A view of the Michigan Engineering researcher's detector inside the hypervelocity
chamber, where the aluminum projectiles are fired with the Nike laser facility. The
researchers used the facility located at the Naval Research Facility (NRL) in
Washington D.C. on December 10th, 2024 to test whether space debris emit signals
that could enable satellite operators to track debris and avoid collisions.
