This is a photograph from the 6th annual Longwood Village 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs 2015 which were held in Longwood Village, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 18th October 2015 at 11:00. This is the sixth year which Longwood GAA/Village have hosted race events. This year's event was an outstanding success and builds on the fantastic success of last year's race. The overall number of participants, including walkers, was over 440 which is up on last year's final numbers. There was over 220 runners and joggers in the 10KM while there was almost 200 runners, joggers and walkers in the 5KM. The events were organised as fundraisers for both the adult and juvenille teams at Longwood GAA club. The event also provided a fundraising opportunity for the local St. Vincent de Paul charity. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and it is sure to grow next year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants today.

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway. The weather was almost perfect for road running. A beautiful crisp autumn morning with dry cool conditions. 5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.
10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Dargan's Pub and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. Perspectives/IIT Math & Science Academy (MSA) hosted Tiffany Griffin, an IIT graduate, on Thursday, February 20, 2014, to speak with Dean's list high school and middle school students about her path toward a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) career.
Ms. Griffin spoke about how challenging college mathematics, chemistry, physics and other physical sciences courses can be. Unlike the students at MSA, she didn’t receive a lot of STEAM course offerings in high school. She encouraged students to pursue their dreams in a STEAM related career.
“I love to solve complex problems, and having a strong knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics makes it even easier to do,” said Griffin.
Ms. Griffin initiated a monthly speaker series organized by Illinois Institute of Technology and MSA leadership to expose students to various STEM careers.
“It is the mission of Perspectives/IIT Math & Science Academy to educate students for rewarding STEM careers,” said principal Julie Puzon. “And, we’re equally concerned with preparing our students for life through the A Disciplined Life Education Model.”
The A Disciplined Life curriculum helps students develop positive self-perception, healthy relationships, and the tools for productivity.

A great number of people have recently arrived in Nyal payam, coming in the last weeks for fear of their safety amidst insecurity, despite a recently-signed peace accord.
At least 78,000 people displaced in Koch, Leer, and Mayiandit counties have arrived in Panyijiar County of Unity State as a result of continued fighting, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
According to the agency, insecurity and lack of access to vital supplies to South Sudanese was making it hard for humanitarian actors to deliver the necessary assistance to the most affected groups of displaced persons in parts of the country.
Fighting resumed last month despite a signed peace accord between the South Sudan government and the armed opposition forces led by the country's former vice president, Riek Machar.
Over the past month, insecurity and lack of access to vital supplies have continued to force South Sudanese to flee in search of safety, assistance, and protection, said OCHA.
In August, the report says, there was increased displacement of people due to fighting in and around Koch, Leer, and Mayiandit counties in Unity State and Wau Shilluk in Upper Nile.
As offensives continue between forces loyal to both factions in the south of Unity State, 18,000 people reportedly reached Nyal payam in Panyijiar in search of food and safety in recent weeks. This was in addition to the numbers who had fled there prior.
The World Food Programme (WFP) is providing food and nutrition assistance to the area; UNICEF is also present on the ground to treat severe acute malnutrition and to help with other various needs, including childhood education.
The host community has taken in those displaced, whether by welcoming them into their homes or by sharing land, food, and other resources.

The host plant for Monarch butterflies is the Milkweed. This is where the female Monarchs lay their eggs. It is a larval food for the Monarchs. Their caterpillars feed on the plant. Then, the Milkweed poison is stored, making this butterfly poisonous to birds. Of course, the Monarch helps with the pollination process of Milkweed.

The Iowa Interstate was a friend to steam and railfans during a HOT weekend in July 2011. Not only were they one of the host railroads for Train Festival 2011, but they opened up their mainline to multiple fan trips. NKP 765 West brings her train back from a trip to Bureau while the real moneymaker is IAIS 501 East with CBBI's train for Blue Island waiting on the siding in Carbon Cliff, IL. What a great show!

Hosted by the Phoenix Comicon fan group the Blue Ribbon Army (BRA), this adult fantasy-themed event featured music, dancing, special themed drinks, and surprises. All of the proceeds benefited Kids Need to Read. As you can see, party goers danced the night away!
Hajvery University hosted one day National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance. The National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance was attended by prominent speakers who shared their views with the Audience.
The keynote speakers discussed that interest in Islamic banking has grown considerably during the last decade. The main issues of concern are the conceptual framework and viability of interest-free banking, and the assessment of its performance and future. In a world where conventional interest-based finance is the dominant framework, Islamic banking faces many challenges that must be addressed.
The purpose of the National Conference on Islamic Banking & Finance is to analyze the past experiences of Islamic banks, to provide an objective assessment of their success and failure, and to discuss the contemporary issues and challenges confronting them.

An essential feature of Islamic banking is the prohibition of interest (“riba”). The interest-free Islamic banking is based on the concept of profit-and-loss sharing, where the lender shares losses with the borrower. The question is whether this system can be relevant in the world of revolutionary, technology-driven global finance. Islamic banks mushroomed across the world. Many conventional banks nowadays have Islamic windows or separate branches that deal with Islamic financial products. The fact that Islamic banks have been around for the last decades and continue to prosper is a proof of the viability of Islamic finance in a world dominated by interest-based banking.

Habitat: stony roadside of a dirt road; calcareous, skeletal, stony ground, sunny and dry place, moderately inclined mountain slope, south aspect; exposed to direct rain; elevation 1.300 m (4.260 feet); average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 3-5 deg C, pre-alpine phytogeographical region.
Substratum: soil among rocks and in rock crevices.
Place: Next to the dirt road from village Livek to Mt. Matajur, near Planina Matajur, East Julian Pre-Alps, Posočje, Slovenia EC.
Comment: Saxifraga hostii ssp. hostii is an endemic member of large genus Saxifraga containing numerous marvelous, mostly alpine pants. It is actually not a true high mountains species, since it can be found fully developed and in full bloom in Trenta valley below 500 m elevation. But it also climbs to alpine elevations well above 2.000 m. Habitus, leaves and inflorescence are much similar better known Saxifraga crustata, but it is larger in all its parts. The tallest plants can be more than 50 cm high and hence belong to the tallest members of this genus in the Alps. It can be found in northeast Italy, Slovenia and south Austria. Actually it is a sub-endemic plant because one can find it also in some places of Dinaric Mountains (Ref.1.). Slightly different subspecies Saxifraga hostii ssp. rhaetica grows in a limited region of south Alps in Italy.
Flowers of Saxifraga hostii ssp. hostii are generally white, however sometimes the petals are decorated with beautiful, tiny red dots as shown in my picture. Such dots appear also on other species of this genus. Saxifraga hostii ssp hostii is a perennial plant. During the winter, if not covered by snow, its leaves get beautifully colored.
