Every country has its own flavour but some of the things that make it what it is go totally unnoticed by the resident population.

Take fire hydrants, for example. Your reaction to this photo will almost certainly depend on where you live.

Oh, look! A hydrant taking a leak... Not really. The city's water department opened this hydrant and a few along the way so residents living around this hydrant is going to get rusty water...

Not appreciated and much neglected, someday it might be needed.

Hydrant aboard the Queen Alberni Ferry on the way from Vancouver Island.

This hydrant looks almost cartoon like. As if it is taking in a deep breath before it spits the water out.

I have always been intrigue with the fire hydrants in KLCC Park. Don't get to see these kinds of hydrants. This one is situated right in front of the back entrance to KLCC and its so difficult to take it without having people around it. I had to wait for 15 mins with my camera ready before I could find a window of opportunity (my decisive moment?). Unfortunately this was taken at about 3 PM and there are no interesting shadows. But I do see a lot of potential for some shadow work. I will go back very early in the morning. Hopefully the shadow play will be interesting and especially no people.

I took this one at f/2.8 because I wanted everything else blurred out. I htink I will experiment with the DOF next time.
