Bilinmeyen lekeler bazen insana korkutucu gelebilir.

Housecleaning...

Built back in April or May, I think. If I didn't take photos and upload them this month, I probably never would.

Did some housecleaning over the weekend and the boys had to retreat to the yard. They sure knew how to make themselves scarce where there was work to be done!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I did some housecleaning today, but Spring Fever soon had me out & about. I am so blessed to live in the valley.

so my 2010 resolution is to clean out all the drawers and cupboards, attics and basement .... and the cats think it is their new game

For Monday Photo Challenge:

For our first challenge of the New Year, let's all give some serious thought to our 1st image of 2010 and let's all post "an "intriguing" first shot taken on or after the New Year has been rung in".

FUGGITABOUTIT!

For TRP, Spring Cleaning and for FGR, Bad Habits. My bad habit is that I would rather have fun than clean the house. So I do!

T is for Twnklmoon don't do housecleaning.

It was another Housecleaning Day, along with running some errands. OF COURSE I took photos!

The Mighty Fist of Mother Nature seemed to swat at the helicopters as they labored to bring water from the lake to dump on the fire, as though to say, "Fire is part of Nature too!" We have worked so hard to protect our National Wilderness lands from their natural fires over the last 30 or so years, that we have created a mess of overcrowded trees dying of disease, providing huge amounts of fuel for current fires. I was always a tree hugger myself, save the trees, protect our wilderness... but now I wonder as I watch what is happening if once more we threw off the balance of nature in our efforts to help...

I have been up in the hills again... and last night and today on the track of a new wildfire on the flanks of Mt. Adams... on Crofton Ridge, slightly SW side, west of last years Cold Spring Fire... last night it was only 2-3 acres traveling SE (and accompanied by lenticular clouds and the moon at sunset :).

This morning it crossed the fireline, the wind changed, and now it is traveling NW and West... at 5 pm was estimated at 25 acres and growing. This fire is not threatening any towns or structures, is in wilderness area and possibly traveling into regular Giffford Pinchot National Forest (GPNF) lands. Two helicopters, one light and one medium, were carrying water from Looking Glass Lake to the fire, and around 6pm a heavy duty helicopter joined the ranks. An air tanker dropped the occasional load of retardant on the fire as well, but flare ups were still happening rapidly as pitchy trees would ignite with a column of black smoke among the orange.

Yes, I got lots of photos... downloading now, but also running back up tonight to catch some night fire shots so not sure yet when I will share them! soon I hope.

Also saw MAMMULUS clouds and LENTICULAR clouds and sunsets and helicopters and other good things!

Here is a quote from Rita (SkagitLily) made on the first fire shot... I like how she put this:

"Why does so much destruction mar so much beauty (sigh)... Actually, I know from my studies that fire clears the way for the next rounds of ecological succession, community following community until it reaches a climax community... until it is destroyed and it starts all over again... still, I've always preferred a settled scene without the chaos of destruction. Human nature, I suppose. The whole western US is getting a refresher course in why it doesn't pay to suppress all wildfires. I wonder how many will recognize Nature's housecleaning?" ~~

This is the unedited tag entry. It was too long to post as my tag but I'm reposting it just for shyts and giggles... Well heck, since this is no longer the official tag list then I am adding to it...taking a queue from Farkletush :D

1.ORIGINS: I hail from a tiny archipelago of 1,700 islands in the Asia Pacific called the Philippines. It is the land of beautiful beaches, skinny people, wonderful climate and poor plumbing.

2. SIBLING REVELRY: I am the youngest in the brood of four. Growing up, my siblings were never around to play with because they were always in school so I made friends with Wendy, my imaginary friend. When I hear strange creaks in the house or when I lose things and find them where I had been looking earlier, I just think it's Wendy saying hi. My twin brothers and my sister are the best people in the world.

3. PRE-SCHOOL ANTHROPOMORPHISM : I was a very greedy kid. So greedy that I begged my mom to stop giving me birthday parties when I turned six. The idea of giving away candies and ice cream to other kids was too much for my greedy little hands to bear. My dad told me this cautionary tale involving turning into a crow if one refuses to share one's candies. The moral lesson I saw fit was...at least I can fly away with all my candies.

4. DO or DIE: I am a highly creative person. I have to make stuff or I will get depressed. Creating gives me a high. I work as an illustrator professionally. Even though it's a very coprorate-y job, I get along so well with people at work. They are my 2nd family. I've been working there for 7 years.

5. GEOGRAPHY and YOUNG LOVE: I decided I wanted to come to the US after seeing The Neverending Story. I fell in love with Noah Hathaway/Atreyu and I resolved to find him and be his girlfriend. The terms "stalking" and "restraining order" didn't exist in my pre-nubile vocabulary. The whole paperwork was in progress for me to come to the US but I realized that I'd miss my folks too much.

6. I ROCK.: I secretly think that I can count all the rocks and stones on earth. It's not a secret anymore and I don't think I can.

7. PX GOODS: We used to own a beauty parlor which was right across the street from a erhmmm...a house of ill-repute. Every Saturday, a tour bus full of Japanese men would arrive to take the ladies out. When the women came back from their jaunts, they'd give the neighborhood kids candies and all sorts of Japanese goodies. I marveled at those women who did nothing but sit pretty and make men smile so when one of my mom's friends asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, I told her I wanted to be like the ladies from across the street. After that, I wasn't allowed to take the candies from the ladies as if those candies had influential powers of shaping my future.

8. LITTLE FISH, LITTLE POND: I used to sing and play guitar for a band called Robotballoons. We wrote and recorded 8 songs that people only heard from the radio but never owned copies. No one knows how to get hold of copy of those songs...except me. It's in my mp3 playlist. Hah...hey... I love my own.

9. THE GREEN FAIRY. When I was in college, I was reputed to be a party girl, the kind who smoked and drank so much because I hang out with a bunch of serious drunks. So it was more of a contact drunkeness which resulted in hideous reputation by association. I never touched alcohol till I was 25 and it was a freakin' wine cooler. I realized that I never did any crazy shyts for real. It's really too late to make up for it...I have bills and mortgage to worry about. I may give myself cool points (which I do all the time, anyway) that I have drank absinthe and I keep a bottle of it in my kitchen cabinet. I am not sharing...says the crow as she flies away into the night...

10. a.k.a. JUDY: I always have to spell both my first and last names every time I give it out. When people ask me how to pronounce my name I say "Judy" just to see how they'd react.

11. SCARY ASIAN CHICKS: I hide in closets when I am upset. Thad eventually told me to quit doing that after we saw The Grudge.

12. SOCIAL MOTH: I hate social gatherings. I don't act like myself. All of a sudden I am this garrulous talkative person. I am just really masking an insecurity. I don't go out. Since I'm a transplant I have all these "new" friends in real life who are all into things I'm not. It seems like the folks who get me are those who haven't even met me. I miss my old friends and it's really hard to connect with people you don't have anything in common with.

13 .HOLD ME, THRILL ME,KISS ME: I own the complete Bantam published Barbara Cartland books, all 183 of them. I only read the books that have the covers illustrated by a certain Francis Marshall. Unfortunately, he died in 1980 and Dame Cartland still wrote books well till she died. If she could, she'd probably dictate her stories from the grave. I haven't read those books because they were illustrated by someone else. To me, a Barbara Cartland story is not complete without the Francis Marshall illustrations of simpering, virginal heroines in the arms of aristocratic stoic heroes. Also, BC books gave me a wealth of proper English vocabulary. Of course, I can't employ it in the real modern world but it is quite helpful when I go on my imaginary tea parties with Queen Victoria.

14. HEAD IN THE PURPLE CLOUDS: I am obsessed with everything otherworldly, the 70s or anything with ties to my childhood, Blythes, vintage children's books, dollhouses, gardening, housecleaning, my dog, Thad, period films, solace and Cool Ranch Doritos...not in that order.

15. HELLO SUN: I love how everything looks under an 8:00 sunlight.

16. INVISIBLE FRIENDS: I marvel in the kindness of strangers. I have met people here on flickr who have the potential of becoming my lifelong friends. I wish they live nearby...

17. EAT ME: I cannot eat anything with a face carved, imprinted, embossed, molded on it. Gummy bears, teddy grahams, character shaped cookies.... I don't want my snack to smile back at me while I bite its head off *cringes* It goes back to childhood when my brother would put faces on fruits and make them "talk" to me. Afterwards, I wouldn't eat them because they were my friends...

Here is Beefy, a day after his haircut, lying on the couch (one of his favorite spots) with a stuffed Devil that Lisa and I found while doing housecleaning Saturday afternoon!

Could it be this Devil that makes him sneak food when given the chance, and that causes him to playfully harass Sage and Princess?

Hehehe.

Beefy is definitely more of an angel than a devil!

A Striated Pardalote was cleaning out this hollow, appearing outside like this to drop a few bits of dirt or mouldy sticks, then back inside... repeat for several minutes.

That's a real big purse she is hauling. I need to do some housecleaning on my pages, definitely.

I did some housecleaning today, but Spring Fever soon had me out & about. I am so blessed to live in the valley.

I have not rambled in a while, I think I will right now!

What a week. I think we started off on the wrong foot just from needing to recover from the AWESOME 5-day-weekend with Jessi and James. The week before had been super busy at work and it did not stop. Dave was also very busy at work, and working late into the night at home, and not getting enough sleep. The first half of the week we really did not hang out at all, I mean sure we had dinner together most nights, but I went to bed alone a few times and I HATE that.

I got back into taking baths. As many may know through me personally or by my photos I am a LUSH addict. I had a bunch of bath stuff sitting there, and well, we have a gorgeous master bath with an awesome tub and I think Dave mentioned no one had ever used it until I did. So...with Dave being busy and me being stressed I decided to take an hour for me every night. I brought in candles as there is ample stone all around the edges, and turned off all the lights, and used different products each night. I did not take a bath Thursday due to the debate or tonight because of what we did tonight.

We did get some time Wednesday and Thursday to watch some DVD's - we have all 5 seasons of Alias on DVD and Dave loved that show and I had never really seen it so we started from S1 and are working our way through. After watching several Wed+Thurs we are now totally done with S3. We were going to watch some tonight but Dave was super tired so he promised me some alone time tomorrow night before my trip.

I had to leave work early today for a Doctor appointment (a follow-up from my girly surgery in January), and went to Old Navy to look for a cheap suit for the business trip I am going on Sunday-Wednesday. I did not get a suit, but the whole frickin' store is on sale (and they have to be, with the economy such shit), and I got 11 items for $100. One whole work outfit and the rest work/casual wear (I wear jeans to work all the time but I needed nicer stuff for this conference, and as I have not had a job that required super fancy clothes in so long, well I just don't have them. Just the shoes ;-) )...came home and had dinner w/Dave & the kiddos, then there was room cleaning by kids and laundry by me and housecleaning by me and Dave and then it was time to put the kids to bed then we were going t watch Alias or something and Dave was sleepy. So we came here to bed (where I am typing this and he has long since passed out) and he read a magazine while I edited this photo on the MacBook Pro. Sunday morning I leave for my trip, and come home Wednesday night. I will miss the kids and Dave a lot, and our BED. I DO get to meet up with KB, though, so yay!

And finally the BED. It got here while Jessi and James were here. It is so perfect. So wonderful. Firm back support but a 5 inch plush foam layer on top then a 2 inch pad, Silky 500 thread count NEW sheets. Same quilt, but I like it. It has that anti-bounce thing - Jessi was jumping all over one side of the bed and I could not feel it laying next to her!

I SLEEP through the night. I sleep soundly. I do not wake with back pain (still get it during the day but do not wake in pain). And, for the mental part, I am the only woman who has (and if up to me, will) sleep in this bed, with this bedding. I have technically lived in THIS house longer than she ever did, but a purchase like this speaks volumes and to me, just adds more that I am here to stay and I am the woman in his life now. I mean we get along with her and all and we will have many more years of interaction as the kiddos are only in grade school, but now I feel even more like this is the home of Dave and Tara, and it feels SO good.

And this bed is so nice I fell asleep while typing this. I mean it! Look at the time of the photo, and I am uploading it around 11-something pm. Oops. I think I will have to turn this thing off and go cuddle with that amazing, sexy, wonderful, one-of-a-kind, dream-come-true, and uh, sleeping man next to me :D

Mad for Mod

Sacramento Mid-Century Modern Home Tour returns

WEB ONLY MAY 2, 2016 By Laurie Lauletta-Boshart

"Thanks to popular shows like AMC’s “Mad Men” and trendy publications like Elle Décor and Dwell, mid-century modernism is experiencing a revival. This significant design movement depicting mid-20th century architecture, furniture and graphic design, has grown from a small, subgroup of enthusiasts to more mainstream recognition, and Sacramento has its own committed following of mid-century devotees who subscribe to the time period’s iconic style.

“More people are aware of the mid-century modern lifestyle now, particularly because of how often it is being depicted in popular culture,” says Gretchen Steinberg, founder of Sacramento Modern, a non-profit dedicated to preserving and protecting modern art, architecture and design in the Sacramento region. Steinberg has tapped into that passion by organizing home, bike and walking tours of our city’s modernist style. One of SacMod’s most popular events, the Sacramento Mid-Century Modern Home Tour, is back for 2016 and takes place just once every three years.

The first tour in 2010 was initially organized by three South Land Park neighbors, including Steinberg, and featured some of Sacramento’s most architecturally significant homes. The tour quickly sold out. “We weren’t sure what to expect that first year, but it has really taken off and grown,” says Steinberg who lives in a home from the mid-century era.

Steinberg knows many of the area’s period homeowners, but when she spies a new home being renovated, she’ll stop to say hello. That’s how she met Los Angeles transplants David Crowe and Barbara Shepard. The couple had purchased a 1950 Blomberg Westerner blockhouse with no functioning plumbing, sagging cabinet doors and knee-high weeds. Their real estate agent deemed it a total tear-down. “The house had essentially been abandoned for six years and was falling apart,” Crowe says, “but the original architectural design was still intact.” They set about restoring the 1,081-square-foot home to its mid-century glory, careful to stay within the home’s original footprint.

Four months after completing the painstaking renovation, Shepard was relaxing on the front porch when Steinberg stopped by to hand out some literature about the 2013 tour. “I invited her in and showed her around,” she says. Before the pair finished talking, Shepard agreed to open her home for the 2013 tour. This year, the couple will be going on the tour as attendees.

Another stop on the 2013 tour was G Leyva-Brown and Kelly Leyva-Brown’s 1955 Eichler home. Since purchasing the home in 2007, the pair have become mid-century enthusiasts. When they originally drove by the house, it was a mess. The driveway and sidewalks were cracked and the yard was covered with overgrown weeds and trees. “You couldn’t even see the house,” G Leyva-Brown says. The couple began renovations, endeavoring to stay true to the Eichler style, while adding a few modern conveniences and landscaping the front and back. In 2013, they were asked by SacMod to be on the tour and were ready for others to see their home. “We were a little nervous, but it turned out to be a great experience,” Kelly says of the tour. This year, they will serve as docents for a former Boston couple who purchased their Sacramento Eichler home sight unseen. “They are doing all the work themselves and it’s coming out beautifully,” G Leyva-Brown says.

Veteran tour attendees David Hamon and Will Peterson purchased their 1965 ranch-style home in 2002 and began renovations that were mostly cosmetic, adding color to the bland white walls and pairing vintage and modern era furniture. Their biggest undertaking has been a backyard renovation. After years of jotting down ideas on cocktail napkins and flipping through mid-century editions of Sunset, the pair hired Stephen Crouse of SMC Landscape Design in Gold River to implement the design. “Stephen has been able to take our ideas and improve on them to give us a backyard that blends the best elements of mid-century and modern design,” Peterson says.

After much coaxing, Hamon and Peterson agreed to open their home for this year’s tour. “We were hesitant at first because our home is different than an Eichler, but Gretchen and others really encouraged us,” Hamon says. “If nothing else, it forces you to do a really good housecleaning!”

William Ellis Russell (b. October 21, 1948) is a former shortstop, coach and manager in Major League Baseball. Russell played his entire 18-year, 2,181-game career with the Los Angeles Dodgers as the starting shortstop for four National League pennant winners and one World Series championship team. He also served as the team's manager from 1996 to 1998.

A right-handed batter and thrower, Russell came to the Dodgers as a 20-year-old outfielder in 1969, and his first two MLB seasons were spent in the outfield (veteran Maury Wills was the Dodger shortstop). During the 1970–71 offseason, Russell was converted to a second baseman, and then – the following year – to shortstop, becoming a regular in 1972. Russell was the club's everyday shortstop for the next eleven years, anchoring an infield that included third baseman Ron Cey, second baseman Davey Lopes and first baseman Steve Garvey. This infield crew has the distinction of being the longest intact unit in baseball history with eight and a half seasons together.

Russell's finest Fall Classic was in 1978, when he garnered 11 hits and batted .423 in a losing effort against the New York Yankees.

Russell was hit in the hand with a pitch in September 1980 by Mike Lacoss of the Cincinnati Reds, shattering his right forefinger. He had the finger surgically repaired but was never really the same player afterward and retired in October 1986. Only Zack Wheat played more games as a Dodger and no one in the West Coast portion of Dodgers history has played more games.

In June 1996, Lasorda suffered a mild heart attack and Russell was named acting manager. Although Lasorda's health recovered, the Dodger front office decided to make Russell's appointment permanent on July 29, thus making him only the third man to manage the Dodgers in 43 years. When the 1998 club stumbled to a 36–38 start – and with the News Corporation poised to buy the team – Russell was fired on June 21, 1998 along with general manager Fred Claire in a general housecleaning, ending a 30-year association with the team.
