Hound Tor is on Dartmoor, about three miles north-east of Widecombe in the Moor. It is a good example of a heavily weathered granite outcrop. It is easily accessible, situated within a few minutes from the B3387 between Bovey Tracey and Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The site is administered by Dartmoor National Park Authority for English Heritage as it includes the ruins of a medieval village, Hundatora, alongside prehistoric works of stone construction nearby.

Spotted this leaf doing an impression of a hound dog on a recent autumnal stroll through my local woods, well it's great to spot an image in nature that reminds one of something else entirely, it's called pareidolia, I often see faces in the trunks of trees for instance.

I do hope other people can see my doggy face in my autumnal image today, I spotted him straight away hiding amongst the fallen golden leaves, I love it when that happens.

"Hound dog"

"I'm feeling rough,

may soon be dark,

autumn tis' here,

trees haven't lost their bark,

I knows I'm not real,

merely just a spoof,

but hark! but hark!

I gave a leafy woof".

After a perilous time in Wistmans wood we headed for easier pickings, The wind was with me again so I popped the drone up.

The Transylvanian Hound is good-natured, courageous, and enduring. At his foundation, he is quiet and even, but also determined and lively. The environmental conditions of the Carpathians made the breed a tough, brave dog.

If you wanted a place on Dartmoor that is surrounded by history and mystery then look no further than Hound tor. The whole area in and around the tor is famed for its ghosts and nearby are the ancient dwellings and graves of their time. The tor is an example of one of Dartmoor’s ‘avenue tors’ as it consists of two separate rock masses which lie on a north-westerly alignment. The highest point of the tor is on the south-westerly pile which stands at 1,358ft (414m). The name was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ‘Hundatora’ and is thought to have taken its name from the animal name ‘hound’.

Found this on the web - beautiful Afghan!

Hound Tor is in Dartmoor Devon, so called as many of the rocks on the summit have been weathered to look like forms resembling the heads of Hounds peering down on those below, if you look hard enough i can see two :)

Hound Tor is one of the most famous attractions on Dartmoor. The story goes that it was created when a mighty hunter called Bowerman interrupted a coven of witches with his pack of hounds. The witches responded by turning the hunter and his hounds to stone. Hound Tor is reportedly the site that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Hound of the Baskervilles.

A portrait of Jakob our Trailhound. It is very unusual to get him standing still for long enough to get a portrait!!

Another one from Hound Tor located in Dartmoor, Devon England.

Captured in Sept. 2002 with an Olympus 2100, 2 mp superzoom bridge camera.

Edited today on the desktop.

This one a Pano created with 5 images in Photoshop.

In addition to PS I used Viveza and and Color Efex Pro for the color editing. Then into Alien skin's exposure for black and white editing.

Have a color version that I like a lot might post it in the future sometime.

This images seems a bit too crispy for my liking, might try a redo in the future. While a great camera for its time, the 2 mp limit can only be fiddled with just so far. Lots contrasty edges and noise in the darks can really be accentuated with editing.

Still really happy I located this old CD full of 2mp images from a great trip. Seems like ages ago now. esp. when I look into the not so wrinkled eyes and foreheads of our funny selfies from back then.
