Joe Fafard’s Bronze Bull stands proudly at Georgia and Richards

Meet Royal Sweet Diamond, one of downtown Vancouver’s more interesting animal statues.

Royal Sweet Diamond was commissioned in 2001, there isn’t much information on this statue or why it’s a bull at this corner and not some other animal. Apparently the owner of the BC Turf Building, Mr Diamond, is a fan of Joe Fafard and had him commission this work for “the enjoyment of the people of British Columbia and Visitors” in May of 2000.

As the birthplace of Vancouver, Gastown was initially a settlement that sprung up around a tavern founded in 1867 by sailor and gold prospector John "Gassy Jack" Deighton. This historic district's cobblestone streets are lined with Victorian buildings that today house everything from souvenir shops and First Nations galleries to stylish clothing boutiques. With informational plaques placed strategically along the street to tell the history behind various buildings and landmarks, Gastown is an excellent area for a walking tour.

A new page of noted for my upcoming blog, "My Dinner With Android", in which i discuss being screwed over by iMessages.

I had a really rough day today, so once I got home from work I went for a run. After the run it seemed to actually get worse while I was conversing with a friend over iMessage. I decided I needed to get out of the house, so I sent Claude an email, a friend of mine who's been in the divorce process for over a year now, and has a friend (Jessica) staying at his house who just left her husband very recently. So as they say, misery loves company, but the three of us were anything but miserable whilst we discussed our current situations. It was a great evening, and I left one friend richer.

In 2002, the UBC Centre for Plant Research became the research arm of the UBC Botanical Garden. The Centre for Plant Research examines topics such as plant adaptation, genomics and phytochemistry. The Botanical Gardens and the Centre for Plant Research are both encompassed by UBC's Faculty of Land and Food Systems.

UBC Botanical Garden, at the University of British Columbia, was established in 1916. It is the oldest botanical garden at a university in Canada.

The garden measures approximately 44 hectares and includes over 8000 different kinds of plants. Gardens include an Asian garden, an alpine garden, a native plants garden, a food garden and a physic (medicinal) garden.

Kerr was raised in Campell River, BC, and Studied in Carrara, Italy, and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design

Cameron Kerr’s sculptural practice is to give new life to images and forms around us through different materials and scale. The sculptures are exquisitely carved and finished and grounded in modernist architecture, art history and local cultural iconography. The forms are influenced by the shape and contingencies of the stone itself during the carving process.
