Whatever I did (or didn't do) worked ... my hydrangea's are loaded with blossoms this year. The photo is not as crisp as I would like it. I've been using my 50 mm lense, but switched to my kit lens to work on improving my photos with it. Am missing the faster lens, but the practice is good!
My hydrangea is very old and it came with the house. I have moved it from on side of the house to the other. It's a veraity that's probably quite close to the wild species, so the flowers are not that spectacular as more recent cultivars. But I think this one is more beautiful in its subtle apparition.

But if you have a few Hydrangea paniculata, your late summer garden goes from ho-hum to spectacular."
Well said, Dave. This is a pretty corner of the Agricultural Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. It's been two weeks since the fair, and this bush is really beautiful!
First of all - thanks for all the feedback on the "twins" image. I've been trying to improve/remove the glass reflections but (so far) to no avail and I may have gone too far and spoilt the original. I haven't quite given up yet.
Yesterday went along the canal near Frimley Green - this hydrangea seems to have ignored the calendar.
And finally, I've added to my discussion re horticultural/arboreal photo walks with a suggestion to visit Winkworth Arboretum tomorrow. Friends went last week ad said it was stunning.
The local pass-along clone, with very different foliage than the type, but otherwise fits the profile (see stem pic)
