Found this beastie on the rear tyre of my daughters club car

Look at my cute little eyes...

This is the biggest spider I've ever seen in my life, so far.

Being a hunter in Bavaria, Germany he's taking care of the wildlife in his district. So it's not only the classical hunting which one associates with a hunter but also e.g. feeding the wildlife during winter time. In order to become a hunter in Germany one has to take theoretical and practical courses summing up to at least 120 hours. Followed by three tests of a governmental administration office. Only after passing those tests successfully a hunter is allowed to buy and carry a weapon for hunting (limited to his district only).

The shot was taken about 1 hour before sunset in a light forest under birches and oak trees. Camera right was a selft built beauty dish with a full CTO on the speedlight (at about 1/6). In order to separate from the background another speedlight at about 1/16 zoomed to 70mm with 1/2 CTO was placed left, hidden behind the tree. To compress the view a little I zoomed to around 80mm or so having the camera in manual mode at ISO 320, 1/30s, f8.

As my lens only starts to become sharp at f6.3 I decided for f8 which also causes the background trees lit by the setting sun to become more prominent. As my EOS 50D doesn't like too high ISO values, I went for ISO 320 with 1/30s giving me a nice ambient.

I have a few spiders in my home and Harry this male just hangs out in my bedroom and waits for Heidi to come and visit. Giant Grey Huntsman Spider (Holconia immanis). Guanaba, Qld, 2008.

This huntsman was hiding behind the calenedar, so march ended up being a day late.

A dead huntsman from behind the kitchen sink in Trentham. She (he?) was around for quite some time and disappeared for a little while. Then we found her :(

Climber in Huntsmans Leap, Pembrokeshire

Found during a night walk in Gunung Gading national park.

this one is about 3 cm in body length and has a redder tinge than the usual gray one around here.. nice to find a spider that you have to back away from to fit it in the frame!

The spider will be buried alive in the wasp's burrow, seen to the top left. Owen South Australia

The huntsman spider (Heteropoda venatoria) is one of the 30 arachnids on Guam. It does not build web and is called payu'ak in Chamorro. The huntsman has a hairy body and it hunts insects at night.

I thought at first it might be dead, so I gently poked at it with a stick. It wasn't dead! Pretty little thing. (I'm surprised at how good the Android's camera is at close ups.)

Certainly a brown huntsman but I'm not quite certain it's a Brown Huntsman, Heteropoda cervina. On a tree-trunk in rainforest near Bingil Bay, just north of Mission Beach.

huntsman at Pembroke Show

This little guy thought living in one of our packing boxes would be a good idea - almost gave my elderly father heart failure by running over his hand. It had really pretty abdominal markings and was quite chilled for the photoshoot although I did have visions of it launching itself onto my face Aliens style. We found it a new home outside in one of our giant gum trees.
