A ceremony of remembrance is held every year on 5th August at the Monument to Victims of the Wola Massacre (In Polish: "Pomnik Ofiar Rzezi Woli"), which is located in a small square ("Skwer Pamięci") near the intersection of Solidarity Avenue (Aleja Solidarności) and Leszno Street in Warsaw.

The Mayor of the Wola district, Krzysztof Strzałkowski, spoke at the ceremony....

It surely was a delight to contemplate, the sudden and unexpected winter wonderland and other ice lined sceneries unfolding right in front of us …

Just delicate, pure, dainty and even of an untouchable fragility.

Just a few moments though, before the skating frenzy broke loose.

A melimelo of landing, spirals, hesitating footwork, groveling, legs threatening to collapse, tangled figures flattened out on the ice, all topped off with some frozen nostalgia …

Unwinding strange and intriguing human behavior as well; as if people were looking for a place to melt, to follow a hidden inner flame of courage to take some risks, to laugh spontaneously, to throw dreams and desires onto the ice and even sometimes at each other …

Delightful process accelerated by jenever, gluhwein and vodka alongside the canals or at the improvised bars.

It’s not a coincidence, it’s a cherishable remain of old, lustful habits.

In the 19th century during winters, the ice was the place to be. The place were people got drunk, gambled, flirted and even hustled. As the ice was not part of the land. Nor of the water. And thus free, of no men and no laws…

Those days people would drink a hot mixture of bockbeer, rhum, eggs and cinnamon, called zopie.

icy details

For the past weeks I have been puzzled and dazzled, will make it up to you ... shortly.

The iconic "Bird's Nest" 2008 Olympic Stadium in Beijing, China, venue of the track and field athletics events, and the opening and closing ceremonies.

A veteran of the uprising….

If you ever get close to a human

And human behaviour

Be ready, be ready to get confused

There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic

To human behaviour

But yet so, yet so irresistible

And there's no map

and a compass

wouldn't help at all

They're terribly moody

And human behaviour

Then all of a sudden turn happy

But, oh, to get involved in the exchange

Of human emotions

Is ever so, ever so satisfying

Oh oh, and there's no map

An excerpt: Sometimes, emotions can really misguide you. Emotions should be intact with intellectualism. If the intellect is separated from emotions, you are in trouble.

In Polish, “Konstytucja” means “Constitution”. The emboldened “TY” means “you” and “JA” means “me”. White and red are the colours of the Polish national flag.
