So, our over-night voyage is over, we have arrived back in England.

In the dock next to us, things are in full swing, tugboats pushing a tanker into place.

A colourful greeting.

Hull, or Kingston upon Hull, is a port city in East Yorkshire, England.

Where the River Hull meets the Humber Estuary.

Hull lies at a naturally advantageous position for a port, on the north side of the Humber Estuary to the west of a bend southwards giving rise to (on average) deeper water; and the River Hull flows out into the Humber at the same point.

An important event in the history of Hull as a port was its acquisition by King Edward I.

In 1297, it then became the only port from which goods could be exported overseas from the county of Yorkshire.

Thus in the 13th and 14th centuries Hull was a major English port for the export of wool, much of it to Flanders, with wine being a major import.

As of 2010, the main port is operated by Associated British Ports and is estimated to handle one million passengers per year; it is the main softwood timber importation port for the UK.

Wishing you well and stay safe!

Have a glorious day and thank you, M, (*_*)

A survivor from the 1946 batch of AEC Regent II with Weymann bodies , HAT 245 was found inside Hull depot in use by the Engineering Dept - 7/8/70. The side windows seem to have been replaced, otherwise it is in original condition. This bus has survived yet again - into preservation.

To Hull & Back. Yesterday (25/03/2025) was the occasion of the annual ‘Train trip with my brother’ day out. This year we chose Kingston upon Hull, or simply Hull to absolutely everyone. Given that we only had 3 hours to explore the city, we didn’t get much further than the busiest bus station exit I’ve ever seen!! Go-Ahead’s East Yorkshire and Stagecoach East Midlands are the dominant operators and, as I hadn’t been there since 1987, there was no danger of any photo repetition some 38 years later! I’ve no idea how well I did capturing all the different bus types to be seen, but it was an enjoyable day out nonetheless.

Built in 1872 the Hull maritime museum building is a striking example of Victorian architecture. The building stands in Queen Victoria square in Hulls city centre. The museum explores the seafaring heritage of the city and it's environs. Originally the building was the headquarters of The Hull dock company.

Hull Fair is a local institution dating from 1273. It typically takes place during the second week in October and is presently one of the largest travelling funfairs in Europe. The city's main bus operators - Stagecoach and EYMS - both lay on additional services to cater for increased demand for travel. For Stagecoach, this means using double deckers on the park and ride route, providing additional buses on service 2 which is routed past the fair entrance on Anlaby Road, and extending journeys on East Hull services 8A, 10, 11, and 12 beyond the interchange to the fair entrance on weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons during the event. A weird and wonderful assortment of vehicles are drafted in from other depots within the East Midlands division to cover the increased requirement. My use of the term 'weird and wonderful' is very much in the context of present Stagecoach fleet trends, as this year's vehicles have mainly been Enviro 300s and 400s from Mansfield, Worksop, Lincoln, Grimsby, Gainsborough, and Scunthorpe depots, with a couple of B7RLEs from Skegness thrown in too.

As with last year, one of the Lincoln buses sent to Hull this year is AE07KZD (19303) which was captured at the bustling marketplace of North Point whilst operating the 14:10 12 to the city centre and Hull Fair. The vehicle is one of fourteen from this batch which are presently allocated to Lincoln having originally operated park and ride services in Cambridge.
