Sidwell Friends School, also known as The Highlands and as the Zartman House, at 3825 Wisconsin Avenue in Washington, D.C. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Since finals/moving residents out/final concerts/end-of-the-year ballyhoo is looming over the horizon, I haven't thought about my 365day pictures until I'm sitting at my computer at night. This started off as the FGR shot for T-shirt Tuesday. It's a Chipotle shirt that ironically, I got free after buying tacos there one day (it was late during the "buy a burrito, get a free t-shirt" day so I got one as well). Truth be told, I only really eat burritos at Burrito Loco because I can get BBQ chicken there (otherwise, it's not really appealing).
I also decided to have this picture give you a peek into my typical surroundings (kind of like starpixie's week), and if we're talking about typical surroundings, the first place to examine is my computer/desk area. So, here it is with the stuff I felt like tagging (several things have already had their 365 debut).
Alright day. I turned in my last homework assignment for Math 5652 which was good. Now I just need to make it through the Stat 5102 homework, midterm, Mus 3460 final concert, Mus 5240 dress rehearsal, and final concert... and then only one week left of school! I took tonight to not worry about math or stats and it was nice (I should make some posters before choir for the upcoming Disney movie marathon though).

London Mayor Boris Johnson sneaks in and out of secret Tory Conference as activists protest at the entrance. Hammermith Town Hall, London
Thanks to a leaked email and Twitter the scores of Conservative Party delegates who turned up at Hammersmith Town Hall today for a secret London Regional Conservative Party conference had to run the gauntlet of a small-but-loud picket of protesters who were angry at the severe local funding cuts already implemented by the right-wing Conservative Hammersmith & Fulham Council which has just announced a punitive budget for the next year, slashing front line services to the elderly, the disabled, immigrant support and child protection services.
Hammermith & Fulham's Conservative councillors have gone further than Communities Secretary Eric "Jabba The Hut" Pickles' 11.5% cuts by a further 3.5%. In their last round of budget cuts the council admitted even last year that they were already putting the lives of disabled residents at risk. Last year's cuts are nothing compared to this latest round.
The cuts are already blighting poorer people's lives in the borough, with much, much more to come, yet the council is happily earmarking £35,000,000 for the construction of a 14-storey luxury apartment development for private resale on land which previously hosted a large number of Community Groups and Services.
This conference was also intended to serve as a platform for "Star Turn of the day" London Mayor Boris Johnson to launch his re-election campaign. Johnson, however, sneaked in by a side door to avoid having to listen to people's legitimate complaints and, like a cowardly thief in the night when his speech inside had finished he sneaked out of a disused Service Entrance down the side of the building on his bicycle, refusing to pose for a single photograph. In his haste to escape our cameras he crashed into the kerb, slipped off his saddle (almost crushing his infamously fertile Tory testicles in the process) and almost fell over before wobbling off into the distance like a massive, corn-fed Norman Wisdom and almost crashing into a pedestrian.
The fifty police officers (including a Metropolitan Police catering van) who had to attend this meeting cost around £15,000 for the day according to a senior police officer we spoke to, and bearing this huge cost to the taxpayers it is even more odious that Boris Johnson should sneak in and out of the building specifically to avoid any contact whatsoever with the very Londoners he frequently claims to champion. In fact from the attendees of the conference not a single Conservative politician would engage the crowd - unless you count the unknown individual who got onto the external stairs leading to the conference room and turned round to flick the "V's" at the protesters below.
The police reported that they were very happy with the behaviour of the 100 or so protesters.

People favourably respond to Change
Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.
人们对改变的有利反应
总体上，当人们受到批评的时候，不会变得更好。但他们受到表扬的时候，总是积极反应。华西村不是中国最差 的地方，它跟从着-有时也领导着中国政府与人民的目标与潮流。这个目标首先是变富，然后再处理垃圾。西方按照自己的日程表也这样做过。现在有些中国人也这 么做，就面临虚伪的国际压力。
An aspirational monument - if you choose to see it that way..
When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

我应邀了参加华西村“空中新农村大楼”授牌仪式(www.tudou.com /programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ )，当时我谈到这栋大楼并不是炫富和挥霍，而是华西村的一个新地标。比起那些千篇一律的别墅，脏乱差的工厂，一切向钱看的态度和人造世界景观，这栋摩天大 楼是一个振奋人心 里程碑，它作为可持续发展的标志建筑让人感到震撼和心生敬畏，它能让人们感到天地人和谐发展的信息，体现了吴仁宝“人间天堂”的理念。以社会，环境和经济 作为三条支柱，寻求三者的平衡发展是华西村的新理念。

"Now that Huaxi village is rich, what's next?"
Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

"Now that Huaxi village is rich, what's next?"
Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

The positive vote on the EU-US PNR deal, which came in spite of the fact that fundamental concerns previously outlined by the EP and European courts have not been addressed, will mean US authorities will be able to continue to retain private information about EU airline passengers.
Before the vote, Greens/EFA MEPs and MEPs from the GUE/NGL group staged an action outside the hemicycle to try and convince other groups to reject the agreement.
In the end however, they were outnumbered by the decision of the Conservatives and Social Democrats to vote in favour.
Unable to amend the final text, Greens voted to reject the deal and hit out at the outcome

No one should misunderstand what we're seeing here.
Bighorn rams seek to inseminate as many ewes as they can.
The rams fight each other in brutal battles, smashing their heads into the others’. Eventually, one retreats and the victor has won the power to 'rule' the herd. Among the rams and ewes there is not, according to anything I've uncovered, any kind of family relationship similar to that of a hyoomin family.
Please do not 'sentimentalize' this image....
For those who wondered, how I get so close, there's no mystery! These gorgeous animals, protected in this area, are so used to human presence that while they enable us non-hunters to get great looks and opportunities for photos, they endanger themselves every time they venture across the road and into this public pasture just above Okanagan Lake.
I make no apologies for how easy my task is; like my son who is a hunter, but worries about these animals as he might about his own livestock, I am concerned that the animals are extremely vulnerable, not only to vehicular traffic but to diseases they could acquire due to their proximity to domestic sheep in the area.
CABIs are more fragile than they or most hyoomins realize....
FINALLY, for those who think I'm a hypocrite for pursuing them, let me say, that both sets of photos from this fall were made while I needed to use Westside Road for other purposes.... I had the chance, therefore, to record the CABIs' presence, and I took it. I hope that, some time in the future, these shots do not end up being featured in a gallery of "The Way It Was, Once Upon A Time."

A $42,000 camping trip. Two doddering old white men handing her multiple high powered rifles. All the while, a pounding symphony brings the excitement to a heady boiling point. The oldest of the old men craps his own pants and nearly shoots himself in the face, as Sarah shoots a totally motionless animal. Then she has the vile audacity to say a prayer over it about the meat going to a 'good family'. This displays everything disgusting about America. She didn't need the meat, she displayed no skill, no courage, and no intelligence. This footage needs to go in a time capsule in case the human race destroys itself through stupidity, ego, greed and self importance. It will go to explain a lot.
I vomited in my shoes and then put them on and walked a mile. Only to distract myself from the thought of Sarah Palin.

When she shuts up, I'll shut up.
Her defense for 'hunting' the caribou and rebuttal to her detractors was "If you wear leather shoes or ever eat meat, you're a hypocrite." Faulty logic as usual.
You are the hypocrite Pain (purposefully missing L) You say you shot the deer for the necessity of meat to eat, and yet you spent $42,000 on the trip and you are a millionaire. You have no need of self hunted meat. Also you are an embarrassment to real hunters (not that I have any love or respect for 'real' hunters, but you make them look even more like fools and incompetent bumblers.
Tell me how it's 'hunting' if you blast off your guns twice in a thunderous announcement across the wilderness of your incompetent presence, and the animal just stands there looking curious? It doesn't run away, it doesn't try and hide. How do you hunt something that doesn't try to elude you? That's like playing hide and seek with a retarded child who stands in plain sight when you give them time to hide. The creature had never heard a gun before. Never seen another human being most likely. You are the first example of our species it had the unfortunate opportunity to encounter. What a pity.

What is ego? In an enlightenment context, the word ego refers to a deeply ingrained, unconscious, compulsive, and mechanical need to remain separate and superior at all times, in all places, under all circumstances. Ego is expressed as an irrational refusal to say yes to life, to love, and to God—to an unconditionally positive relationship to the human experience.
The true face of ego is rarely seen for what it is except at those brief moments when you have recognized something as being absolutely positive, wholesome, and good, and are compelled to respond, to say a wholehearted yes to that which you have recognized. It is only in those moments that you come face to face with the force of a powerful inertia within you that blindly resists, defies, and denies that which is radically positive. This is what ego is: that immovable stance, deep in the human heart and mind, that irrationally resists any call from within or without to embrace the greatest goodness. When we aspire to evolve at the level of consciousness, to live a spiritual life, to become an enlightened person, we open our hearts to the thrilling possibility of something so inconceivably glorious that it's just too positive for most of us to bear. And it is only when we dare to even consider saying yes to this highest good that we will experience this kind of profound confrontation with our own self—both with the anti-evolutionary force that exists in all of us, and with our normally untapped potential for extraordinary developmental leaps.

Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.

When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

Dogs Just Know
You ever heard that a dog 'knows' when an earthquake is about to hit?
Have you ever heard that a dog can 'sense' when a tornado is stirring up, even 20 miles away?
Do you remember hearing that before the December tsunami struck Southeast Asia, dogs started running frantically away from the sea-shore, at breakneck speed?
Do you know that dogs can detect cancer and other serious illnesses and danger of fire?
Somehow they always know when they can 'go for a ride' before you even ask and how do those dogs and cats get home from hundreds of miles away?
I'm a firm believer that animals - and especially dogs - have keen insights into the Truth.
And you can't tell me that dogs can't sense a potentially terrible disaster well in advance...
Simply said, a dog just KNOWS when something isn't right… when impending doom is upon us ... They’ll always try to warn us...!!
The free lunch at the "Eco Summit" included these wonderful sandwiches stacked high with rare, bloody roast beef wrapped in plastic bags. At least the bags are secured shut with natural fiber strings.
Note also the bottled water on the table. As I'm typing this, Sun VP for Eco Responsbility Doug Davis actually is talking about these water bottles saying that we need to eliminate the use of these water bottles at Sun.

So today, I had a lot of self reflection. I've realized that I've given all this advice to people about relationships, friendships, and life in general, but yet I'm unable to listen to what I've told others. I'm such a hypocrite, I hate it so much. So, I guess I gotta do something about that soon.
Anyways, this roll of film was acquired along with my Canon Rebel 2000 film camera back in late June of 2011. This is the only roll of film I shot since. Inside this roll, I have images of my Summer back home in Chicago. Man, that was seriously the happiest time of my life haha. Anyways, I'm planning on getting this roll developed soon so I can start building my photo wall. I plan on having a wall of photos either near my desk or my bed.

It seems that in Korean culture, puppets were low culture and pretty crude. These were used by common people to make fun of the hypocritical upper crust. I saw these in the National Folk Museum in Seoul.
This mobile police speed camera on Sawpit Hill, Holmer Green was photographed causing an obstruction in front of hatched road markings, forcing uphill drivers to overtake over the hatched safety lines and into oncoming road users.
The police van was also causing a line-of-site obstruction to house-holders immediately above the van. Also one might ask why the police need two spy camaras next to each other?
The police would say that this is all in the name of road safety! Do the words hypocrite and stealth tax come to mind?
