Former Polish resistance fighter Wanda Traczyk-Stawska (code name "Pączek") at the ceremony in Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery to commemorate the civilian victims of the Warsaw Uprising....

On 11th February there was a heightened police presence in Warsaw as farmers from the countryside converged on the city to hold a demonstration....

The ceremony is followed by a memorial march to Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery.

 

This path through Warsaw Insurgents Park ("Park Powstańców") leads to the cemetery and is lined by pillars on which are listed the names of civilian victims of the Warsaw Uprising. This one includes the name of my ancestor Edmund Miłoszewski, who was born in 1911 and lived at 22 Żytnia Street....

The ceremony is followed by a march to Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery. Marchers visit many other monuments and memorials to victims of the massacre en route to the cemetery. This Tchorek plaque outside the Orthodox Cemetery on Wolska Street commemorates approximately 60 residents of the Wola district who were murdered here by the Germans on 5th August 1944, and also the 1500 victims of the Wola Massacre whose bodies were subsequently burned inside the cemetery....
