We found a huntsman spider lying in wait on our bedroom door. That's my thumb - this one is medium in size. I was planning to let it go outside, but Lou has sentenced it to death.
Huntsman spiders are probably the type of spider people from overseas are thinking of when they talk about how everything in Australia is going to kill you, but other than the ick factor these don't scare me much - it's the nasty little ones I worry about.
When I was in grade 5 there was a younger girl who used to find these and carry them around like pets. I remember her being bitten by one once, but it didn't do much harm.
Huntsman Spider at Ann's. It was about 11.5 cm across its leg span (yes, we measured). I think it picked up a little dust in its travels.
Ann called us over to get it out of the house because she knew that David wanted to see it.

It isn't very often you see such a colourful huntsman?. This one was sitting on the branches of an Allocasuarina humilis

First time I have visited the Animal Health Trust; it is a lovely, well maintained venue & the ideal location for a Horse Show & Country Fair.
This spider was lurking in a retreat it had constructed beneath the leaf of a shrub in my garden. It's a small huntsman, Neosparassus salacius - the species confirmed by looking at its underside, having found the same spider again the day after taking the photos.
Brown Huntsman spider, Heteropoda jugulans, underneath an elevated house deep in the tropical rainforest of Australia's Wet Tropics World Heritage Area near Kuranda in far north Queensland. This is one from my older files, and is about a hand span across.
