Hydrangea is a genus of 70–75 species of flowering plants native to southern and eastern Asia (China, Japan, Korea, the Himalayas, and Indonesia) and the Americas. By far the greatest species diversity is in eastern Asia, notably China, Japan, and Korea.
In most species the flowers are white, but in some species (notably H. macrophylla), can be blue, red, pink, light purple, or dark purple. This colour change is due to the soil pH which affects aluminium availability. Those with blue or pink flowers tend to be blue in acid soil conditions (high available aluminium levels), mauve in acid to neutral soil conditions, and pink in alkaline conditions. To get the best flower colour, choose cultivars that give the best colours for the pH in question.
This afternoon I made 2 paper buntings from the pages of an old music sheet book... I'll hang them on the walls of our charity sale room... I'm one of the cashiers the day of the sale...
I been for the many years the happy owner of this awesome flowering plant, the only thing is that I have to wait here in PA to the middle of summer to enjoy this very fragrant flower. It attracts butterflies, but also many kinds of bees and insects, and for the birds a place to find refuge while eating their seeds, or sometimes simply to come and be hand feed.
What it is amazing to me is the amount of flowers that a bouquet can produce, but also inside the same bunch, there is a much more smaller flower that adds a special touch to the flowerhead.
Did you know that there are about seventy five species of hydrangeas and that they native of southern and eastern Asia? Here is a link with very interesting facts:

The Hydrangeas doing very well this year, although in general the heads are smaller probably due to the hot summer.
Now some have been dried and form a lovely dash of colour in the room.
Hydrangea, the name, comes from the Greek words "hydro" or water, and "angeion," or vase = water vase, they prefer a lot of water.
A very ancient plant, found in fossils going back thousands of years.
Flower lovers will know that there is a flower language.
Every sentiment is expressed in one form or another by delicate blooms.
Of course, even the experts disagree on the "true meaning" of many flowers and most have different meanings to different people.
So, while all flowers convey thoughtfulness and love, a gift of flowers for a special someone will always create its own personal meaning, too.

Hydrangea getting ready to burst into flower. Taken a couple of months ago so they would be flowering by now.

緑みから純白、赤色へと変わってゆくこの紫陽花は、アメリカ産だそうです。
This hydrangea pure white from the green body, the color of the calyx to red to change, seems the United States production.
