These seedlings were actually growing in the sink drain at work. I think they must have started from the tomato seeds I rinsed down the drain from my salad bowl. Amazing.

I used PVC pipes to arrange this to fit my container for my hydroponic system

Certain gifts this Christmas allowed me to build a simple aeroponics system. In aeroponics, the roots are suspended in a fog of nutrient solution. Since the particles are so small the roots absorb the nutrients at a higher rate than they would in soil or liquid nutrient solution. Since the roots are suspended in air, they also get the maximum amount of oxygen. Supposedly, aeroponics works better than hydroponics. I guess I'll find out!

 

I bought a $2 palm plant from Walmart to test the system. If it works, I'll probably grow either my tea or my roma tomatoes in it.

Automation allows for less handling and more efficient use of space.
