Quick (lazy) self portrait taken earlier today. If you've been a Flickr contact for a while, you might recognize those paper clouds from a self portrait I took last year. I was too lazy to cut new clouds this afternoon so I "borrowed" them from my old photo XD

It's been a lot colder these days. Almost everyone I know has been down with the flu, including me. (I think I might have passed it on to some people, I'm not sure, hehehe XD) I like the cold (and cloudy) weather, I just wish it wouldn't rain so much. The other day I got stuck at the library for over an hour waiting for the rain to stop so I could go home. Plus all the humidity is making my piano's keys swell up T__T

Oh, Stephanie tagged me a while back (like over a month ago), and I keep forgetting to do it. So here are 5 things you didn't know (or might not know) about me:

1. I can't sleep on a bus (or a car) unless it's moving. Another reason to hate traffic.

2. I always carry a bottle of antacids in my bag. I've been suffering from hyperacidity ever since 2004, and I normally need them, especially when I'm stressed.

3. I've never travelled (to another country) without my parents before. I've been travelling since I was 6 years old, but the thought of travelling alone still freaks me out.

4. I love (good) reality shows, even though I know that most of the scenes are scripted.

5. I catch colds really easily. Put me next to a person who has a cold for about 10 minutes and there's an 80% chance that I'll have a runny nose the next day.

2. My family loves dogs! (We have 5 at the moment)

4. We have so many aquariums at our house that I lost count ... last I checked we had about nine. (My parents are addicted to FISH!) My mom actually had an accident due to their obsession. One of our aquariums exploded and she fell and landed on some pieces of glass. My dad had to rush her to the hospital and get stitches. You'd expect that they'd give up their fish obsession then ... but it only became stronger ... they bought 3 new aquariums after that to replace the one that broke.

5. I LOVE ASIAN DRAMAS! My favorites so far are: It Started With A Kiss (Taiwanese), Nodame Cantabile (Japanese), Hana Kimi (Japanese) and Maou (Japanese)... etc ...

6. I pretend to not be scared of horror films, when I'm actually a big scaredy cat. When I watch asian horror films with my sister I spend about 40% of the time with my eyes closed. I have her read the subtitles outloud and describe what's happening on screen XD

7. I wear glasses (not all the time though)

8. I don't drink carbonated beverages (hyperacidity)

9. I love dark chocolate

I feel fine; I feel sharp stomach pains here and there, but the pain is starting to diminish. So yeah, Lexii, BE HAPPEH GURL. :D BUT I AM NOT ALLOWED TO EAT POTATO CHIPS. How sad is that?

Two craters adorn the summit of Patuha Volcano. The dry crater of Kawah Patuha lies 600 meters northwest of Kawah Putih, a crater lake with approximately 8 meters of water depth. Kawah Putih crater lake represents a relatively stable volcanic system, with no records of magmatic or phreatic activity since A.D. 1600. Nevertheless, magmatic activity manifests itself in Kawah Putih as the hyperacid lakewater solution that results from condensation of SO2, H2S, and HCl gases near the lake bottom.

Hydrothermal water-rock interactions in the Kawah Putih system constitute a present-day example of volcanic ore-deposit formation. Precipitation of native sulfur and other sulfides from lake waters have accumulated as extensive sulfur-rich sediments on the lake bottom. These sediments were mined during the first half of the 20th century and comprised 90% of Indonesia's sulfur production at that time. Abundant seepage of Kawah Putih's lakewaters into fractures is another mechanism of hydrothermal ore formation in the volcano.

Seepage of lakewater from Kawah Putih is also a concern to human health. This seepage acidifies the flank springs of Patuha volcano. The flank springs feed the Ciwidey and Citarum Rivers, whose waters are used by local people for irrigation.

Horseradish - Armoracia rusticana

Other common names: Red Cole

Scientific name meaning: Armoracia is the Latin name for the plant, while rusticana means "of the country, rural"

Season Spring to Autumn

Habitat - where will I find it? Well established in Britain, Horseradish is an ancient introduction and a native of Asia

Description - what does it look like? Horseradish has tall dock-like leaves reaching to 1m from the ground. The leaves are shiny and have a wavy-toothed edge. Its flower stalk has many inflorescence of white cruciform flowers (four petals arranged in a cross formation).

When crushed, the leaves give off the smell of Horseradish

Possible lookalikes Many of the Docks (Rumex) genus could be easily mistaken for Horseradish. However, no Docks have the odour of Horseradish. In addition, Horseradish's leaves are shiny, unlike the matt leaves of dock, and have a distinct wavy-toothed edged, which the Docks lack.

Use as a food The young leaves of Horseradish have a good strong flavour and can be eaten raw or cooked. However, the root, which is best harvested in early winter, is the most used. It is strongly flavoured and traditionally used to make Horseradish sauce

Use in herbal medicine Horseradish has many uses in herbalism including to treat skin redness, digestive disorders, constipation, chest infections, pleurisy, infections, arthritis, chilblains, muscle soreness, and urinary tract infections.

It has also been used as a diuretic, antiseptic and expectorant. Research is being undertaken into potential anti-tumour properties.

It can cause blistering if applied to the skin so caution is advised.

Other uses A solution made from the root can be used to treat fungal diseases, such as brown rot in apples. As a companion plant, Horseradish is used to deter potato eelworm

Hazards Horseradish contains volatile oils and can be poisonous if eaten in large quantities.

Those who are pregnant or lactating, or suffering with hepatitis, acid reflux, thyroid disorders, hyperacidity and inflammatory bowel disorders, should avoid consumption of large quantities of Horseradish

Importance to other species Provides a food source for pollinators and the larvae of some butterflies

Things to note Under the Theft Act, Horseradish root cannot be harvested without permission from the landowner (this includes common land) as it involves digging up the plant

I'm going to have to post a self portrait each day if I want to finish this 52-week project on time this year.

This was taken the other day by my dad. We went to the Doi Suthep temple in Chiang Mai, and they had a viewing pavillion. It was really hot up there, but very beautiful.

We also had another tour scheduled the following day but unfortunately my hyperacidity acted up again so they had to leave me behind at the hotel T__T
