I spotted this building whilst wandering around Nottingham last week, not sure if it was residential apartments, student accomodation, offices or a mixture of all three. It was a very large and dominating building in the centre.

I am still struggling to convey this extraordinary scene effectively but here is the latest version. ... Returning to Wilpena Pound but camping at nearby Upalinna Station we were startled to see this rainbow like haze extending horizontally across the north eastern face of the Pound. It brought to mind the legend of the Rainbow Serpent, although not specifically a local legend. Nonetheless "According to the stories of the Adnyaantana people of the Flinders Ranges, at the end of the Dreamtime the bodies of 2 Arkaroo were changed into the steep walls that surround Wilpena Pound, their spirits became large, multicoloured creatures with manes and beards that inhabit a waterhole at the entrance to the pound. It is said that during the Dreamtime the 2 Arkaroo heard that the first circumcision ceremony was to be held at Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. They decided to destroy the people so they travelled to the Pound and waited until the ceremony was finished. They surrounded the people who had gathered for the ceremony and used very powerful whirl winds to sweep the people into their mouths. The only survivors were Wala the wild turkey, Yulu the kingfisher and the initiate." ( austhrutime.com/great_serpents_eastern_australia.htm ) It is easy to imagine that a view such as this could have inspired such a story. On a scientific level a horizontal rainbow is said to be a very rare event belonging to high altitudes, ice crystals and a specific angle of sunlight... Very different to this situation where I think the morning mist rising was probably catching the sunlight.... Although the image looks a little HDR I have tried to make it look as close to how we saw it… as natural as possible that is….

Not a believer in power naps but maybe a misjudgment ?

This fellow was growing out the side of a tree. I must have taken 40 photos before I got one I liked. Have a look at the large version of this one -- the detail is amazing.

One more image from my night standing out in a storm watching the light show.

A beautiful day spent beachside with the Famous Flickr Five+ in Brighton and one very cool sculpture along the Brighton beachfront. I forgot to get the name of the sculpture and artist so if anyone else got it today I'd love to know.

Update thanks to Andrew: sculpture is called "Summertime" by Anne Ross.

The approximately 3,000 m² horizontal sundial is located on the southern plateau at a height of about 140 m above sea level. An eccentrically positioned, 8.50 m high stainless steel obelisk serves as the pointer, casting its shadow on the circular surface with a diameter of 62 m. The surface is modelled on the solarium of the Roman emperor Augustus. The surface, which is modelled on the solarium of the Roman emperor Augustus, consists of light-coloured paving stones. It is criss-crossed by 20 cm wide strips of black paving. This very precise design enables the visitor to read the time (True Local Time) and the date accurately in suitable weather conditions. For this purpose, numerous explanations have been embedded in the surface. A special feature is that the surface is absolutely flat. To prevent the formation of puddles, porous paving was used through which the water can pass into the subsoil.

A little build for the STEM building contest on LEGO Ideas. Built in black from my table scratch, the model can be built in red from existing bricks, and in blue with black cylinder. The motion may be powered by hand, or by a wind-up motor.
