Saw this today & thought it was interesting that even in the milk and bread line of 1934, the majority of the men are wearing collared dress shirts, many ties to be seen, some suit jackets, nice pants, vests, pocket handkerchiefs, & the majority are wearing a fedora. One exception there in the front, but he's got the fedora (and got there early enough to already have his bag of food & be leaving).

There are two current stories circulating as to the origin of the name 'Sweynes Howes'.
one that the 11th century viking Sweyne Forkbeard, reputed founder of Swansea, somehow came to be entombed here, in a structure that obviously pre-dates the vikings by many millennia. The other, usually ridiculed, that the name is from Swine Houses as some see the dolmens as resembling pig sty's.
The story I was told locally in the 1970's was that the name was 'The Swines Holes' . The swine in this case referring to the devil. Some customs from the old religion had survived into the 17th century, with some local villagers and farmworkers celebrating springtime fertility rites here. One particular pastor of the local church wound up his congregation to attempt to destroy the stones. Great bonfires were lit under the capstones resulting in the total collapse of the southern structure, and the partial destruction of the northern.
Finally our new kitchen is finished. It's totally different from how it first was and I'm very happy with it! New wallpaper, new cupboards, new table, new chairs, new lamps, new floor......I love to be in this place!
And as we love Ikea the most stuff we bought there! They have such great things.
