Kinloch, Island of Rum. The weather was not at all favourable but this evening was just great to study geology.

Linus relaxing on a wooden bookcase in the living room. It has been a stormy and rainy day and he was watching the plants dancing in the wind in front of the living room window. Watching the weather seems to have a hypnotizing effect on Linus as he didn't move for an eternity which is quite unusal.

Sunset in Sa Rapita

I had read about this camera (Canon PowerShot SX70 HS) and its great superzoom, 1360mm equivalent in 35mm.

I thought it would be a good choice for shooting birds into the distance and to avoid to carry on my heavyweight Tamron 150-600mm lens.

It was a great error. Please, DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA !!!!

The camera has not a good aperture and the maximun speed is only 1/2000s. Anyway I bought it.

After to try it, the results have been horrible.

Its sensor is very small and the noise in every photo is too big, EVEN SHOOTING at ISO 200.

Moreover, the sharpness in photos is not good, and is worse after edition to trying to correct the noise.

Dreadfully cute

===================================================

Nobody, even less the author, had seen these pictures until now. Until I've developed them in the dark room.

This façade is the only useable picture in a quite damaged roll of film. It had been completely damp at some point (the backing paper was glued to the film), and it was wrinkled so I almost couldn't load into the reel. The pictures were probably taken in the 40's or 50's of the XX Century.

They call "found film" at those images in film or plates that are find undeveloped inside old cameras or in other places, like boxes or old houses.

This film is part of a large pack I bought in the internet from somebody in Barro, near Angouleme, France.

This one was a 127 format Kodak Verichrome film, produced from 1931 to 1956; stand developed with HC110 in c.10 minutes.

sorry, sorry...I'm a horrible contact, I know :(

This year was horrible as far as roses go. My flower bed ... and the whole region, was full of mildew and the like (some plants have a different kind of fungus). I tried my best to keep everything alive (not the mildew). It honestly didn't help to enhance my mood. Last year I had so many rose photos. This year I don't even have ten rose photos I think.

Waimakariri River and Mt Horrible (centre), Arthurs Pass National Park, New Zealand

After a day of fine weather then rain as we crossed from the West Coast to the East Coast of the South Island on our recent trip (read all about the trip and see more pretty pictures on my blog: www.ankhphotography.net/blog ), we managed to catch some colour in the sky over the Waimakariri River at Klondyke Corner, near Arthurs Pass, at sunset.

Horrible lighting, but trying to submit for theme before the next.

Storm and torrential rain, Linus can't believe what he is seeing when he looks out of the window today. THE BIRDS are hiding, instead all kinds of strange things are flying by, things which usually don't fly, like wheelie bins and their contents. In this kind of weather you happily are an indoor cat for a day or two. You wouldn't want to stand in the way when the next wheelie bin comes around the corner !

Burnt Meadow, Brownfield, Maine.

I don't know, I tried to take some foliage shots today at Burnt Meadow in Brownfield and they all turned out horrible.

I used two different cameras and the photos shot with both showed the same effect, the foliage is all fuzzy and distorted, maybe it was because of the harsh sunlight, I just don't know.

I apologize, my foliage photos are usually much better than this, I can't explain it !

While waiting on PDHCB, I got a quick eye with an approaching GE lead coal train, but a little after The train ended, I got word from my Buddy that was boarding the train was now due out of Fairfax after last light, so.. This is all I could give you guys today. Better luck next time.

I love autumn! I didn't think it would really feel like autumn down in Florida, but it does. The air is heavy. The early mornings are cool and crisp. The ground is covered in dew and steaming. There is a bit of fog in the air in the mornings and evenings. I've missed those fall mornings.

I found this live oak tree in Homosassa Springs.

Should have posted this last week for Halloween. I just love the creepy, twisted shapes of these trees. This was a foggy morning, just as the sun started breaking through.

I can't believe it's election day already. It feels like only about......... 900 DAYS that we've been hearing political crap before the election!!! Time to go cast my vote for Ralph Nader.

This election campaign has given me an idea for my photography. Rather than try to make my photos better, I just need to start saying nasty, horrible things about all the other photographers I know. Then nobody will want to look at their photos. I will be the most popular photographer out there!

I'm Mike Jones and I approve this message.

This is one of those photos that after scanning I realized just how badly I need a new scaner around. The shadows are horrible, especially in areas between midrange shades and shadows. Its like it takes my nice looking prints and turns them into a cheap digital mess. These areas, the dark shadows, in digital imagery are still easily its weakest point in my eyes and is why I've gone back to film. Sad thing is that even the developing place im using for color developing (like most these days) is using a digital process to make the prints from my film... just cant get away from it :)

So, aside from the shadow and color issues there is also the inhumane amount of time spent removing dust and such which is actually inside the scanner now... frustrating. yes. But its what I have available to me at the moment, such is life.

Well,

The black cat still have a terrible look?

I bought some fabric last week thinking it would be great to make some dresses for Punzie.

But it is horrible to work with.

It's stiff, and it comes apart.

Still I wanted at least one picture with her wearing the dress.

I believe I'm going to use the rest of the fabric to make pillows or/ and couch pillows.

Constructing the couch is my weekend project, along sewing two more dresses.

Also as you can see the curlers weren't much of a succes.

Well they were last night, gorgeous volume, but after a night spending in her transportation book storage thingy it ended up a mess.

So she got a small shower after all :S

Apologies for slight blur, DEAL WITH IT!

I am ambivalent about zoos. I've seen horrible conditions in small city zoos, mostly in the east, and I've seen the best of them, the best of which is the San Diego Zoo which did its best to provide sufficient land for the larger beasts. But then, I was never a fan of Sea World and having dolphins and orcas which should be swimming in the Pacific, not some pea-sized tanks. Basically, I admire any zoo where I can see animals that I know I will never see in the wild. Perhaps that's why I do love the large aquariums such as in Monterey and Seattle and Chicago. Oddly, I never visited the one in Boston which would have been an easy drive, but I was working as an intern at Woods Hole on the cape so the need to get on a two-lane road and get another ticket (whole 'nother story) going to Boston ... unless I was going on a date that started with a dinner at the best Chinese restaurant on the whole east coast (yes, I ate at many on the east coast), The House of Roy on Tyler Street. That I remember the name after 62 years and all of "Column B" shows how amazing the food was or perhaps that an 18 year old has a palette of plastic at that age.

So, one day after being stuck at home "recovering" from a pacemaker implant (yes, mine; I'm not that empathic) when a friend asked if I'd like to go to the Oakland, CA zoo which had recently truly upgraded, I said yes if he drove. I was especially interested in "prairie dog town," but when we got there, I must have spent well over an hour at Meerkat town, watching the antics and interactions of the "kats." Fascinating. Knowing that I'd never go to Africa, and eager to give our SX50s workouts, I must have taken over 1,000 shots and half of them of meerkats. Sorry, but they're going to have to give the elephants and other large mammals a hell of a lot more space before it gets my unwanted and unasked for approval. (The elephant logo of the Oakland A's came in part from the team's and Tony LaRussa's relationship to the zoo.)

Back to the meerkat. The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) or suricate is a small carnivoran in the mongoose family. It is the only member of the genus Suricata.[3] Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years, and about 6–7 years in the wild.

So the question is, is the increased life expectancy of many if not most animals in zoos worth the cramped quarters? I can't answer that. I suggest you all read, Sy Montgomery's book, "The Soul of the Octopus," a book recommended to me by James two weeks ago. The best book I've read in years, so good that I "milked" the reading, but still finished in three evenings. I'm saving it for another read in a month or two, and then pass it on (sorry, Sy) to my grandson although it may be a little advanced for an 11 year old. But maybe not. I was still learning to tie my shoes at 11 ... in preparation to wearing shoes with no laces or velcro after 70! (Funny, when I was putting on my hiking shoes this morning - to go to a doctor's appointment - I broke the laces, not easy for laces that are looped, not tied. Best shoes ever, btw, but I digress.) Digression's over, and the sun's peeking through and it's time I got some exercise if I didn't catch something from the 40 people hacking and coughing and sneezing and wheezing at the cardiologist's office, and that doesn't include him and me!

Camp Aranzazu is located in Rockport, Texas (camparanzazu.org/) If you are looking for a good charitable organization to make donations or know of individuals with special needs who would benefit from the services provided, look them up. Anyway, I am fortunate enough to have a friend involved with the organization and got special permission to go (no events in session) and take some photos. This huge horrible thistle was blooming and caught my eye.
