The booth also had giant Flash wings on the gateway, but I didn't get a good picture.

Saturday at WonderCon 2017 (writeup)
This guy was amazing. Not only did he have the look down, but he had the attitude as well.
A bit after this, I heard him giving a speech in full character commanding all mortals present to attend an upcoming panel.

Moments later, the Scarlet Witch started singing, "Bird, bird, bird. The bird is the word."
No, I'm not kidding.

Believe it or not, there were tons of people in costumes that weren't Disney related. Somehow I ended up mostly taking pictures of people who were.
Sunday at WonderCon 2015. Writeup of the con.
It took a loooong time to shuffle out of there after I accidentally wandered in. Good thing there weren't any (real) zombies.

In case you haven't been to a comic-con lately, there used to be (or maybe still is) a trend where people carry signs that say "Free Hugs."

Two solar ice halos spotted at lunch.
The 22° halo around the sun is really bright and clear, and not that uncommon even in Los Angeles. I've seen so many that I still take photos, but I often forget to post them unless there's something unusual about the view.
The circumhorizon arc below it, on the other hand, I've only seen a few times, usually fragments. It's faint, but it's the longest and least wispy of these arcs that I've seen (though the best was probably this one from 2010).
The lower one could be an infralateral arc. It wasn't quite long enough to tell in person whether it curved upward or was parallel to the horizon, and it's hard to tell how much of the curve in the photo is due to lens distortion. But according to Atmospheric Optics, they're a lot rarer than circumhorizon arcs.
It's cool to be able to get pictures of these with my phone. There was a time I'd run to get a camera and hope it wouldn't fade first.
Saturation enhanced. It was really hazy!
The view from my hotel window. We weren't exactly close to the convention center during our stay for Comic-Con.

Yomiko Readman, aka The Paper, from the anime series "Read or Die." It's been a few years since she did this costume, but it still works.

I think the clown's a regular Gaslamp street performer, and for whatever reason the Starz booth babes were posing with her.
The third duckling on the right was spooked by the turtle surfacing its head right next to it. Between this shot and the next, a few seconds later, it had darted away and hidden behind its mother.
Ducks (mostly mallards like these), coots and geese (mostly Canada Geese) make this one of their regular migratory spots. Seagulls, pigeons and crows stop by regularly. Smaller birds mostly stick to the other parts of the park. The turtles, like those in most of the ponds around here, are feral - released pets and their descendants.
Also on Pixelfed and on my blog, and observed at iNaturalist.

And yes, that power-button symbol on the building at far right is really there: it's a giant ad for an upcoming TV show.

It took a few tries to get the exposure right to catch details of the daylit crescent, but this shot nicely caught the night side of the moon (and some bonus clouds that were drifiting past).
It's a bit noisy, but I may be able to clean it up a bit. It'll be a good exercise in learning how to use Darktable. (Blog entry)
The two of us in our costumes for the day: Yomiko Readman from the anime/manga "Read or Die" and Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash.

In one booth: a pair of 13(?)-year-old twin girls who wrote a science fiction novel, The Strand Prophecy. Right next to them: a supermodel, whose booth is plastered with bikini posters. Great message you're sending them, Wizard.
One of the fun things about going in costume is you never know who's going to want to pose with you.
Yes, it's a cosplaying dog as Rainbow Dash.
