I'm off to catch up with your beautiful work my friends. Have a great week!

Spanish postcard by EFB, no. A-16.

Hoot Gibson (1892-1962) was a pioneering cowboy star of silent and early talking Westerns and one of the 1920s' most popular children's matinée heroes. In his real life, however, he had a rather painful rags-to-riches-and-back-to-rags career.

Bristol's celebrated hoot for peace heroine and companion.

Owl and tree applique.

Coyote Hills RP, Fremont, CA

This acrylic painting depicts an owl with a highly stylized and abstract design. The owl is divided into two distinct halves, each with different color schemes and patterns. This painting is interesting due to its use of contrasting colors and symmetrical division, creating a visually striking and unique representation of an owl.

Burrowing Owls in Cape Coral, Florida

This guy was in "rehab", being all lazy and perching as animals in rehab tend to do.

Day 303

The past few weeks have been great for spotting barred owls.

A bit grainy but I managed to catch this guy being miffed that I managed to catch him.

Barred Owl, Flamingo Gardens, Davie, FL

The Barred Owl, Strix varia, is a large typical owl. It goes by many other names, including eight hooter, rain owl, wood owl, and striped owl, but is probably known best as the hoot owl.

Close-up of a barred owl in Richmond, VirginiaThe adult is 44 cm long with a 112 cm wingspan. It has a pale face with dark rings around the eyes, a yellow beak and brown eyes. It is the only typical owl of the eastern United States which has brown eyes; all others have yellow eyes. The head is round and lacks ear tufts, a distinction from the Short-eared Owl. The upper parts are mottled gray-brown. The underparts are light with markings; the chest is barred horizontally while the belly is streaked lengthwise. The legs and feet are covered in feathers up to the talons (from Wikipedia - The Free Encyclopedia).

He looks like a living CCTV and was quite cooperative enough to have his portrait done during our recent visit to a local zoo. This is one of my animal portrait collections which proved to be among my more memorable shots when I entered it in our club's photo contest that featured back-lighted photos.

I don't remember the species...anyone?

Vilma, the barred owl. Born in 2002, she is a stunning owl and known for beak snapping during educational programs. Barred owls are large, nocturnal inhabitants of the deep woods and swamps. They are very vocal and can produce an amazing assortment of sounds, including booming hoots. They nest in tree cavities and are currently on the threatened species list in New Jersey because of loss of habitat. New Jersey being the most densely populated state in the USA.

All film, all sooc. I may edit this just for fun later on, but for now, I like it as it is.

I had forgotten how much I loved black and white photos.

Lots more coming in the comment too, so beware.

I really wish I had the means to shoot primarily in film. I really don't care much for digital at all, to be honest. And I love how much more connected I feel to the photos I take with film. I like the surprise of not knowing how they will come out, or if even at all. I like the quirks and leaks and grain. It all adds so much to the photo that you completely lose with digital. This old $25 film camera that I am using right now has, in my opinion, yielded far better, and far more rewarding results that my 400D has or possibly ever will

who doesn't love hooters eh...

Non Zoo...non baited...non raptor show... non bird park, and not stuffed........lol.

Granny's a Hoot,

In every kind of way.

She dyes her hair,

a different colour everyday.

Stripy socks and flowery dungarees,

She's quite the trendsetter

in a nest of retirees...
