Gent mechanical. Bells & whistles with stopwatch.

An advertising clock with history. It was set up over the jeweller's shop of L Beha and the shop, established in 1880, came to be known as "the shop under the clock". On the death of the last Beha in 1914, the shop was taken over by his business partner Edmond Needham who ran it until 1957 when the shop was bought by Mason Williams who added his name to the clock. Today, the shop is an Italian restaurant.

The clock was supplied by J. Smith & Sons, of Clerkenwell, London, around 1890 and a catalogue of 1880 to 1910 shows the clock and Victorian ornamental bracket in detail. It would appear that the likely cost was £60/68 ex works. J Smith & Sons made all types of clock from 1780 until 1938.

Plaque on tower reads: Situated on one of Rome's seven hills in the center of the city and atop the first water reservoir. The reservoir was designed by Mr. John Noble to serve the new water syster installed in 1871. The pictureseque clock was made by the E. Howard Clock company of Waltham, Mass. and was shipped to Rome on October 7, 1872.

I got a new watch today to shoot AND....I got this idea to send off to the printer 20+ of my stock images to be used as backgrounds for my tabletop photography...along with I went to the local "rock shop" which I guess is pretty well know throughout the US and bought a variety of cool rocks to use to stage the watches.

As a watch nerd, you would think it is enough to just focus on the watch collection...NO...then, you get crazy with straps and bracelets, etc. This Roland Sands Commemorative watch came with a really nice brown Norween leather strap but it just wasn't my vibe...so, today I switch out some straps....this camo velco did not end up being the final choice but some fun images.

Also, I found this really great dude on Etsy and I told him of my dilemma with watch stands that most all stands position the watch at 60º which is not good in a studio setting due to unwanted light reflections on the watch crystal. So, I did a rough "sketch" in Photoshop and he modified his 3D printing file to produce this so the watch now sits at 90º. It is also an elongated egg shape which also now always me to showcase the strap as well. This guy is good and he does alot of great custom work for very reasonable prices!
