The Hydrangeas did very well this year, although in general the heads are smaller probably due to the hot summer.

Now some have been dried and form a lovely dash of colour in the room.

Hydrangea, the name, comes from the Greek words "hydro" or water, and "angeion," or vase = water vase, they prefer a lot of water.

A very ancient plant, found in fossils going back thousands of years.

Flower lovers will know that there is a flower language.

Every sentiment is expressed in one form or another by delicate blooms.

Of course, even the experts disagree on the "true meaning" of many flowers and most have different meanings to different people.

So, while all flowers convey thoughtfulness and love, a gift of flowers for a special someone will always create its own personal meaning, too.

HYDRANGEA - Thank You for Understanding.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your comments with all my heart, M, (*_*)

hydrangeas in Mum's front garden - maybe I should have been dead-heading them, but decided to take photos instead. While I was taking them it was just me, the camera, the light and obstructions to overcome with background etc. While processing, my mind was drawn back to their and my and Mum's story.

Memories of how Mum wouldn't allow anyone to deadhead them, because she knew best (even though she hated gardening!) and then, reluctantly as she became more and more disabled she allowed me to cut them, while tut-tutting at my more radical pruning style, but accepting that I must know what I was doing because I went (as a mature student) to horticultural college - not realising that garden designers don't learn how to prune hydrangeas. I only know what to do through experience of pruning them.

And now looking at the photo, here they are, and here I am. Mum is a memory. And it is as it is for now.

Spotted while on a morning walk. It must be hydrangea season.

Panicled hydrangea, Vipphortensia

(Hydrangea paniculata)

The hydrangea in my garden appear to be doing quite well this year. This particular one has produced an ‘ice-cream cone’ shaped bloom that was over 30cm long! That’s one foot long of beautiful, mellow creamy-white little flowerlet’s! I have another one that is quite similar in appearance but some of its little flowers have a pinky-red edge to them.

I love hydrangea!

I sometimes wonder if Hydrangeas ever stop flowering in Brittany; however I do know they do, but here is one beginning to bloom.

Better viewed large.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

Saturday Self Challenge

This week in SSC let's use a "Shallow Depth of Field"

Your subject can be anything. I would like to see a real shallow depth of field in your photo with your subject in focus and your background nicely blurred.

Please keep post-processing to a minimum this week.

I decided to make the lone leaf the centre of attention for this picture rather than the flowers. I was going to attempt this shot outside, but constant thunder storms and torrential rain soon put a stop to that idea, seems we’ve had a one in a thousand your weather event here this week. The weight of the rain on the bushes had started to knock over the large hydrangea blooms, not to be put off, and not wanting the flower heads to be ruined I cut them off and put them in a vase indoors. Needless to say it’s not the only vase now, we’ve got a house full of them, all rescued from the weather.

The vase is stood in front of a window with trees outside, the reflection of the flowers can just be seen blurred out in front of the green of the trees.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
