Today's We're Here Challenge: Backlit Subjects
It was another Housecleaning Day, along with running some errands. OF COURSE I took photos!
Exterior painting can be a big job. Prepping usually involves cleaning and tons of masking to protect your windows, brick, shingles and walkways. Exterior surfaces often require sanding, scraping and priming to ensure that the final coats of paint will not only look great, but hold up to the elements.
Day 5:
I woke up this morning with a really bad headache, one that yet to go away. I suppose it is because we were at some friends house last night and did not get home and to bed until almost 7am. Although I had a fun time last night,
staying up all night can be draining on you.
We needed to do laundry and grocery shopping and I was in no way able to do it, so Sheri went out by herself. She is such a great girlfriend and her I am sitting in my underwear watching ”Life With Mikey” Okay, I WAS sitting on the cough in my underwear watching ”Life With Mikey”. Not too long I got off my butt, took a shower and started doing some chores. The kitchen and bathroom floors needed to be mopped and the living room needed to be swiffered.
Technically I did not use a Swiffer as we have switched over to a better product, by the name of Method. In fact a lot of our household products from household cleaners to hand,
dish and body shop are all now from Method. However I still us that term “Swiffered”. I guess I should start saying that I “Omopped”… hmmm… maybe not, does not sound right. Needs work.
I had to move furniture and such around and the gummys were forced to move into the bedroom for a bit, however a few wanted to watch me work, so I let to do that and more.
I can honestly say that not a single gummy fell off or passed out from the lemon ginger scented floor cleaner.

I suppose this is sort of a day-to-night transition.
Jacket, Dex. Dress, No Boundaries. Boots, Playhouse. Bag, Payless. Socks, Sock Dreams.
I demurely slouched my striped socks so that only a band of gray showed for an afternoon of lunching and shopping. I met Londyn at the Greenup Café and then we went to the Gap clearance center. It was my first time and I did not like it (the clearance center, not Greenup!) Although it didn’t smell like a thrift store, it looked like one. The set-up reminded me of Goodwill, except that Goodwill’s prices and merchandise are better. It was as crowded as Valley Thrift on a holiday, but, again, the payoff wasn’t there.
I think the Gap’s clothes are boring and Old Navy’s are cheap looking, but was hoping to score a funky Banana Republic piece. I was disappointed. The most interesting thing I found was a short-sleeved, navy blazer, by BR. However, it was missing all of its buttons and was still $30. I did buy a BR belt for $5, but considered it more of a consolation prize than a score. Londyn did a little better.
I erased the afternoon’s disappointment with a nap and a bout of housecleaning. By the time I headed to College Hill Coffee Company for some internet time, I was feeling downright perky. I disregarded the suspicion that I’m far too old for knee socks and put my stripey socks on display. CHCC is a funky kind of place and I was in a funky kind of mood.

Indoor Air Quality Testing San Bernardino
commercialindoorairqualitytesting.com/indoor-air-quality-...
The simple fact is that we are all at some form of risk associated with our Indoor Air Quality. Instances of the nature of toxins we are up against are distinct substances, chemical substances and fumes let alone black mold and domestic pet dander. Almost everyone linger within for a large part of our time, sometimes at home, work or class. This tends to place us all in danger of persistent asthmatic symptoms if your air flow quality is less than optimal.
Having the air analyzed by an accredited, 3rd party, neutral provider, is going to provide you with the help and advice you need to have in becoming alerted to of any hidden air quality difficulty that continues to be present in the house. The practitioner uses a completely independent certified research laboratory that utilizes technological screening tools to distinguish any adverse toxic contamination in the air of your own family home, workplace, church or school.
Here a few of the more widespread toxins and additional problems encountered indoors in a large number of present-day local communities.
1 - Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
These chemical substances are released utilizing a number of fairly common household maintenance resources. A partial list may well consist of paints, varnishes, solvents, housecleaning solutions, disinfectant, degreasing and hobby products and solutions like paste. Also just about all fuels are made of natural and organic chemical compounds which usually can discharge these substances when you make use of them. Volatile organic compounds can easily inflame your sinuses, throat and coupled with causing head pain or vomiting.
One other fairly common VOC is Formaldehyde which can be an interior air pollutant which can be quite readily measured by an interior Air Quality provider.
2 - Molds
Molds produce spores that drift in the environment, arrive at moist or wet areas and begin to grow. Breathing in or coming in contact with molds triggers signs of illness including coughing, red eyes and in some cases skin itchiness. Molds can cause asthma disorders. Believe it or not, mold is not commonly an issue, until finally it begins to thrive throughout homes and office spaces. The most effective approach to keep mold in check is usually to keep control of the interior dampness amounts.
When you're contemplating about mold testing, you most likely have a good number of typical concerns. You may want to know how you can decide upon the ideal mold testing business that you can trust to offer you reliable final results without any sort of hidden intention. As we outlined, mold spores are located just about anywhere but once the spores make contact with dampness, mold will begin to develop. Since mold is capable of having some major health and wellness repercussions, it certainly is preferred to know for certain when your household or place of work includes a dangerous mold condition.
My wife suggested I try taking some self portraits of me going about day-to-day activities, which I started doing with yesterday's commuting self portrait. Today, I'm doing some housecleaning, so I decided to capture that for my self portrait.
This one was actually a bit challenging to set up in order to get the picture I was looking for. The camera is set up on the counter underneath the cabinets with an ultra-wide angle lens, and I used a 12 second delay so I'd have time to trigger the shutter and resume my dishwashing.
I have been tagged 18 times! That's an old photo of me when I was 4. I messed that photo up when it got wet :-( That is one of my favorite childhood photos. Taken on Christmas Eve with my dad and sister. I still have the bangs and I still wear striped socks //*_*\\
1. I hail from a tiny archipelago of 1,700 islands in the Asia Pacific called the Philippines. It is the land of beautiful beaches, skinny people, wonderful climate and poor plumbing.
2. I am the youngest in the brood of four with an imaginary playmate named Wendy.
3. I was a very greedy kid. So greedy that I begged my mom to stop giving me birthday parties when I turned six. The idea of giving away candies and ice cream to other kids was too much for my greedy little hands to bear.
4. I work as an illustrator professionally. Even though it's a very coprorate-y job, I get along so well with people at work. They are my 2nd family.
5. I decided I wanted to come to the US after seeing The Neverending Story. I fell in love with Noah Hathaway/Atreyu and I resolved to find him and be his girlfriend.
6. I secretly think that I can count all the rocks and stones on earth. It's not a secret anymore and I don't think I can.
7. I am short, like Shoemaker-and-Elves-short, like always-mistaken-for-a-teenager short...and no, I don't perform tricks.
8. I used to sing and play guitar for a band called Robotballoons. We wrote and recorded 8 songs that people only heard from the radio but never owned copies. No one knows how to get hold of copy of those songs. I do. It's in my mp3 playlist. Hah...hey... I love my own.
9. I keep a bottle of Absinthe it in my kitchen cabinet.
10. I always have to spell both my first and last names every time I give it out. When people ask me how to pronounce my name I say "Judy" just to see how they'd react.
11. I hide in closets when I am upset. Thad, the hubster eventually told me to quit doing that after we saw The Grudge.
12. I am a social moth. I really rather read or watch my boring English films than hang out with people.
13 . I own the complete Bantam published Barbara Cartland books, all 183 of them. Her books gave me a wealth of proper English vocabulary. Of course, I can't employ it in the real modern world but it is quite helpful when I have imaginary tea parties with Queen Victoria.
14. I am obsessed with Thad, everything otherworldly, the 70s or anything with ties to my childhood, Blythes, vintage children's books, Europoean history, royalty throughout the history, dollhouses, gardening, housecleaning, my dog, period films, solace and Cool Ranch Doritos...not in that order.
15. I love how everything looks under an 8:00 sunlight.
16. I marvel at the kindness of strangers. I have met people here on flickr who have the potential of becoming my lifelong friends. I wish they live nearby...

Drosera bug Setocoris sp
These little bugs (2mm) walk around on the Drosera plants eating the bugs and cleaning the old bugs out of the lamina of the plant. They have a great system. One catches the bugs (the plant) and gets what goodness it needs, then the other does the housecleaning and has a feed at the same time. :)
The Redmont Hotel and Residences [3]is a 14-story-tall (160 ft, 60 m), 114-room hotel, residence and conference center located on the corner of 5th Avenue North and 21st Street in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. The Redmont, named after Birmingham's Red Mountain is the oldest hotel in Birmingham still in use. It is currently owned by Bayshore Asset Management of Tampa, Florida and, until recently, was operated as a Crowne Plaza Hotel by InterContinental Hotels Group.
History
The Redmont was opened on May 1, 1925, as a 200-room hotel with plans by architect G. Lloyd Preacher of Atlanta, Georgia. It was unusual at its time for having a private bath attached to every room as well as chilled water and ceiling fans. The "Rainbow Room" lounge debuted in 1937 and became the watering hole for an informal group of influential persons called the "Knothole Gang".
In 1946 the hotel was purchased by businessman and hotel magnate Clifford Stiles. In 1947 Stiles converted the entire top floor into a New York-style penthouse apartment for himself and his family. This elegant penthouse was complete with terraces, private elevator, a lawn for pets and was the scene of many glamorous parties. Some say that Stiles, who died in 1975, still haunts the building. In 1952, singer Hank Williams spent his last night in the Redmont on an uncompleted trip from Montgomery to Charleston, West Virginia. One of the suites earned the moniker "the Lucky Governor's Suite" when it served as the local headquarters for the successful Jim Folsom and George Wallace gubernatorial campaigns of the 1940s, '50s and 60s.
After decades of decline, the hotel was purchased in 1983 by an investment group made up of NBA players, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Ralph Sampson. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 27 of that year. A $7 million dollar renovation led to a grand re-opening in 1985. Another refurbishment in 2000 uncovered previously hidden architectural details and cleaned the exterior.
[edit] Current status
In April 2006 the Redmont's owners announced plans to convert its two uppermost floors into nine one and two bedroom condominiums with another luxury condominium in the penthouse. The condominiums will include hotel services such as housecleaning, valet parking, room service, security and bellhop assistance as well as access to the fitness center. Other plans include adding a coffee bar or doughnut shop at ground level.
The owners also dropped their association with Crowne Plaza and are currently operating the hotel, which will keep 70 to 90 guest rooms, as an independent.

What an incredibly introspective week it's been.
I've been busy doing some 'housecleaning.'
'Housecleaning of the soul' that is.
Life's been a whole lotta crazy in the last few years.
I guess I really didn't know how crazy it's been because I was kinda busy livin' it.
Reacting to it.
I stepped back in the last week and took a good hard look at how things were going.
I'll tell you what...
I feel really good right now.
There was a little business I hadda do with my soul and I did just that.
Body and soul have come to an agreement.
They're on the same page.
The craziness is gone.
The cause of all of that is far behind me and it has become irrelevant.
Yeah...
I've seen some things I wish I could 'unsee.'
But fuck it.
It ain't a problem no more.
I can only describe the last few weeks ago as spitting up a 'psychic hairball.'
That's about it.
You know how the cat makes those strange noises and does those convulsions?
You know it's gotta feel good to get rid of that hairball.
Really good.
It doesn't look too pleasant..
And it's probably not...
but you know the cat is feelin' good when that hairball is gone.
There was a 'hairball' in my life that's gone now.
And I can't tell you just how good that feels.
I didn't know what to do with myself right after all that passed I guess.
I'd been dealing with it for so long.
It had become a way of life.
It really consumed so much time and energy.
The 'hairball' is gone.
Not a problem anymore.
I spent the last week looking inward and asking myself a lot of questions.
How do I want to live?
What strategies will I implement to move towards making my dreams come true?
The energy that I put into that has paid off.
I feel like a freakin' new man.
I'm telling you it's that good.
It's time to make things happen instead of reacting to things that happen.
I feel really proactive.
My focus has returned.
My memory is sharpening.
The crazy dreams are all gone.
I've still got some work to do...
who doesn't?
But the foundation's been laid.
I want that sailboat.
I've got a plan and it's going to work.
A little more time and I'll hit the streets again.
I've missed them.
There's so much more I want to do.
And I want to do it better.
My soul stands strong.
My dreams are within sight.
I do believe it's time to set sail.
I have just spent the last 14 hours NOT doing about 9 loads of laundry and NOT cleaning Dave's house head-to-toe.
At least, that's what I will tell him, so play along, kay? I deny everything. I am not his maid!
In other news, this is the first long weekend where I have not been excited for it to be a long weekend, and just wanting it to get over with. I am utterly shocked at myself. But what can I say, hanging out alone and being domestic is not my idea of fun. Hanging out WITH someone and being domestic makes the fun factor shoot up by about +2836891638163891317 and actually IS fun.
Well, before you say I hit the crackpipe, let me clarify. When you are with someone with whom you enjoy their company, EVERYTHING is fun/pleasurable. I would rather do anything and everything with that special someone (even housecleaning and shit) than anything at all alone, if you know what I mean.
Cover art from some old, slightly musty magazines I received. Mostly includes sewing and needlepoint instruction, some cooking, some housecleaning.
Into the attic, to bake all those spores.....

I am exhausted and it is only 6! Went to see Dave's sons' soccer game, had to leave early to go get my brazilian done, went and grabbed a bagel, ran a ton of errands, came home, did a shitload of housecleaning, then I decided to treat myself to a bubble bath (with also some new cranberry body scrub I got at the spa) and a home-made pedicure (because even though I WILL be working soon, I am still unemployed!). Now I am tired and the wind is the shits and it is making my allergies go nuts but now we are on our way to see the ROCKIES SWEEP PHILLY!!!!! WOOOO!!!!!
And for once, I am not bringing my camera. I will take the requisite Dave-n-Tara pic on my cellphone, but he will have his zoom lens to catch all the action of them winning. Huzzah!
OH AND: I think I only advertised it on my gchat status the other day, but, I got the job I interviewed for on Wednesday!!! Woohoo! It is not the one I said is potentially my dream job, but it is a job I think I will really like. I start the 17th, which is a Wednesday. My mom and brother are coming from Florida this Friday and staying till Monday and I said I could not start till Tuesday but they were all nice about it and told me to take an extra day to recoup. I like them already! :-)
Longtime District of Columbia civil rights leader Francis J. Grimke publishes an open letter in the fall of 1936 entitled “The Dawning of a Better Day” predicting that current events would lead toward progress in race relations despite entrenched opposition.
The letter addressed calls by alumni to fire University of North Carolina Chapel Hill English professor Dr. E. E. Ericson after he, along with other white people, dined with Communist Party vice-presidential candidate James Ford and other black communists at Ford’s hotel room October 25, 1936.
Dr. Roy W. McKnight, president of the Mecklenburg chapter of the Alumni Association, was among those objected, calling on the school to conduct a “general housecleaning” and declared:
“I believe a university professor should enjoy the right of freedom of speech and liberality of thought; as a matter of fact, it is his duty to do so. But when a faculty member s conduct and philosophy of life become so opposed to American tradition, especially to Southern tradition as to be offensive to the sensibilities of the thousands of alumni and the taxpayers of the state, then it is time to act.”
In his prediction of a “better day,” Grimke cites the formation of a committee on freedom of conscience that rebuked calls for dismissal of the professor and a ban on interracial dining, a broad-based defense of the “Scottsboro Boys” committee in Birmingham, Al.; and a Commission on Interracial Cooperation with headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.
Grimke cities his Christian beliefs, “The Bible tells us, and what it says is true, ‘Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
Grimke was correct in his analysis as the 1930s Scottsboro campaign, initially led by the Communist Party, marked the beginning of the 20th Century civil rights movement that resulted in the end of legal segregation of schools and public accommodations, and workplace and housing discrimination.
Grimke was active in the Niagara Movement and helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909.
Grimke began his ministry at the 15th Street Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C.’s Logan Circle area from 1878-85 and from 1889-1928.
He was a participant in the March 5, 1897 meeting to celebrate the memory of Frederick Douglass, which founded the American Negro Academy led by Alexander Crummell.
He became the organization's founding Treasurer, serving in this capacity until 1919. He played an active role among the scholars, editors, and activists of this first major African American learned society, which refuted racist scholarship, promoted black claims to individual, social, and political equality, and studied the history and sociology of African American life.
He was a fixture in the city’s civil rights circles, along with his brother Archibald who served as local NAACP president, for decades.
Grimké was a brilliant, fiery orator who became the first African American leader to challenge Booker T. Washington’s policy of accommodation. He argued instead that African Americans needed to fight for the justice they deserved.
He denounced the racist policies of the “federation of white churches” and singled out the YMCA for its segregationist policies. Grimke also challenged the racial hierarchy and discriminatory practices of the Presbyterian Church. An early supporter of the Niagara Movement, Grimke helped found the American Negro Academy and served as trustee to Howard University.
He retired to Charleston, S.C. where he died in 1937.

Hello everyone, I know I've had an absence, and I guess it will continue. I've been doing more out of my computer and even taken a break from photos. I'm sure since the new year began I have taken only 10 - 20 photos in total. I had, however, just completed my 2nd full year project and seem to have a bit of burnout photography and posting. I guess my life has been an 'open book' per say, in doing these photo projects so publicly and I want to have a bit of less public time for now. I am doing well, enjoying life, just not desirous of documenting it ALL in photos!
This photo was taken just this last Thursday when I was skiing in Banff. It was my 2nd ski day of the week, having gone just the Saturday before.
There was a burning desire to get skiing in as on my return from a trip (I leave on today) I'll be getting my hysterectomy finally done! Yes... booked for the long-awaited hyster so the pain and blood loss will cease!
Oh... where am I going today? I go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! This would be the winter trip I gave me and the boys for Christmas. We are all excited and nearly fully packed, I have to go do a bit of housecleaning and then shower and go!
So... I'll likely have loads of photos from the trip... will post them later in Feb after home from the hospital.
Till then... take care... I have been thinking of my wonderful flickr friends. Feel somewhat 'guilty' for not being here, but life away from here has been busy & enjoyable.
I did some housecleaning today, but Spring Fever soon had me out & about. I am so blessed to live in the valley.
