Bright-eyed & Bushy-tailed Hunter
Chesterfield County, Virginia
Significant rainfall several weeks ago brought a good mushroom crop, which squirrels loved; seen in our yard in late afternoon after another heavy rain, this fellow -- although slowed a bit by human intrusion -- found and ate a mushroom (zoom lens at 400mm on crop-sensor 80D for 640mm effective focal length). Nearing 1 foot of rain so far in August (as of August 13), mushrooms are even more plentiful now, and more rain is forecast over the next several days.

Globalism is currently working in two distinct ways. One is an attempt to submerge the world into a singular "global" political-economy. Here the corporations that power the markets have the upper hand, and so it is possible to see international architecture that now looks the same everywhere; famous franchises all over the world where the food and coffee is the same; worldwide media that is essentially controlled by six major corporations. This is the standardised, one-size-fits-all model. And I loathe it.
But there is also a countercurrent at work - often referred to as multiculturalism (though I'd rather lose the "-ism"). This is where local cultures are cherished and encouraged. Real difference is acknowledged and relationships through mutual understanding are key to a peaceful community. There are photographers working in this field in Australia right now. Here is some of their work.
From top left we have Shirin Neshat (born Iran 1957) "I am its secret" 1993 from her series "Women of Allah".
In the middle is Zhang Huan (born China 1965) "1/2 Text" where the body is inscribed.
The wonderfully colourful portrait of young African men is by Leonce Agbodjelou (born Benin 1965).
Underneath those are the evocative portraits of Greek mourners by Georgia Metaxas (born Australia 1974).
On the right we have an interesting presentation with a trigger warning. You can read all about it by enlarging this collage. It tells us a great deal about a society that is more offended by the image of a dead worker, than the fact that a real person was murdered.

" Hello again, Mom wanted to take my pic besides the human Blythe lady Zooey Deschanel. She thinks I look a bit like her. I think her fringe is much nicer than mine though and she has no frizz at all!"

The human tourists have returned and the animals are staring at us. Probably wondering if we are danger or not. Or they could be making fun of the latest crop of chatty families walking and skipping through the woodlands.
I followed this one around for a while. Once he settled onto the branch to eat a snack, I was able to capture a few well lit shots.
Earlier this month when Nikon released their D850 camera, 32 professional male photographers were surveyed on the camera’s latest features and how it would impact their work. There wasn’t a single female photographer on the list. After public criticism, Nikon released a statement revealing the details of the incident, mentioning they invited a few women photographers, but they were unable to attend, but the Internet isn’t quite ready to lay the issue to rest.
Thirty-two men and zero women is not a balanced input. When children are young, their minds are full of dreams. Every child grows up with dreams. Some dream of being artists, performers, a president, or other notable careers. Some also grow up with the dream of becoming a photographer. We have Nikon's list of 32 male photographers. In honor of Dream Day, here is Flickr's list 32 phenomenal female photographers that we'd would recommend for Nikon in the future.

Human Nature is a series I took at the Bavarian Flickr Meet Up this summer. It pictures everyone who has been there with some pieces of nature on their face, combining the beauty of nature and human.
Thank you everyone for modeling and allowing me to glue flowers and leaves on your faces <3
"The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art." So said Leonardo Davinci with his words and his beautifully detailed studies of human anatomy. Rise up on your toes and think about how those slender muscles lift up your entire body. One foot can do the job as well.
