Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.

An aspirational monument - if you choose to see it that way..
When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

"Now that Huaxi village is rich, what's next?"
Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

Secret # 30.
Yesterday's theme for Mission 24 was forbidden. It really got me thinking and I realized that one of the things that is sorta forbidden amongst Christians is being yourself. So many times, we have a mask on that conceals who we truly are and how broken we are. We're afraid to say the things that are going wrong in our lives so we just continue to put on a mask and live through this mask for the rest of our lives. Man, it's time to cut the crap and remove the masks. We need to stop doing this and let people into our lives. I'm the first one who's guilty of this so I feel that it's time for a change. There was a time where I didn't crack my Bible open for a year and a half but I didn't go to anyone to help me. Why? Because I thought that I would be judged. Now, I've found friends who when I'm going through something... they help me. Let's remove the masks... c'mon. It'll be liberating. During this 30 secrets thing I've realized that I've shared a lot and it's helped me remove my mask.
One of my favorite books is also called, "The Naked Christian". Easy tigers, it's about losing the mask and becoming true to yourselves. Check it out on Amazon.

I am not religious and I find it very difficult to believe in religions and follow them...
But I think I now (after this very long) understand the essence of the
whole concept... I dont like the temples, the hypocritic priests and their slimy ways, the dirty floors and walls and the norm of removing shoes, the bad rotten flowers and dirty water they give away in name of God and all the black money that gets pumped into the temples in name of God ... I dislike it all...
It makes me very angry to be inside a temple and to have to bribe a priest so that I can have a peaceful look at the idol!

But... I loved what i witnessed at Udupi this visit....The sounds of the drums and the "manjiras" still ring in my ear, I cant still forget the temple elephant dancing to the rhythm, the hundreds of people that suddenly appeared from nowhere to pull on
the thick ropes tugged onto the 20-30 foot tall wooden chariot, the rush, the mood,the fire, the music and it all stirred something inside me...
I felt tears rolling down my eyes, I can feel them now!
I now know what its all about, and how wrong we all got it...and how simple it has to be.... Its all about energy... and positive energy... and we can all feel it... its this energy that makes it all so spiritual...

The Cold Food Festival or Hanshi Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated for three consecutive days starting the day before the Qingming Festival in the Chinese Calendar, which falls on April 5, thus holiday celebrated in China as well as the nearby nations of Korea and Vietnam.
Legend has it that Chong'er a prince of Jin endured many hardships while he fled around the warring states. Once, in order to help the prince who was tormented by hunger, Jie Zhitui cut off the flesh from his thigh and offered it to the prince for sustenance.
Later, when Chong'er became Duke Wen of Jin he ordered a search for Jie Zhitui who had gone into hiding in the remote mountains with his mother. Jie Zhitui had no political ambitions and felt ashamed to work with his hypocritical fellows, hence refused invitation of the Duke. Chong'er ordered the mountains to be burned down in order to force Zhitui out of hiding. Unfortunately Zhitui did not give in and the fire ended up killing Zhitui and his mother.
Filled with remorse, Chong'er ordered that each year during these three days the setting of fire is forbidden – all food was to be consumed cold. Therefore the Festival is thus named.
In reality, the true source of the Cold Food Festival started from the ancient tradition of setting fire by rubbing wood pieces together and the tradition of lighting new fires. Due to the change of seasons and the change in the type of wood available, the ancient practice was to change the type of fire-starter-wood used from season to season. Fire is lighted anew upon the start of each season. Before the new fire is officially started no one is allowed to light a fire. This was an important event during that time. The traditionally practiced activities during the Cold Food Festival includes the visitation of ancestral tombs, cock-fighting, playing on swings, beating out blankets (to freshen them), tug-of-war, etc. The practice of visiting ancestral tombs is especially ancient.

London Mayor Boris Johnson sneaks in and out of secret Tory Conference as activists protest at the entrance. Hammermith Town Hall, London
Thanks to a leaked email and Twitter the scores of Conservative Party delegates who turned up at Hammersmith Town Hall today for a secret London Regional Conservative Party conference had to run the gauntlet of a small-but-loud picket of protesters who were angry at the severe local funding cuts already implemented by the right-wing Conservative Hammersmith & Fulham Council which has just announced a punitive budget for the next year, slashing front line services to the elderly, the disabled, immigrant support and child protection services.
Hammermith & Fulham's Conservative councillors have gone further than Communities Secretary Eric "Jabba The Hut" Pickles' 11.5% cuts by a further 3.5%. In their last round of budget cuts the council admitted even last year that they were already putting the lives of disabled residents at risk. Last year's cuts are nothing compared to this latest round.
The cuts are already blighting poorer people's lives in the borough, with much, much more to come, yet the council is happily earmarking £35,000,000 for the construction of a 14-storey luxury apartment development for private resale on land which previously hosted a large number of Community Groups and Services.
This conference was also intended to serve as a platform for "Star Turn of the day" London Mayor Boris Johnson to launch his re-election campaign. Johnson, however, sneaked in by a side door to avoid having to listen to people's legitimate complaints and, like a cowardly thief in the night when his speech inside had finished he sneaked out of a disused Service Entrance down the side of the building on his bicycle, refusing to pose for a single photograph. In his haste to escape our cameras he crashed into the kerb, slipped off his saddle (almost crushing his infamously fertile Tory testicles in the process) and almost fell over before wobbling off into the distance like a massive, corn-fed Norman Wisdom and almost crashing into a pedestrian.
The fifty police officers (including a Metropolitan Police catering van) who had to attend this meeting cost around £15,000 for the day according to a senior police officer we spoke to, and bearing this huge cost to the taxpayers it is even more odious that Boris Johnson should sneak in and out of the building specifically to avoid any contact whatsoever with the very Londoners he frequently claims to champion. In fact from the attendees of the conference not a single Conservative politician would engage the crowd - unless you count the unknown individual who got onto the external stairs leading to the conference room and turned round to flick the "V's" at the protesters below.
The police reported that they were very happy with the behaviour of the 100 or so protesters.

Due to the closure of the North Bridge by Extinction Rebellion (ER), all routes were diverted, curtailed or cancelled. Thankfully was in the right place at the right time. The demonstrators finished their protest around 1930, avoiding days of inconvenience like in London. One of the protesters, who was staying in the same Hotel as me, admitted he had come to Edinburgh by car, and it wasn't even electric or a hybrid!! Given the ER position on the motor car, he seemed a little surprised at being called a hypocrite. Heavy Police presence on Waverley Station to stop any disruption, though Abellio was doing a good job disrupting the services anyway! Still ER made their point.

People favourably respond to Change
Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.
人们对改变的有利反应
总体上，当人们受到批评的时候，不会变得更好。但他们受到表扬的时候，总是积极反应。华西村不是中国最差 的地方，它跟从着-有时也领导着中国政府与人民的目标与潮流。这个目标首先是变富，然后再处理垃圾。西方按照自己的日程表也这样做过。现在有些中国人也这 么做，就面临虚伪的国际压力。
An aspirational monument - if you choose to see it that way..
When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

"Now that Huaxi village is rich, what's next?"
Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

Blow for EU citizens' civil liberties as hypocritical MEPs green light controversial EU-US PNR deal
A majority of MEPs voted today to reverse the European Parliament's long-standing role in defence of EU citizens' civil liberties and to endorse intrusive big brother style surveillance.
The positive vote on the EU-US PNR deal, which came in spite of the fact that fundamental concerns previously outlined by the EP and European courts have not been addressed, will mean US authorities will be able to continue to retain private information about EU airline passengers.
Before the vote, Greens/EFA MEPs and MEPs from the GUE/NGL group staged an action outside the hemicycle to try and convince other groups to reject the agreement.
In the end however, they were outnumbered by the decision of the Conservatives and Social Democrats to vote in favour.
Unable to amend the final text, Greens voted to reject the deal and hit out at the outcome

A majority of MEPs voted today to reverse the European Parliament's long-standing role in defence of EU citizens' civil liberties and to endorse intrusive big brother style surveillance.
The positive vote on the EU-US PNR deal, which came in spite of the fact that fundamental concerns previously outlined by the EP and European courts have not been addressed, will mean US authorities will be able to continue to retain private information about EU airline passengers.
Before the vote, Greens/EFA MEPs and MEPs from the GUE/NGL group staged an action outside the hemicycle to try and convince other groups to reject the agreement.
In the end however, they were outnumbered by the decision of the Conservatives and Social Democrats to vote in favour.
Unable to amend the final text, Greens voted to reject the deal and hit out at the outcome

People favourably respond to Change
Generally speaking, people don't change for the better when criticized. But they do respond favourably to praise.
Huaxi Cun is not the worst place in China, and it has been following and sometimes leading the objectives and trends of the government and Chinese people - first it was to get rich - and clean up the mess later. We did this in the West on our own schedule, some Chinese are doing it now under the generally hypocritical pressure of the global community.

When I was invited to Huaxi Cun for the inauguration of the “Village in the Sky”, (www.tudou.com/programs/view/05XpJXkiNwI/ ) I spoke of the new tower as a beacon for all to see, not in terms of opulence and excess, but as a towering 3 element "Symbol of Sustainability" - an aspirational symbol rising above all else - including the cookie-cutter villas, the grubby factories, the money focus and the faux world landmarks - to shock and awe viewers into realizing that all monuments have a message – and this one should inspire people to make the connection between Heaven, Earth and the People (Tian, Di, Ren 天地人) and that to achieve Wu Renbao’s “Heaven on Earth”… the Triple-Bottom-Line balance between Society, Environment and Economy （社会,环境,经济）must become Huaxi’s new ethic.

"Now that Huaxi village is rich, what's next?"
Following my presentation, the new building’s architect Ma Xusheng, in turn praised my interpretation of his building’s design, saying that no one had thought of it before, but that “with your new ‘Society, Environment, Economy ‘meaning attached, our building is even richer”.
At a private dinner with village leaders the evening before, I had shamelessly asked: “Now that Huaxi village is rich, what’s next?” – hoping to encourage them to expound on how they were going to share Huaxi’s wealth and expertise with other communities and to build sustainable enterprises based on a model ecological civilisation… however the response was understandable, as a bit more thinking is required; and considering most people’s focus was still on showing off and celebrating what they have achieved so far, the answer was a simple “Gambei!”

This matter has simply rubbed me the wrong way, every way. I find the entire ordeal to be hypocritical at best on numerous counts.
I find several problems with the case, not the least of which is the ruling.
First, there's the fact that the company does business almost exclusively with a nation that mandates a one-child policy which is enforced by abortion. That would be China.
Second, the recent revelation that the company invested in firms that manufacture oral contraceptives and Intra-Uterine Devices (IUDs) which are a form of implanted contraceptive.
On a personal level, while as a practicing Catholic, I do my best to adhere to the Church's teachings (that's why forgiveness exists), I do not and will not attempt to force my beliefs upon those who do not so believe. I respect others, and their differing opinions. And, in those times in which civil dialogue may arise on topics wherein there are differences, I do my best to discuss in polite tones the case to which I adhere, as well as the rationale for the same.
From the perspective as a believer, it further seems to me that this matter is a direct violation of one of the admonitions given by the Apostle Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians, which is "If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord's people?"
I liken the matter thusly: Observant Jews - such as those whom own some well-known photography & electronics businesses in New York City - close their business operations before sunset Friday, in order to observe the Sabbath, which is Saturday. They also close for observance of Jewish high holy days. Whether or not they have requested their employees not eat non-kosher foods while on duty is beyond my knowledge. Perhaps I shall call to inquire. However, to the best of my knowledge, the Supreme Court Of The United States has not been burdened with any inane questions on the matter.
Secondarily, as a healthcare professional, I can attest to the fact that oral contraceptives are NOT abortafacients. That is to say, they DO NOT cause abortions - even the so-called "morning after" pill, which is only a HIGH DOSE of the same medicine, which ONLY prevents an egg from being released.
Widely published reports also specifically mention that "Hobby Lobby's owners believe that the contraceptives at issue cause abortions." A belief is defined as "an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists," and itself MUST be based in truth, not fantasy, not fiction, unsubstantiated personal opinion. Opinions - defined as "a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge" - are a whole 'nother matter, altogether.
In fact, on page 2 of the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. summary filed with the SCOTUS, it states specifically, that "In these cases, the owners of three closely held for-profit corporations have sincere Christian beliefs that life begins at conception and that it would violate their religion to facilitate access to contraceptive drugs or devices that operate after that point."
Note how contraception is thrown in with abortion. In fact, the prefix "contra" means "against." So, "CONTRAception" would be AGAINST conception. In other words, PREVENTING an egg and sperm from uniting... and in the ultimate case PREVENT a pregnancy and (if one were so inclined) abortion.
The actions by the Hobby Lobby corporation - whose owners are Protestants - are further hypocritical from a strictly religious perspective, because Protestants have a history dating back to King Henry VIII of England of picking and choosing what they want to make their own religions (properly, denominations) without regard to the orthodoxy of the Catholic church, against whom the rebel.
If you recall history, you will recollect that England's King Henry VIII asked the Pope to issue a certificate of divorce to him from his wife had not borne male children to him, so that one of them could become heirs to the throne. The Pope refused his request, and King George, in an act of rebellion, set up his own religion, and called it "The Church of England," and made himself the leader of it. Thus, he could do whatever he wanted, without the bother of having to answer to a higher Earthly spiritual authority. He eventually married SIX times... and had TWO of them killed by beheading.
The little rhyme is: "Divorced, beheaded, died; Divorced beheaded survived."
It has quite literally been the case since, that ANYONE can form their own religion. And, with Protestants, they can simply hang out a shingle, call it what they want (ex. First Church of the Blipety Blap, etc.), and bada-boom, bada-bing, they're a "reverend." They have no structure of oversight or authority, and there are a host of problems that come along for that ride.

A country of ruin.
I was standing behind the camera thinking. Wondering how in Europe there are cathedrals and chapels that stand for a thousand years, yet here in America it seems that day after day I find yet another church laid to ruin. Some of which barely lasted a century.
Not enough souls in the pews, or cash in the coffers.
It's crazy to think of the time were living in. We are witnessing the decline of the American century. We live in a country that is evermore devoid of industry, opportunity and obviously any sort of faith what so ever.
I find it even more unsound given the fact that our country was rallied behind one word a few years ago.
Hope.
Well here it is.
I am not a religious person in anyway. I can't say that I believe in a God, God's or higher power. That feeling fluctuates. I do go to church on occasion. If that makes me a hypocrite, so be it. What I can say though, is looking at the history of our country, there is a direct correlation between the success of America and the portrayal of Godliness.
Right now America feels rotten at the core. It's feels like an old barn whose supports have been eaten by termites, just waiting for the tipping point.
