become about 'look at this celebrity in a wet t shirt/swimwear/dumping water on themselves' and which celebrity friends they nominate.
I can't recall any video or news articles featuring a celeb video that mentions how or where to donate.
It's supposed to be about raising awareness, not raising celebrities profiles.
While it is truly wonderful that it has generated such media interest, Wall-E and I would like to use his nomination (Yes, Wall-E really was nominated) to explain a little more about this crippling and as yet, incurable disease and which charities to donate to for research into a cure.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the US term to describe what we in the UK we call Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
A motor neuron is a nerve cell that makes voluntary muscle movements.
ALS/MND is a disease in which these cells stop working properly.
ALS/MND affects a person’s ability to move voluntarily.
ALS/MND stops people eating, walking and talking, for example, but doesn’t stop them from thinking or feeling, effectively leaving sufferers ‘locked in’ to their bodies.
You can donate to any charity of your choice, UK information here:

She's sort of hard to hear, but she was challenged by her cousin and took it without (much) flinching. :)

My ice bucket challenge!
Instead of wasting water and getting myself wet I painted this ice bucket, my favourite type of ice bucket, all proceeds from the sale will go to the UK motor neuron disease charity, please share the auction and let's raise some dosh!

The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on one's head and/or donating to the ALS Association in the United States. It went viral throughout social media in summer, 2014.

My ice bucket challenge... for anyone who needs a translation, I thanked my blue-eyed friend, Chantal, who first challenged me to do this, and my 4 year old grandson, Caleb, who's the littlest guy I know who's actually done it- and I'm so proud of him for that - and I passed on the challenge to Phil in the Netherlands, and finally I said I was doing it for my big brother of a friend, Gilbert, whose lovely wife Noëlla is combatting this dreaded disease... and if I seem emotional in the final seconds, it's because I love Gilbert and Noëlla dearly... and if anyone feels compelled to give to the ALS cause after watching this, please do...
